ABANDONED. Atomic power and atomic weapons - kids book

There was a library book I read as a kid in the late 70's - a non fiction, illustrated picture book giving the history of atomic power and atomic weapons. Part of the story was presented as comic strips - that's the main detail I remember, although what also stands out in my mind was the strange ambivalent tone of the book - natural I suppose given the subject matter.
