paced reading horror and thrillers discussion
so how do you guys want to do this (group updates and suggestions thread)
Yea it should be 970x245 as it specified for the masthead (it's the same size of the one i made for my other group). Maybe something got screwed up when i uploaded it to photobucket.Yea i'll mess with it and get it to work.
Ok there you go. Sorry it took so long my battery died immediately after I typed that last message and I had to get out of bed and go downstairs to switch my battery.
I got it up there, but i think i need to remake it. It got resized when i uploaded it to photobucket and i didn't have the original so i just kinda quick fixed it for the time being and i'll redo it when i have some time.
Did you already fix it Matt? It looks good to me but I am on a phone so maybe that makes a difference. Since it will be updated with new books we read and is not permanent anyway I wouldn't worry to much about fixing it if you haven't.
When we have more members I will do some kind of logo contest. In the meantime does anyone have a suggestion for a group pic?

Let me know when you get a better look at it off a computer.
So I know on ki.dle u get a percentage of what u read. How does it work on nook? It only tells me what page im on.
just take what page you're on and divide it by the total page count and it should give you a percentage in decimal form (IE. .13 would be 13%)
Yea, i'll try and do a new one ever four months or so. So that the newer image will have mostly different books then the previous one.
it's a small update but I wanted to let everyone know I moved the 3 group read folders up to the top ( group read, novella read, and buddy reads). General its always first and I didn't need with anything else, I just wanted to make the group reads easier to find.
how do you all feel about a currently reading / upcoming reads folder for all our group reads in one spot and then when they hit 100% I will move them to the group read or novella read folder?
Yeah that sounds good. So we can finish up on the current reads and general discussion on the next month's read before we start. It would be easier having the threads near each other.
that's what I was thinking. I would probably change the group read folder to say group read archive, and the novella folder to say novella reads archive. I could also have a sticky thread in the new folder titled schedule with the start and finish dates of all our upcoming reads and when the polls start and everything and I could just lock it and update the schedule as we go.
well the final poll is two in favor, zero opposed, and 72 that don't care. I will set it up Sunday when the new books start. if people don't like it I can always change it back.
I didn't really do a poll, just mentioned it here to see if anyone was interested. no one objected so I am going for it, I figure it is easy to change back if people don't like it.
New masthead image to reflect the last five months of group reads (all the books since The Terror which was the last one on the previous masthead image).
I just realized that July was the one year anniversary of this group. we just completed or 12th novel group read. seems like we should do something but I don't know what. maybe I should put up a poll to see what everyone thinks the best book of the year was or something. any other ideas?
I didn't get around to my Sunday updates because I'm up camping and trying to keep the phone off. I will get them done tomorrow though.
For the people who havn't seen it in the group read threads we are discussing doing away with the novella group reads for a couple reasons. First off, none of the group reads are getting many votes because people are just choosing one or the other to do and secondly (and this is something I need to contact good reads about) when I have more than one poll going the polls for some reason don't show on the polls page or the home page. I would like to propose that we do something along the lines of every second or third month is a novella month where we take two winners like we do now but don't do a novel.
That works, i usually do just one because i have other things going on though i usually do the novel instead of the novellas. On a similar note, are we doing a novel for next month?
Yea, Black and Orange won with a whole two votes. I didn't vote for it but am joining in so we should have three people at least.
Hmm i don't remember there being a poll. Must've missed it. I asked because it wasn't in the list of polls on the polls page when i looked.
For some reason if there is more than one active poll none of them are visible. I need to contact goodreads about it. That's part of the reason for the talk of getting rid of novellas since both polls are up at the same time and the only way to see them is the link I post in the suggest thread. I only get that link by copy and pasting the url as soon as I Create the poll and I am still on the page for it.
After it ends it puts it in the polls page but it goes to the bottom. It is very glitchy. If you go look again just scroll all the way down, it is the third from the bottom for some reason. When I just have one poll going I can feature it on the home page and make it very visible to everyone.
I have debated sending broadcast messages when the polls go up but I usually send them for the suggestion thread and I don't want to flood anyone's inboxes. I don't really know what the best option is but I am open to suggestions.
Maybe we should kill the novella poll and allow every one to vote on the novel poll through Monday? And send out a broadcast that the poll is up. Then we can have more votes on the poll.
That is odd. Used to be able to see both novel and novella polls at the top. They must have done some tweaking that created that bug somehow.Another option if you want to keep doing a novella and novel is have the votes done separately instead of at the same time. Perhaps do the novel poll on the 3rd week of the month and novella poll on the 4th week. I'm also fine with doing something like alternating as well.
I have been pretty inactive for the most part on Goodreads due to being busy with getting situated after my move to where I am now, and I will likely be hitting the pause button on almost all reading here soon and definitely on all horror, as I will be participating in National Novel Writing Month in November, so I need to do some prep work for that, including reading some more sci-fi as that is what my story will likely fall under, with perhaps some horror elements to it, though I won't know until I am writing it.
I thought about making the polls on different days but it just makes it easier to do everything together and be able to remember everything I need to do. I still forget stuff (usually to add the books to the group shelf so they show as upcoming reads on top) the way it is now and that would just be that much more work. I considered asking for help moding the site, I'm sure someone out there would be interested but in the end no one so far seems like they are to upset about the idea to get rid of novella reads and I know the main group read will have more members if the few active people here are no longer just picking one of the three to join. I think the best move for the group is getting rid of them and waiting to bring them back until we have more active members. It seems like people are joining the group everyday but none of the new people ever participate.
I would love to talk alcohol with you addy, maybe make a thread in the off topic folder? We have one of those right?
That sounds good, whenever i can participate in that i will be sure to do so. Though i'd probably just participate in the beer months.
I think the Off Topic would be more appropriate for something like that. Since the group is about reading and stuff. Also we could use more topics in that section anyways.
Addy wrote: "But I don't see it"You will when someone posts in that section. If not at the bottom of the discussions on the main page should be a link to "More Discussions" and you'll find the section in the list. When a section isn't posted in for a while it doesn't show on the main page till someone posts in it.
Here you go addy, I made a thread for it. If you want to set up something where we try something different once a month and talk about it I am all for it.
