Thanks, Dawn. Christopher Columbus wasn't part of this book. I've read a lot of Card's work, but not this one. I'll have to check it out.
And thanks, Jen2n. It's not Many Waters. I love Madeline L'Engle! The book I'm trying to remember is for adult readers.

That could be. Did Card publish it as a novella? I'll have to request it at the library to investigate this.
Well, I finally got around to reading Pastwatch by Orson Scott Card, and sure enough, there was a summary of the story I read about the deluge of the Red Sea. I looked at the copyright page, and there it was -- a novella called Atlantis. It's in the anthology Keeper of Dreams.
Thanks, Dawn!

The book is set in pre-history times, I think in the Middle East. It's an arid area, and is the area that will soon be inundated when an isthmus is destroyed, unleashing a massive flood that becomes the Red Sea, I think. I have a vivid memory of the main character seeing this isthmus being eroded, and trying to warn people far away of the impending flood. There may have been a science fiction aspect to this. It's all very hazy.
