Does anybody else also think that the author tried to raise bigger questions of power, corruption, morals in this third book whereas the first one was more of a thriller but somehow didnt manage it right? I think she tried to balance this loftier questions with violent deaths, gory details, too much sadness and ended up with a disappointing volient book instead of leaving the reader with a thought provoking but entertaining read.

Yeah. The first book was a thriller, and I thought the other books were going to continue that, not get all moral and violent. Showing the brutality of war and all that- what happened to the survival story it started out with? We all know that war has to be violent, and yeah I guess there was no other way to end it apart from having a war, still I think the story just changes to much. Katniss's friends start to hate her and her life goes to hell. The worst part is probably because her life never get's back on track, she goes to hell and keeps sitting in it.

Mockingjay was about War and War isn't pretty. What does War have senseless violent death, gory and horriable things happening to people and sadness. The Hunger Games series was never going to be a fairy tale.
