It was pretty smart of Nora to create Remember When as that one book seems to have been responsible for bringing new readers to either Nora or J. D. Robb.

It really has...I'd say the lady is very smart! I can't think of a move she's made that wasn't spot on starting with sitting down and writing that first book! :)

message 53: by Teri (new)

Teri Woolley I was an Audible member and had a lot of points to spend. I read through the description of the JDR books and thought they sounded interesting so I bought them. And they sat there for about 3 years. My Mom was gathering her read books to donate to the library and she gave me some of the later books in the series but still I didn't read them. Then, a few months back, I reopened my Audible account and saw that I had the JDR books. I started listening and the rest is history.

Wow! That's pretty incredible to have stumbled on the series this way.

message 56: by Joc (new)

Joc (jocc) I was in the library and looking for something new. I started with Born in Death. I really liked the characters and realized I wanted to go back and read from the beginning and have mostly read them in order. I was hooked after Naked in Death.

These books are addictive, Joc! But yes, definitely read in order. So many characters introduced along the way and such relationship development!

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Born in Death would be a HILARIOUS place to start! The birthing class at the beginning? *snorts*

message 59: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I used to go to this wonderful used bookstore. One of the ladies that worked there (sadly she died in a plane crash years ago, sniff!) used to highlight different books by putting them on the endcaps with little personal notes. I asked her about this IN DEATH book. She gave me the first one and I've NEVER looked back.

Thanks Linda!

What a touching story...It's always interesting to hear the different ways we all discovered this series.

It is. You'll never forget your start.

message 62: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) What is really fun is the serendipitous starts you get. I don't know if I would've ever have started the series left to my own devices.

Same here, Kirsten. As it turned out, after I started the series, I discovered the paperback of Naked in Death on my kitchen bookshelf...it apparently had been sitting there for at least ten years! It had been given to me by an acquaintance and I'd shelved it.

Wow. Amazing that it took you so long to read it. I don't think I could buy a book and not read it immediately. Even if it is a gift or a treasure found at a garage sale or used book store.

Joc (jocc) Sara ♥ wrote: "Born in Death would be a HILARIOUS place to start! The birthing class at the beginning? *snorts*"

Exactly Sara. I just couldn't wait to read more. I love Eve's discomfort with children and how she never gets phrases correct. Hard to find good mysteries with humor and heart.

I didn't know the person who gave it to me that well and she didn't tell me anything about the book. She categorized it as romance and I didn't start reading that until four years ago. I simply forgot about it and didn't have time to research. I belonged to a book club that I led and had more to read than I could handle. My house is FULL of books and I own hundreds of eBooks as well.

I guess you are a voracious reader. I know what you mean about it being categorized as romance. I don't think of this series as romance but I guess with the hot and heavy scenes with Roarke(sigh - I wish)they market it that way. I don't usually read pure romance. I am always looking for humorous suspense like Janet Evanovich (Author) but have grown tired of that series for now. I will probably go back eventually. I like some really dark stuff too like Sharp Objects.

I think you and I are in the minority in not considering this series romance:) Though I read the genre now, I didn't back then. Many years ago the stories were just not my cup of tea but there are so many really good writers in the genre now I've gotten stuck here! Mysteries, though, will still be my first love.

message 69: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Romance is not what I think of first when I think of the In Death series. I actually think of the mystery and even humor elements. Of course, I love Roarke & Eve but their romance/sexual scenes are very mild compared to most books classed romance in today's market. Erotic Romance has exploded on the market and kicked the definition of Romance off the charts. I love Roarke & Eve for the relationship and the whirlwind of emotions they always feel when dealing with each other.

message 70: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15059 comments Mod
Mystery with romantic elements is how I'd refer to it:)

message 71: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Yes, I agree. I will say the relationships are a major draw for me...even including the secondary characters.

message 72: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I love the thriller and mystery aspects. When I first started reading it was for the romance, but later it was like getting a letter from a dear, dear friend. I look forward to these books for the thrill, yes. But also getting back in touch with my friends. All the advancement of all the characters.

The different characters are always evolving. Roarke and Eve are always treading new ground in their marriage and learning how not to destroy this relationship. All the other characters are always changing too. Characters that were trivial when they were introduced now have families and lives.

It's wonderful. I have a sense of homecoming when I get a new "In Death".

PS - My favorite scenes are when Roarke is thinking about how he feels about Eve and how vulnerable she makes him.

PPS - Also the humor!

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Susan Ericksen is AMAZING!!!

message 79: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I know, right? I've never had such a good experience with a narrator before. The only one that comes close is James Marsters for the Dresden Files books.

I don't know what I'd do if they had to change narrators. She puts so much drama in it and does all the accents and voices so well!

Yes - Susan Ericksen is a perfect narrator. She sealed the deal for me with listening to audios. Before listening to her, I really didn't care much for audios.

Karma Queen (karmaqueen) | 260 comments I discovered Naked in Death as a gr recommendation. I had just joined and it popped up based on read books I added to my shelves. I got a copy from the library and I was hooked.

message 84: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I absolutely love Susan doing this series. If you at all into classics, she does an even better job with Jane Eyre. I got it for a couple bucks through Whispersync.

message 85: by Brittany (new)

Brittany I was informed of the series by some online friends who also read the Plum books like I do. I picked up Naked In Death and the rest is history.

message 86: by Rosa Hope (new)

Rosa Hope (rosahope) | 28 comments My husband was the person to get me into this series. I had never tried a mystery book, that's how our local library shelves these books, and I was tired of the same old formula for romance novels. I started at the very beginning and I was absolutely in love before I even finished. And yes, I always take his advice on books now. Lol

That is SO unusual. I don't blame you for following his advice going forward.

message 89: by Paula (new)

Paula | 245 comments I discovered this series through the postings on this goodreads. Sandra and Jonetta gave exciting feedback about these books I just had to try one. In fact I only purchased the first book thinking I may not like it. Before even finishing the first book, I was so hooked that I visited by barnes and noble and amazon quite soon. I love these books. They are different from what I am used to with combination romance and mystery genre combined. I do take a break after every third or so book or else the books tend to blend into one another for me if I don't. I am about to start the fifth one now and am in for the long haul. CIAO

Yes, we do! Love having more fans of the series to discuss these books with!

Rosa - I'm amazed you got hooked on reading them by your husband! Glad you listened to him!

Paula - I did the same thing you are...took a break every few books & then came back. It really helped keep in fresh and kept me anticipating more Roarke & Eve!

I bought that copy just BECAUSE she narrated it.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I was looking for an audio at the library. The work I did at the time was pretty boring. I thought if I could listen to a book, it would make the time go faster. I think I picked up either Glory or Immortal. After that I was hooked. I couldn't wait to read the series.

message 96: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct | 153 comments For some reason this book was really hard to find....however, I got this for the Anita Blake short and discovered Eve and RoarkOut of this World, so I had to go back and start from the beginning and at the time even though I read Nora's books had no idea it was her writing them.
