What do you think makes a good character? To b e more specific, the main character. What do you look for in a main character?

Do they have to be strong? Flawed? What do you think makes a main character interesting?

Richard (ddaythecannibal) To tell the truth you have to care about the character.

Totally... Like Rue from the Hunger Games or Fred Weasley from Harry Potter.

Daisy | 136 comments I like flawed characters, that way you can have lots of character development and it also makes them more relatable for some people.

And yes, caring about the characters is a must, but I think that that is more so to do with an authors writing than with a character. For example, I didn't enjoy The Iron King all that much, because I didn't care about the characters. That wanting to know what is going to happen to them was missing for me.

Characters are a really important part of a story for me, if I don't like the characters or I can't connect to them, no matter how good the story is, I won't be able to get into it.

Jacy (jazabell) | 73 comments I think that the most important aspect of a character is reliability. If you can't see things from the character's perspective or how they came about their decisions then you don't have any investment it the story and won't finish it.

Never read harry potter but yes. Even I was pissed when Rue died in the Hunger Games.

Ana (avdraws) I think that what makes a good character is someone who you cant see the obvious that they are made up by someone, but someone that you really think is telling you their real life.

Aurora Yeah, flaws always make a character relatable. Personally, I like heroes who are doing something because it's the right thing to do, not because they want power out of it.

I think that being a good characters is understanding the other characters in the book and cares about them. If there is complications between the characters in a book then the characters won't get along.
