I use "Holy Crackers" and get virtually the same reaction.

This conversation is reminding me of Wallace and Gromet... also, I'm hungry.

This isn't really a tip or trick, more a random thought that is equally likely to be useless as helpful, but here we go:

Write without stuff you normally use a lot of. Like, if you normally have fantastic descriptions of scenes or what people look like, write about a blind character. It'll strengthen your ability to write using your other senses... or something.

Erie Morgan (amadeusfan27) | 31 comments i read a book, or listen to music, classical music to get my mind flowing, and then if some-thing comes to me then i write it out

Ooh, I know what you mean about the music. When I'm trying to develop a character or a character relationship I go through my iPod trying to find a song that reminds me of them. It's really helpful and also quite fun. :3

And yeah I agree, classical music just has that inspirational feel to it. Especially piano pieces.

Absolutely! I listen to music all the time when I write... it helps get me through a lot of writer's block (like, a LOT of writer's block XD).
What songs do you think match your characters?

Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" for Luna and Max (who is a different, little more complex version of the Max I rp) in this book I've been working on for a bazillion years.

"Blinding" by Florence + the Machine for Genevieve Everest, who used to follow me around in my dreams before they became... Em right moving onnnn...

"Cold" by Aqualung & Lucy Schwartz for Raziel and Ella, original charries in a Supernatural fic I'm writing.

And "No Light, No Light" by Florence for Willow and Clement, who you may remember from that story from the romance writing contest.

Those are my favorite song matches. :3 Do you have any, dearie?

Oh, my God. I love Florence. Never heard of the other songs, though...

FLORENCE IS SO FRIGGIN AMAZING I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO CAN. :D O_O

"Moonlight Sonata" is my favorite piano piece of all time. And no one plays it better than Claudio Arrau: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMGDlh...

"Cold" is just gorgeous. And it fits so well with my story I just wanna cry when I listen to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7Z2A...

message 67: by Jocelyn (new)

Jocelyn (joc113) | 265 comments "Howl" by Florence always reminds me of the Eon and Eona books.

"Clarity" by Zedd reminds me of The Mortal Instruments. Also "Chasing The Sun" by Sara Bareilles.

There are several others, but I can't think of them right now.

R E A D!

Read as much as you can. The more you read, the more words and writing styles your mind will subconsciously pick up. That is the best advice I can possibly give you. ;3

I try to stay away from self-doubt. When you're trying to get past it, try to enter a different zone of thinking. Tell yourself, I'm writing for me. This is my writing. Even if you know other people will be reading it. Try to forget about what they'd think when you write. Once you can get past it, it's so much easier and enjoyable to write.

Rachel Polen | 115 comments What I need to do is stay away from reviews here as well. It makes me doubt myself every darn time.

Exactly. It helps a lot.

Debaparna | 19 comments And about self doubt... My aid is the thought: well, it's going to be crap anyway, and people are going to hate it anyway, so let's see just how much they hate it!

Rita Fedrick | 11 comments No one has reported in a year, on this chat...so you guys have had quite a while too think of some tips for me. First time writer. My book is called unconditional love, love story with a taste of mystery, action. I want it too be a series. What I see is the fill in scene. I read one lady author said conflict conflict...what do you guys think

message 76: by Renee (new)

Renee Cronin (reneecronin) | 1 comments Some helpful tips, hopefully....

1. Just start writing. About anything that pops in your head. Get your brain going. If you're having a hard time starting.
2. Make sure you have an atmosphere that is comfortable for you. No distractions, i.e., t.v., radio - unless these things help.
3. Have at least a topic in mind, but allow the story to take its own direction. Don't force it.
4. When you're feeling stuck, keep writing about anything. It may take you back to where you need. Once you stop it's harder to pick back up.
