Welcome back, Rincewind and Luggage!

Let the games begin...

Michael Clemens (mpclemens) Started reading last night. Pratchett has obviously mastered inventing a time machines because when I took a break, it was suddenly two hours later and I hadn't noticed the gap. Amazing!

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 510 comments Bit of an underlying message here, with this one.

I think there's a little more of the man himself emerging.

Any views on this one yet?

Hazel | 309 comments I like this one, I can't help feeling it's a bit of a cautionary tale over living vicariously through your children :D

Wrestled the Nook out of my kid's hands (okay, waited until he fell asleep) and finished at last. I liked this one. Though I think maybe Coin should have left the Patrician as a lizard. I'm pretty sure I would have.

Maybe a cautionary tale about living through our children. Definitely a cautionary tale about lust for power.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 510 comments I'd go with the old saying about power corrupting...

This is my least favorite adventure so far.
I didn't like any of the new characters, though it was nice spending time with Rincewind and the Luggage again.

Love that picture of Pratchett!

Perhaps I'd better clarify, before anyone else gets offended by my remarks and leaves the group, that although this was my least favorite book so far - that does not mean I did not enjoy quite a bit of it!

I thought this description of the Patrician was absolutely priceless!

Just by looking at him you could tell he was the sort of man you'd expect to keep a white cat, and caress it idly while sentencing people to death in a piranha tank; and you'd hazard for good measure that he probably collected rare thin porcelain, turning it over and over in his blue-white fingers while distant screams echoed from the depths of the dungeons. You wouldn't put it past him to use the word "exquisite" and have thin lips. He looked like the kind of person who, when they blink, you mark it off on the calendar.

That perfectly descibes our former Vice-Voldemort, Dick Cheney, though I picture him stroking an iguana instead of a white cat. (He doesn't seem like the type of person who would enjoy touching anything soft.)

Carol (mansonville) Just finished this one tonight, and am a bit behind. Sourcery was great, crazy fun. Really enjoyed it, though I'm a little concerned about the fate of Rincewind. Will he be returning - even just for his hat?
