I loved both of them but, if I really had to choose one... I would pick If I Stay. It just left you on the edge on your seat.

I love both.

where she went by far, it gave a ton of emotion causing you to feel Adam's pain and be able to connect with him in ways you couldn't with Mia. with that being said i still liked If i stay but just not as much as where she went.

For me Where She Went was my favorite, without a doubt.

Where she went

if i stay is way better. it had more emotion and i dont really care that much about her boyfriend.

Both were amazing in my opinion but on which one had the most impact on me, it would be If I Stay. I connected with both Adam and Mia so I guess I don't agree with everyone on that point. Both books had a different appeals to them. If I Stay was more about just Mia, while Where She Went was about them coming back together. Adam's POV was very interesting too! But yeah, you should stick it out and finish Where She Went.

I loved them both for different reasons. I understand how people enjoyed If I Stay better because there is more action/plot.

Loved them both, but Where She Went maybe edges If I Stay by a very slight margin, very slight!

WHERE SHE WENT IS WAY BETTER

I totally think where she went is a lot better. I really like If I stay, but the second book seriously made me cry, I suffered more, was happy more and I could connect with the fellings in the book, in a total different way that in If I stay. Adam's perspective change the total vision of the book. And i absolutely LOVE IT!

Definitely Where she went. Found myself skimming through some of If I stay.

IF I STAY was much better!!!!

I truly enjoyed both novels. However, there was a vast difference in the emotion each one left me with. I remember when I read If I Stay, I put the book down and sat for a very long time just thinking about everything I had just read and how that changed the way I saw life basically. It was an incredibly deep and life-changing novel, to say the least. Where She Went, I was incredibly excited to hear about it. Although I felt like leaving the story with the first novel was enough, I still yearned to find out what had become of Mia since she had ultimately decided to stay. I was immensely disappointed not to see things from Mia's point of view, because it was her her decision to stay, not Adam's. And while evidently the choice would affect both partners deeply, I just wanted to see how Mia's was coping with everything. I enjoyed it, but it did not have the same existential aspect the former novel did.

Aileen I totally agree! Where She Went was more lighthearted and less emotional and deep. If I Stay sort of had more layers of story to think about, I guess.

Where she Went
Not that If I stay was bad or anything; they were both really interesting. It was just that Where She Went was more interesting and emotional for me.

I loved both books, but If I Stay is definitely more heartfelt and emotional. I literally cried throughout all of If I Stay. That being said, I am a sucker for romance, so I loved Where She Went, too. Both are incredible books that shouldn't be compared. They do go together.

Where she went is my favorite

I love both books but I think Where She Went was more heartbreaking than If I Stay. We haven't really gotten a lot of glimpse of Adam in If I Stay, and I think the sequel was written to justify that. You could really feel his emotions and the pain and everything that goes along with it, but the ending was really nice. :)

Where She Went. I can connect to that book really well from experiences I've had in my own life. If I Stay was amazing but also depressing and heart wrenching.

I got my heartbreak in If I Stay but still I really love the book.

Between the two, i'd choose "If I stay". The love the way it cliff hang on the end, add that to way Gayle Forman wrote Mia's choice on a subtle way. It makes you wonder what her choice really is. Most of all, i love the way this book measures life- gave me a lot to think about.

I liked If I Stay, but I loved Where She Went.

Firstly, Where She Went has an unfair advantage because I read If I Stay after watching and falling in love with the movie trailer. I was expecting it to be longer and more heart wrenching than it turned out to be.

I also got really annoyed with If I Stay because Mia could hardly say anything in the present without going into some backflash, when all I wanted was to get on with the story.

Where She Went pulled at my heartstrings, making me scream for answers and for Adam. I just didn't have that same reaction with If I Stay. Plus, Where She Went had more action, I guess.

If I Stay was much better! I don't know why but the second book was totally not what I expected when I bought it... Maybe I had too high expectations?

I would have to say that this book, though still not a masterpiece is certainly much better written than "If I Stay" which was very immaturely written - it definitely read like a first novel. I found Forman wrote her characters as a cheesy, goofy, cliche who were incapable of forming in depth thoughts or perspectives. I found myself detached from her characters and almost exasperated by their nonsensical actions and thoughts. I found certain scenes especially the chaos Adam caused at the hospital to be unrealistic, cheesy and just plain inappropriate - even as I was reading it I was begging the author not to go there for her own sake. If she wanted to write such a heart-breaking novel then why make the characters actions so whimsical? All in all the novel was just a cringe-worthy attempt at a dark, almost Gothic mystery that a woman of her age should've known would come across as cringe-worthy and false. However "where she went" was mostly marked so high by myself purely because the author had taken such drastic steps to improve her writing and the maturity level of her novel by dulling down the over-dramatics and giving her characters real life situations to work with, a triumph on her part that will serve her well to continue. Also another comment on the author herself is that she, for some reason despite being female, writes far better from a male perspective and should really stick with male characters. Her characters matured, their problems matured, their memories matured and indeed their perspectives and thoughts too. Although there is still many scenes that are simply too dramatic the cringe-factor is invoked once more. The dramatic love making scene that could only ever be witnessed in a Katherine Heigl movie (sorry to say kids it doesn't work that way) was almost repelling - a rusty nail stuck in the middle of a story which up to that point had ran smoothly. Which again added an whimsical sense to the novel. However due to the dramatic maturity in writing, though she's still not there yet, I will stand by my three stars granted to Gayle Forman and hope she continues to alter her writing until it's at the standard I feel it really could be. Definitely a novel better than it's predecessor!

I enjoyed both books, they were both good in their own perspective but if I had to choose from those to books I would prefer If I Stay more than Where She Went!

I agree with the original poster! I had a hard time getting through the beginning 1/3rd of Where She Went. All the self-pity! Once the pieces started falling into place though, a great book. Even though they're a series, they're hard to compare - Mia's perfect life & Adam's distress.

I liked both -- but I prefer If I Stay. I loved the outcome of both books...and I hope they make it into a film -- because it would be awesome to see the characters evolve into the next story line.

i liked If I Stay. But I definitrly love Where She Went. It really touched my heart. Adam is very... I dont find a word. But really. I love his character.

if i stay has more emotion and where she went just sickened me til the very end

I think if I stay was more interesting and more fast paced. I liked it a lot better.

Where She Went is far better

if i Stay. If i stay put the family first, it's not another love story. But Where She Went it's more like carried stereotypes.
*But i like both*

They're very different. I found Where She Went much more mature. If I Stay could be a bit melodramatic, and was definitely caught up in the YA conceit that whoever you date when you're 16 is obviously your one true love and soulmate. Where She Went takes place when Adam and Mia are older and more mature, and it also looks at the consequences of their relationship in a way that most YA novels don't consider. Where She Went goes to some very dark places. And there's something lovely and fascinating about two people simply wandering around New York City all night trying to explain why they keep hurting each other. If I Stay is fairly on par for course for YA. Where She Went is unexpected in the best way possible.
Of course, the message of Where She Went is that Mia and Adam are soul mates, or at least need each other for mental health stability more than they need to be apart. If I Stay seemed like a typical teen romance. Where She Went convinced me this was different.

Where She Went was better!

Where she went

Where She Went

If I stay

I think Where She Went was the better book. I enjoyed If I Stay but when I reread it, I realized I only really liked all of the supporting characters, especially Adam. I absolutely loved Adam and having a WHOLE book from his perspective was amazing. I hope Gayle Forman writes another book strictly on just Adam's character, without any influence by Mia.
- no hate to If I Stay though (:

If I Stay

I got bored with If I stay. I thought it was predictable and the story didn't affect me that much. I didn't relate to Mia or Adam and I guess I only liked Kim. Reading Where she went was much more enjoyable. The beginning was kinda off but it got much better after understanding where Adam came from. Mia was cruel but I guess since her life was wrecked in a moment she is allowed to. Adam was pitiful in the beginning but I could relate to him much more with the development of the story. I honestly didn't like the fact that she still hears her family! It was better with just the surreal feeling and memories..

where she went is better

Where She Went was more realistic than If I Stay. It handled some real issues in a very accessible way. If I Stay was almost a magical realism sort of book, and I thought it was wonderful, but Where She Went doesn't operate under any of those supernatural conventions and is stronger for it.

If I stay was 10 times better than Where She Went. I was sort of grateful that there was no #3, so I won't be tempted to make the decision to plod through another. I feel guilty saying this, as I'm reading so many comments from women who loved the books. It's probably only that it's too YA for me - I'm just to peri-menapausal for this much romance. Haha. OK. Post-menapausal.

i enjoyed both If I Stay and Where She Went. although i'm a male, i can relate alot to Mia. i was in vehicle accident not long ago, im also a first responder. I believe that If I Stay and Where She Went, cannot be better without eachother. one is simply not better than the other, they are both very well written, and I at this time think that the two books cannot be (one be better than the other)...

I really liked 'If I stay' but 'Where she went' was better in my opinion. But if I were you I would read both

J loved both books, however, If I Stay was better.

I thought it was really great, the point of view of Adam was really interesting. In fact, I could say that I would really like to see this book in a movie as well.

If I Stay was far superior. Mia was faced with an agonizing choice, literally life or death. I understand that Adam experienced pain and that's why he acted out the way he did but honestly, I only read Where She Went to find out what happened to Mia. After the first few pages, I didn't care what happened to Adam at all. He was a jerk.
