Wow. I connected with this. The pledge of allegiance really is mandatory in many schools long before kids can grasp the concept. Once I did understand it I chose not to use it anymore. My family is Native American (Indigenous) and to me it represented a history of oppression. I faced a lot of crap from teachers, administrators, fellow students for denying participation. They really want you to indoctrinate yourself with it. It would make sense it is a tool to keep people under obedience.
