Fester McHaggis (FesterMcHaggis75) What book or series do you consider to be the best staring point?

Becky (audthryth) | 33 comments That's a really hard question to answer. It partly depends on what genre you like. If you're really not sure, I'd try the previous months' selections.

Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels is a good, NOT TOO romancey Urban Fantasy series! GOod first step.

Fester McHaggis (FesterMcHaggis75) Felicia, I'd just like to point out real quick that I idolize you.

message 5: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) I started out with Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson Moon Called.

Although before that I was a fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Not all of the books have the same protagonist, but he has a few with witches running the show and they're hilarious, but not romantic at all. The first of the witches storyline starts with Equal Rites.

KandiH Anything by Sherilyn Kenyon. They can be read in any order, and they seem to appeal as much to men as women.

message 7: by Fester (new)

Fester McHaggis (FesterMcHaggis75) I;m already a huge Laurell K. Hamilton fan.

message 8: by KandiH (new)

KandiH Kenyon is more of a "one on one" kinda writer. And you don't need a chart and highlighter to keep track of the characters. :-) and I missed an "r" ... Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Amber Dawn (ginger_bug) | 147 comments If you're more into sci fi I'd start with Anne Aguirre's Grimspace. I have been reading non-romance sci fi for years and I devoured it.

message 10: by Casey (new)

Casey E | 2 comments My gateway was Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. Only drawback is that I have not yet come across another series of UF even remotely comparable in wit.
