Amy (kelairyy) | 137 comments Brigid, that was a good poem! :) Haha, I suck at writing poems... they're not really my forte.

D.C. | 21 comments Ga does anyone like rhyming poetry? And what else is there besides rhyming and not rhyming?

I like reading rhyming poetry, if it's good.

I mean, you cannot seriously say that you hate the Raven. I mean, it's really long, but it is an amazing poem!

message 205: by Amy (new)

Amy (kelairyy) | 137 comments I like reading rhyming poetry if it makes sense. Some people just randomly put in words just because they want it to rhyme. I remember once in 5th grade, a girl wrote a poem about running, then suddenly it turned into eating a breadstick, then about sleeping in on Saturdays. >.<

Veronica (v_a_b) | 2889 comments Mod
Yeah... that's why I don't like to write rhyming poems--because I'll end up having to throw in a random word.

message 207: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
yeah ... i like rhyming poems if they seem effortless, and not like the person is trying too hard to make it rhyme. if that makes sense.

Amy (kelairyy) | 137 comments Exactly. :)

D.C. | 21 comments Alright I wrote a poem...about poems

I guess poetry is just my thing
I write in many different ways
Poetry comes to me easiest
It is my best work, a favorite

Rhyming poetry is simply the best to me
It creatively states the great beauty I see
Its pattern makes a simple line fun
The beauty lies in when it is sung

But don’t think that’s all I can write
Poetry is full of plenty of ways
To express yourself on bad days and good
It’s just that I prefer rhyming
Because it sounds so very nice

Another kind of poem I do like is haiku, a great delight

Formless poetry
Is very
Annoying to me, does it
Even take skill? Aparently
Not

Slant-rhyme is weird
To say the least
A word made to rhyme
As if picked from a list
An example I’ll give you
A girl was kissed
But the girl had a boyfriend
Who gave the kissed man a fist

My favorite rhyme
Is the one that rushes no pattern
It takes it’s time
To find a rhythm
To find it’s pace
Not a poem that’s raced
But that rhymes naturally
Not forced by a course
Just moving freely
Without any source

Poems are hard but beautiful things
They let us take flight and share our dreams
So I guess no poem is better than another
It’s just that I prefer rhyme better than any other

I liked how you used the style of poetry (or something about that style) in each stanza. Like, the Haiku one was short, just one line.

And Brigid, have you ever read the Raven? It is one of my favorite poems!

message 211: by D.C. (new)

D.C. | 21 comments Actually I love the Raven. Edgar Allan Poe, no matter how weird he was, was a great writer

Amy (kelairyy) | 137 comments Oh and D.C., nice poem. :) I agree with Roni; I like how you used different styles when you were describing a different poem. But I noticed something It’s pattern makes a simple line fun. <---- There shouldn't be an apostrophe in "Its". lol
This is my favorite line: Poems are hard but beautiful things
They let us take flight and share our dreams

Haha you're a nerd for rhyming Brigid, according to your poem. Lol jk...I love that poem. =D

Anyways...I write both rhyming and unrhyming poems, but I prefer writing unrhyming poems more, because I have more freedom and my words just flow better. Although, sometimes rhyming poems are fun...it really depends on the poem, which style fits it better.

>.<

a good way to cure writer's block...go take a shower!! no, i'm serious. because i get most of my ideas from the shower, and that's how i figure out most of my story problems or get un-stuck! really, next time you don't know what to do, just go take a shower. something about the water and having nothing to do but just THINK makes ideas flood to you like mosquitoes to a light.

on the subject of writer's block ...
Okay so yesterday I wrote fifteen pages without stopping! It was amazing! And the way I did it was that I made myself stop for, like, five minutes, after each page. For those five minutes, I would plan out the general idea of what would happen on the page I was about to write – no farther ahead than that. And it seemed to work. :)

haha, i used to be that way. it used to take me around four hours to fall asleep every night, and i always woke up early. but then...i became so tired and stressed that now, i'm out the instant my head hits the pillow. >.<

lol, well that is like my all-time record. i NEVER have the attention span to write that much at once ... usually i only write like half a page a day. lol. this time i just happened to be really focused. ><

Amy (kelairyy) | 137 comments 15 PAGES??!! Wow, you are productive!! :)

Argh, anyone know what's wrong my computer/goodreads? For like the past week, whenever I get on goodreads, all the images are not working, and the site looks all weird... like the links aren't horizontally listed (like groups, friends, books, etc.)... they're listed vertically... and all the links are really screwed up. :(
