Mark | 5 comments D.L. I'll second that -- Wattpad has definitely attracted my attention as of late. I'm http://www.wattpad.com/user/markjeffrey and have several sample chapters and one full free novel up there.

Hazel West | 52 comments Well, I'll definitely be getting an account =) I'll look you guys up when I do as well.

James Calbraith (jcalbraith) | 27 comments Oh, we're sharing wattpad accounts now? :) Here's mine - http://www.wattpad.com/user/JamesCalb... - I'm posting there short excerpts that didn't make the cut to my steampunk novels.

message 104: by Hazel (new)

Hazel West | 52 comments Okay, everyone, I started a Wattpad account here: http://www.wattpad.com/user/hazelwest

I just posted an excerpt of my steampunk WIP if you'd like to read it. I'll fan all of you who put your links up here =)

message 105: by Hazel (new)

Hazel West | 52 comments Thanks for fanning =) Yeah, it will be a while before I get to really explore and read stuff there too. I've got a virtual book tour for my new book coming up and with preparations for that I'm writing and researching for two books and trying to get a job at the library.

C.K. Garner (ckgarner) | 2 comments Hello Tami, Ladies, Gentlemen. You might visit The Steampunk Empire for all things Steam related. I am responsible for inventing a social circle there, Just a Bit of Arsenic, where I post as The Widow Kate Next. The humor is dark; just a warning. Also the Cog of Acceptance is a nice jumping off place. I am also the author of a steampunk novella, Stealing Time, available for only $0.99 cents if you are interested. Best of luck to you, and I hope this info. helps!
Cheers! C.K. Garner

James Calbraith (jcalbraith) | 27 comments By the way, the first volume of my steampunkish saga "The Year of the Dragon" - The Shadow of Black Wings - is now on a giveaway: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...

message 108: by C.A. Wilke (new)

C.A. Wilke | 5 comments Yes, but I've only had one short published in an anthology. Mine is kind of an alternative-history/magic action story set in Nazi Germany as part of the Twisted History
anthology.

Craig Hallam (craighallam) | 66 comments Hi everyone. Does anyone use Scrivener? I've been told that it's really useful and wondered what you guys thought?

message 110: by C.A. Wilke (new)

C.A. Wilke | 5 comments Craig, I've played with it a bit. It has some great features. The storyboarding and chapter system are really great for writers.
Just a note, I don't use it because I like to keep my writings portable. GoogleDocs/Drive is good for me. Though, you could use Drive or Dropbox or something like that if you are only going between actual computers. I just like to have mine accessible via tablet as well.

message 111: by Craig (new)

Craig Hallam (craighallam) | 66 comments Thanks for the info, Chris. I'll have to take a look at a demo and see how it goes, I think :D

Hazel West | 52 comments Okay, so this isn't steampunk related actually, but if anyone here likes historical medieval fiction my new novel On a Foreign Field: A Story of Loyalty and Brotherhood is on a blog tour right now. And even if that's not your thing, stop by to read the guest posts and interviews! I've got giveaways too for the book and also for a $25 Amazon giftcard. I'm also planning a free ebook day too =)

You can find the link itinerary here on my blog: http://hazelwest.blogspot.com/2012/08...

Jade Kennedy | 3 comments Hi everyone, I have just joined the group and saw this discussion and wanted to ask has anyone heard of Steampunk Poetry? It's something that I have been playing around with and I don't know if it exists already or if I have created a new genre?! (I'm hoping) It would be great to get some of your ideas on the subject, below is a little excerpt of what I have been writing (I hope it IS classified as Steampunk after all this! lol)

'His skin was turning a darker shade of iron,
his irises widening,
forming numerals
on the white face of a glass pocket watch'

message 114: by Hazel (new)

Hazel West | 52 comments I love the idea of steampunk poetry! I have never seen anyone write it before, but that makes it all the more original =)

Thanks Hazel, I'm really glad that you like it. I thought it was very unique as well. I do a feature on my blog where on the first of the month I feature a brand new poem, it's called 'New Poem of the Month for ...' and tomorrow I'm showcasing my new steampunk poem 'My Clockwork Heart' - I hope you will check it out and tell me what you think :)

message 120: by Saba (new)

Saba Razvi | 4 comments I'm a writer, but haven't done any steampunk yet. I love reading it, though!

message 121: by Craig (new)

Craig Hallam (craighallam) | 66 comments It won't take long, Saba. You'll be as deep into it as the rest of us soon ;)

message 122: by Hazel (new)

Hazel West | 52 comments Definitely! Can't wait to see what ideas you add to the pot, Saba =)

Unfortunately, I'm a little stuck on my steampunk novel right now. It's a mystery and my villain is giving me problems and since he's kind of the most important part of the plot, well... But I'm working on a historical Roman novel right now and I'm aiming for my steampunk one to be out by next spring. =)

message 123: by Chris (new)

Chris Dolley | 3 comments I'm a writer too (waves to Raven who I met at P-Con in Dublin). I have a steampunk series - the Reeves & Worcester Steampunk Mysteries - a series of fun novelettes and novellas, the first of which (What Ho, Automaton!) is a finalist for the WSFA Small Press award this year.

The third story, Reggiecide, will be coming out soon and I'm working on the fourth story, The Aunt Paradox.

I forgot to come in and mention that Greaveburn is now very much alive! From all major online retailers and Reader's. I hope you get chance to take a look. I'd love to know what you all think :)

Hazel West | 52 comments Hey, I was wondering if anyone else is going to do NaNoWriMo this year? I entered with my steampunk novel "Anthony Maxwell: A Case of Poisons" my username is 'theartfulscribbler' if you're signed in and want to look my profile up. Let me know if you're doing it.

They're all available on my author page: Michael Coorlim

Hazel, I'm in Nano writing a sequel to my Dodge book, as SophroniaBelleL . I added you as a buddy. Hope that was ok. :-) 39946 so far. Nano Nano!

message 134: by Hazel (new)

Hazel West | 52 comments @Mary cool thanks =) I've really fallen behind because I'm writing too books at once, but I just finished my other one last night, so I'll be able to spend more time with my NaNo project now

Lisa Degerstrom (ledegerstrom) | 3 comments I currently have a steampunk-ish novel self-published on Amazon titled, The Soul Schematic.

The Soul Schematic

You can also download it for free here on Goodreads:

PDF Version

In a nutshell it's about a girl who creates a mechanical man--who escapes her lab--hijinks ensue... I am starting to outline the sequel, The Time Tinkerer.

message 137: by Mellie (new)

Mellie (mellie42) I have a novel coming out early next year with Curiosity Quills, it's called NEFERTITI'S HEART.
I call it "steampunk-lite" lol
It's about a woman who tangles with a serial killer while trying to find an ancient artifact.

message 138: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley | 18 comments That sounds cool, A.W.! Keep us posted!

message 139: by Buffy (new)

Buffy (buffybarber) I'm writing a steampunk novel. My working title is Lost City and it turns out that it's more clockwork than steam. I'm working on Draft 5 and once I finish it, I'll send it off to a competition. The competition closes Dec 31st, so I need to get into gear. I'm almost there! I won't know the results of the competition until March, so we'll see what happens.

It's about a woman who goes in search of Atlantis in order to get accepted into an archaeological society.

message 140: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley | 18 comments Hope you make your deadline, Buffy! Clockwork is a challenge. I am thinking about writing about the Tower of Babel and after, with a clockwork emphasis.

message 141: by Buffy (new)

Buffy (buffybarber) Thanks, Mary! I'm doing my best. This is my first attempt at writing a novel and I feel like it could do with at least one more draft, but I guess there's a point where you have to just let it go. I've been working on it for 2 years now, so I guess it's about time. It's really difficult to do.

Your idea sounds really interesting. Would it take place in the Victorian era or would you set it in ancient times? (I love the idea of clockwork in biblical times.)

message 142: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley | 18 comments Ancient times, right after Babel. I've been writing for 30 years or more and publishing about 4, and it's true, at some point you just have to kick the baby bird out of the nest and let her try her wings. She's probably in better shape than you think. :-)

message 143: by Buffy (new)

Buffy (buffybarber) Wow, 30 years. You're a veteran! Very impressive. I'm interested to read what happens in your story.

Thanks for the encouraging words! I've definitely learned a lot from writing this novel that I'll be able to apply to the next one. Whatever people think of it, I've definitely enjoyed the journey. :D

message 144: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley | 18 comments :-) We are finally seeing regular daily sales, and finding networks of author friends willing to cross-promote is vital. :-) Just published hubby's nano project yesterday and already had a sale!

message 145: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherhiestand) | 10 comments I've released 4 steampunk novellas and one of them is free this weekend, though Monday on Amazon.

Captain Gravenor's Airship Equinox, FREE on Amazon Dec 8-10. Clean steampunk romance

http://www.amazon.com/Captain-Graveno...

Tinkerer extraordinaire Philadelphia Hardcastle is horrified to learn her late brother sold her animal management inventions to the British Air Enforcement for nefarious purposes. Distraught, she feels suicide is the only way to pay for her deadly mistakes.

When Brecon Gravenor, a smuggler and airship builder, saves a woman teetering at the edge of a cliff, he discovers he has rescued the infamous and reclusive Dr. Castle. They are imprisoned by the Red Kite free traders in Wales, who want her human containment devices.

Philadelphia is willing to give the free traders the secrets of her inventions if it helps liberate enslaved men, but she’s a lady used to independence. Brecon has no intention of helping her escape. Especially when he realizes she has a price on her head and he’s the only one who can save her.

Captain Gravenor’s Airship Equinox is a 33,000-word steampunk adventure.

N.R. Grabe (nrgrabe) | 8 comments I've been reading speculative fantasy most of my life and that crosses into steampunk, though it is retrograde in some circumstances like Verne and Wells.

I also wrote this:
Slave To Marshmallows: A Steampunk Fairy Tale

It's a fairy tale, though I am not sure who the audience of it should be. It's free on Kindle right now, so let me know. :)

Daniel Ottalini (dottalini) | 8 comments Hi all, if you enjoy steampunk that doesn't fit the exact 'Victorian England' mold, then I've got a story for you. My novel, Brass Legionnaire, is essentially Roman Steampunk with a dash of alternate history thrown into the mix. There's a signed paperback copy free here on Goodreads, and you can also get the ebook for Kindle, Nook, iPad and others.

(And if you don't win the paperback, you can put it on your wish list for the holidays as they are on sale too!)

It's also probably the most exciting story I've ever written in my life. I guess that's what happens when you think up the idea for it at 3 in the morning!

Here's the amazon and book webpage links.

By the way, the novel is also an eBook Award national finalist (top three in the nation!) in the Action/Adventure Category.

Mary Findley | 18 comments Daniel, that sounds like a really cool idea. I am getting so interested in all the Steampunk possibilities.
