what the hell is that red thing on the cover?

I thought it was a seashell (the background is sand coloured on the version I have) but it could be a leaf.

Could be some kind of flower I suppose. It looks like a little bit of a stem showing at the bottom. The copy I read had a picture of a girl on the cover. I couldn't get a really good look at the picture on the copy shown above.

I used to think it was like a zombies rotting and blood soaked flesh. But then I looked closer and it looks like a red leaf. It's totally a leaf. However, I read the copy with the girl on the cover, so I don't exactly have the best view.

Do you know that zombie in the book? Gabrielle....the fast one??? Maybe this thing on the cover is a bit of her coat's fabric, I don't know, she was fast, indeed...and her clothes may have been torn? I mean....every zombie has a dirty and torn aspect...
