Katie S (bookworm23) | 8 comments i HATE writer's block. UGH, i have the worst case of it; i started writing one story, i got stuck so i started another one and the chain continues. NOW i have THREE unfinshed STORIES. i am really in a pickle.

message 102: by Rainy (new)

Rainy you have it bad. Sorry. I have a new idea for a story but I can't put it together, this is worse than writers block.

T.O.L.I. (taleoflostink) | 1770 comments goodness, my first story wen i was 7 with my friend about these kids who get rapped on an island with dinosaurs

message 104: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) wow! I can't even read my first stories! I wrote them when I was about five... some were copies of book. All were written on computer paper in a green marker, stapled together. I illustrated them, too! My art hasn't improved much since then...

message 106: by [deleted user] (new)

I just went through and read some of my stories I wrote in like third grade, and I'd never realized how stupid they were!!

message 107: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) hehe. I'll read stories that I wrote as recently as sixth grade and cringe! But, at least I'm improving!!

yeahhh... i don't think i got really good at writing til around somewhere in seventh grade... all my stuff from before then is unbearable. lol. i read it and i'm like "seriously. where did i get such a dumb idea??" and all my characters were so BORING and ANNOYING! AAAH!! i always made my characters either too perfect, or too whiny. when i read my old writing i just wanna rip all the characters' heads off. lol. XD

message 109: by [deleted user] (new)

i guess i started The Chosen One in sixth grade, too. only it was a short story back then. despite the very cliché title, i thought the plot had potential, so i've rewritten it, like, three times, and i'm still working on lengthening it into a whole novel.... it's taken me four years so far, though... which is a longer time than it took me to write anything else that i've written. lol. :P

T.O.L.I. (taleoflostink) | 1770 comments my story is called hands.....but its not up

message 116: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) In sixth grade was when I wrote my first major story. I never finished it (i made the mistake of writing the end about half way through and got too depressed to finish) but it was an important mark in my writing. It was the first time I had created good characters. i still love the story and think it could be really good. It's actually revisted in a different book. : ) But my point is, without that story (that probably wasn't the very best but still okay) I never would've been able to write anything that I have written. If I hadn't gotten writers' block on that first story, I never would've written my first novel (in a week, too!)! So I love it and keep it close, realizing that it was a huge turning point. Myran is very near and dear to me. I still pull him out to "talk" to every now and then. Is that wierd to talk to past (dead) characters?

message 117: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
Hmmmm... idk. I never talk to my past characters. After I've finished writing their stories, it's like they're finally satisfied w/me and they stop bugging me. lol. and then some other new characters start popping into my head and taking their place. i do miss some of my past characters, once their stories are finished; and just bcuz they don't talk much to me anymore doesn't mean that i don't care about them--cuz i do!!! it's just that my head is sooo full of all the characters from my current stories that i don't often have time to think about characters from the past. if that makes sense. ;D

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) I just had the WORST WRITER'S BLOCK EVER! I was writing Beyond the Gates and this and that is happening and it's at a super suspenseful part AND I GET WRITER'S BLOCK! I AM SO MAAAAAD! >:(

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm sorry. . . anyway i'm past all my writers block, I'm done with my book!! I'm so happy I want to cry!!

yaay for you cali!! XD congrats!
hmmmm i have writer's block too... for two out of three stories. siiiigh

message 121: by [deleted user] (new)

sad, i'm sorry.

message 122: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) :) Writer's block is part of writing, no? haha... too bad it has to be so dang frustrating!

message 123: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 07, 2008 12:00PM) (new)

I know. . .I just hate editing so much!! I personally think it's worse than writers block.

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) Me too!

BTW, I past the writer's block ^-^

message 125: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) haha... don't get me started on editing. It's the worse! Especially with writing as imperfect as mine. I write and write and write while I have ideas. My first draft is just to make sure I have all my possible ideas down. Then comes the cutting and the fixing and the crucifying... *sigh* my poor, poor characters.

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) Lol!
I felt bad for my character's last night...cause I had to stop RIGHT WHEN SOMEONE MIGHT DIE!

message 127: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) ooo i hate when that happens! The other day I stopped right as a house blew up. I did it on purpose, though. I figured then I might be able to keep it fresh in my mind if I was worried about it. :)

message 129: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) i had a teacher who once told me that you should never stop at the end of the sentence. You should never complete the last one you write if you're done with the project. I don't go that extreme, but I always try to leave myself on a cliffhanger.

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) I like leaving my readers on a cliffhanger like cut to the next scene in the most suspenseful place it's fun XD

message 131: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) haha yes. I only do that either at the beginning or towards the end, though. when i want the suspence level high. During the middle i try to keep going on curiosity and intrigue.

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) Yeah. Cliff hangers are fun to write ^-^

message 133: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) haha. i love when you read those books and a chapter ends and you've told yourself "after this chapter i have to go to bed!" and then it's a total cliffhanger!

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) I know! Or you finish a chapter and the teacher says 'Okay time to stop reading'

message 135: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) ooo i hate it! well i've g2g. see ya!

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) Bye bye!

message 137: by [deleted user] (new)

I love cliffhangers. my first book hangs on one, and I just finished it, i'm so happy. I already have the first 2 chapters of the second book written.

brigid, i can't say that i'm so lucky. i finished the morte; yet holly still bugs me. grr. she's SO annoying. lol. but i guess it really is my fault for creating her that way. XD

message 139: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
haha. yes, i suppose... XD well, my characters sometimes stay in my head for just a few days after i finish their story, just cuz i'm so used to having them there, and it makes my life feel so empty w/o them... lol. XD but they leave eventually... and stop by every once in a while...
uh-oh. eva's here and she's still mad at me!!! AAAAH!!! i think i better start running... XD

message 140: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) haha! I think my characters learn from each other. Sometimes they're even obstinate enough to sneak to a different story? Have you ever had that moment when two ideas that have been running around in your head uncompleted, and BAM! Suddenly they collide and you start singing, "Oh happy day!!" Haha.... that happens quite a bit. Which is why I let a story mull around in my head for quite a while before I start writing. I keep hoping that it will find its match... *sigh* it's not working for this one at the moment...

lol...I think I recall us having this conversation once before...deja vu?? lol XD

message 142: by Brigid ✩ (new)

yeah this happens quite often. XD lol.
hmmm it's mostly just eva that bothers me, though. david doesn't so much; i guess he's more forgiving. lol. ;D

message 143: by Laina (new)

Laina (laineyru) haha. my character (that still keeps me company... maybe because i haven't really finished his story because i don't have the heart to do it completely...) is the one who told me what his fate was. he's accepted it, i just don't know that I have. he's my one na donly true love that i'll never forget. : )

ah, yes. i too develop crushes on many of my male characters... right now i have, like, two or three. two and a half maybe. tee hee.

message 145: by Kenzie (new)

Kenzie | 2838 comments Not me, I try not to get crushes on my own characters 'cause when I have to kill them, or hurt them -grimace- it tears me up inside. But I know they're good if my sister or a close friend falls for them!

message 146: by Brigid ✩ (new)

oh yeah i know what u mean! i totally abuse my characters sometimes; especially the ones i have crushes on, ironically. :-/ there must be something totally wrong w/me. XD lol. not that i like doing it; i hate it!! it hurts!!! :( but that's always the way it ends up... my stupid twisted mind...
uuuuhhhh yeah so i get pretty major crushes on some of my own characters. hee hee. idk what other ppl think...? do any of u guyz think any of my characters are hot? or is it just me? XD

message 147: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellerobins) gah. i have writers block in everything. i havent written the other side of the world since may, and now its august. im pathetic.

i always have a plan for my characters. like i write the ending before i even start the beginning, or even aware that its okay writing material. but for some of my stories, i have a very vague idea of what the ending is, or how they're gonna get there.

for fake secret, i have three alternatives mapped out, and i dont know which one to chose. gah!! this is gonna take forever.

message 148: by [deleted user] (new)

idk what to do with my writing, right now, i'm even debating if I should actually get my book published. . . or if I should wait until i'm older.

message 149: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellerobins) well, when im writing i just take the readers into consideration, whether i plan to publish or not, as my teachers are a bit curious to see my writing skills, or lack therof, whatever their opinion happens to be.

hahahaha.
u think luke is cool? idk, for some reason i don't have much of an obsession over luke. i mean, i like him; yeah i guess he is pretty cool. he's just kinda stupid sometimes. XD
as for david... okay well he's pretty hot. for a fictional character. XD although he has a lot of issues, and he's sort of, um, suicidal. which is kind of a huge problem...
