What makes a good character???

Totally... Like Rue from the Hunger Games or Fred Weasley from Harry Potter.

And yes, caring about the characters is a must, but I think that that is more so to do with an authors writing than with a character. For example, I didn't enjoy The Iron King all that much, because I didn't care about the characters. That wanting to know what is going to happen to them was missing for me.
Characters are a really important part of a story for me, if I don't like the characters or I can't connect to them, no matter how good the story is, I won't be able to get into it.

Never read harry potter but yes. Even I was pissed when Rue died in the Hunger Games.

I think that being a good characters is understanding the other characters in the book and cares about them. If there is complications between the characters in a book then the characters won't get along.
Do they have to be strong? Flawed? What do you think makes a main character interesting?
