This way station is where readers mention a book or two they enjoyed (and why), and other members of the Genre Underground guide them to their next adventure. Bonus points if the recommended book is Indie.

I'll go first.

I loved The Mists of Avalon, an Arthurian Legend told from the perspective of Morgain, better known as Morgan le fay. I was captivated by the poignancy of a heroine forced to choose between her friendships and saving her dying religion.

Now, who will point the way to my next journey of words? (I have already read the prequels to Mists of Avalon.)

I just finished reading Anna Elliott's Trystan and Isolde trilogy starting with Twilight of Avalon, if you want to follow the Arthurian timeline further along and read a trilogy from the perspective of Isolde (In this series, daughter of Mordred and Gwynefar, raised by Morgan)

I also recommend Juliet Mariller's Seven Waters series, starting with Daughter of the Forest. It isn't Arthurian, but they are in a similar time period, and they follow different generations of women in the same family. Great, strong female characters, beautifully written, excellent plot.

Megan | 3 comments Dragon and the Unicorn (not sure what the entire series is called, but there are four or five) by A.A. Attanasio. I actually read this way before Mists of Avalon, and it's a combination of like, myth, magic and science. It's a really good series, very dark, very nuanced.
