Lisa how did you feel about the ending?

Angela Simmons I loved the book...however, I wanted to know what happened after they found each other.

Did anyone else realize who Iain was early on?

Melody I liked Iain from the start but I was easily tricked into thinking Geoff was the one. I loved the ending. I actually re-read the whole book immediately after I finished so I could pick up on the subtle clues that I missed the first time. I love Susanna Kearsley books, although they have been hard to find.

Melody I loved The Shadowy Horses, The Rose Garden and the Winter Sea. I didn't like the way Season of Storms ended.

Mary H Great story ! I did like The Rose Garden and Winter Sea as well . I plan on reading more of her stories .

If you into these types of stories I highly recommend The "Tenth Gift by Jane Johnson "

Laura P I loved The Rose Garden and The Winter Sea. I also really liked Mariana. But when I got to the ending.... I felt cheated. I wanted more!
I liked Iain and I was glad that it was him (though I was fooled into thinking it was Geoff throughout the book), but I felt that there should have been more development between him and Julia.... more emotional connection prior to the ending.

Laura P gertt wrote: "Their emotional connection was in their prior life. "

That's why I felt they should have felt some connection to one another in their present life.

Iain did connect, ..."

I did love the story, too. That's why it really bugs me that the ending left me feeling disappointed. I thought about it for days after finishing the book. I would like to have read more about Iain and Julia as they reconnected in their present life.
I think you are right about Julia being overwhelmed by Geoff. But I think it was partly because she was convinced he was the one( since he was a descendent) and she was too busy trying to feel the connection with him to see anything else.

Ahh.... I do love Susanna Kearsley's books! I'm looking forward to reading "The Shadowy Horses" soon.

June I've just finished reading Mariana and really enjoyed it.
Where do I go from here? Any suggestions on the next Susanna Kearsley book I should read?
Thanks.

Thank you for the suggestions Gertt!

Crystal I have loved all of Kearsley's books. They are beautiful stories that keep my interest. Love them.

Angela And if you love Susanna Kearsley's books then you'll probably like Barbara Erskine's too!

Susana Ellis I was so disgusted with the other guy not remembering her that I was ready to throw the book against the wall. Then I discovered that it was Iain-which is what I thought in the beginning anyway-and suddenly all seemed to make sense.

OF COURSE it was Iain. It couldn't have been anyone else!

Lesley I loved this book, but I did not see the end coming, and hence, felt a bit dumb when I finished. How could I not have seen it? I too reread it immediately to see what clues I missed, and honestly, did not see much in the way of clues that it was Iain. His personality seemed much more laid back than Richard's. I still loved the book, but felt something was missing at the end- I wanted to see them together, and wanted to make sure that Geoff was ok with what had happened.

I've since read The Winter Sea, and loved it just as well- now on the hunt for more Kearsley books!

Pat I loved this book which surprised me because in the beginning I wasn't sure I'd even stick with it. I began to figure out the ending, but it still blew me away to see her get it. Lovely book.

I have read all of her books and they are all fantastic, but I agree with you, The Winter Sea is my favorite of her books too!

Quiltyknitwit I also was very surprised at the ending, and like other readers, skimmed the whole novel again so I could figure out the clues. I discussed this with my daughter (who had recommended this author to me.) I've read all of Kearsley's books, and enjoyed them very much.

MaryJane Rings I like Susanna Kearsley and the way she writes so the ending was appropriate and i much enjoyed the book. Am waiting to read " The Firebirds"

Janet Don't miss her "Every Secret Thing" written by Emma Cole. Love all her books.

Mary gertt wrote: "Ahh yes, the Firebirds...more or less a sequel to The Winter Sea. Patiently waiting....."

The Winter Sea is my favorite of her novels. I didn't realize the Firebirds was a sequel!

I love rereading all of her books, including Mariana, because I find things that I missed. She's a wonderful writer.

Amber I loved that it turned out to be Iain in the end, but it was such a surprise...I think, if there hadn't been so many comparisons between him and Evan, I would have seen the twist coming. I would have liked a little more resolution...was Tom really Evan, then? Or was Julia just reading too much into Vivien's similarities to Rachel? What about John Howard? Did he ever learn the truth?

For theeeeese are the burning questions that keep me awake at night. *swoons dramatically*

Carla I LOVED THEN ENDING!!!!!! This was also the first book of Susanna Kearsley and read all the ones that are available from the Sourcebook re-releases. Looking very much to The Firebird.

I'm half way through Season of Storms. Liking it, but struggling more than I did with some of her other books. Should I keep going and finish it? or is the ending that bad?

The Winter Sea was one of the first books to make me cry in a long, long time. Kudos to the author for getting that to happen. Such an emotional book.
