I think Joseph Fiennes for Delaunay. Will have to look up those others.I think I'd prefer Charlize Theron over Angelina Jolie for Melisande somehow. On second thought...
And it's a tough choice between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. They both have a fresh-faced quality to them.
I thought about mentioning where they were all from. Sorry about that. I had to look up William Moseley because I could see his face but couldn't remember his name.Adrian Grenier is from Entourage and Devil Wears Prada
William Moseley is Peter in Chronicles of Narnia. If you look him up on imdb, you'll see him with long hair.
Nicholas Hoult is in X-Men First Class as Beast.
Tom Felton is Malfoy.
So i'll add my personal thought up casting too.phedre- I was always wavering between kaya scodelario (effy from the UK version of skins) and phoebe tonkin (most recently seen as basically the only reason i watched the secret circle).
next is melisande -..this was so hard for me because i didn't want to go too old like an angelina jolie but couldn't go young (otherwise i'd probably have given phoebe it). I ended up going with Mila Kunis because I feel she could easily give off that sultry yet dangerous vibe but idk...my listing of actresses failed to pick up an instant winner .
anafiel- almost as hard to think of someone as melisande...i almost ended up just saying clive owen cause he's always a safe bet lol but, and i have literally no reason why , but randomly from like i think 100 on i thought dylan mcdermott and just went with it
alcuin- i thought nicholas hoult (also from UK skins) (just get him wigs)
joscelin- ed speleers(from eragon) or lucas till (most notably , from xmen 1st class) or william moseley (narnia series)
hyacinthe - since i never could remember exactly what he was supposed to look like, i kind of threw it to dev patel (didn't care much about the character and did it because i wanted to imagine his mother being played by Shohreh Aghdashloo)
and that's all the ones i can remember..if i remember who i cast for any other random characters I WILL BE BACK...
okay because i realized that i'm an apparent skins uk casting addict, i'll change alucin from nicholas hoult to Nathaniel Buzolic..and also I forgot my one minor character casting i couldn't get out of my head.vitale bouvarre (aka mr ultra alcuin creeper) i couldn't help but keep picturing as the duke from the moulin rouge...so throwin his creepyness out there.
I don't usually find myself picturing anyone real as the characters in a book, but after reading this thread I got an image of James Callis (Giaus Baltar from BSG) as Anafiel Delaunay and now I can't really lose it.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia...
I didn't really picture anyone while reading, but I looked at a few casting videos (I'm always curious how people view the characters) and got the idea of Jessica Alba as Phedre.

OMG, good call. I'd love him as Delaunay.

Okay, my self-imposed pick conditions:- No megastars.
- No timeshifting. Actors should be as they are today.
- Able to convey a certain unearthly quality.
Phedre - First person that jumps to mind for me is Amanda Seyfried, largely based on her performance in the movie In time with Justin Timberlake.
Check out pics of Amanda in the movie here.
In many scenes, I thought she looked not entirely real. Almost doll-like. And yet, thru this fragile image signature, she was able to convey strength. Given that we'd probably lose Phedre's narrative in a film adaptation, I think being able to get that kinda thing across would be very important.
Joscelin - He's tough. It'd have to be someone who not only looked the part, but could also convey the grace and physicality. Alex Pettyfer matches my mental image perfectly... but can he dance? ;)
Milesande - I keep picturing her as Olivia Wilde.
Anafiel Delaunay - So what's James Marsters up to these days? >.> Or how about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau?
Alcuin - I got nuthin'. I'm not sure anyone out there can come close to what's in my head.
soo here are my choices Phedre - Phoebe Tonkin
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm100838348...
Joscelin - joseph morgan
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm104305254...
Anafiel Delaunay - Jonathan Rhys Meyers
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm163712512...
Milesande - Lara Pulver
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm415693158...
Hyacinthe - Joe Dempsie
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm172338150...
Alcuin - Jamie Campbell Bower
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm360261580...
Clairissa wrote: "soo here are my choices Phedre - Phoebe Tonkin

wooo someone who agrees with one of my phedre choices! lol..
and also since i said i was gonna look at some more minor characters
ysandre (am i spelling that right..) perhaps an emily vancamp? or maybe leven rambin?
drustan- i couldn't help but do the easy answer of a jason mamoa..
grainne - this was difficult cause i was trying to think of slightly more muscled strong seeming warrior womenish types..but in the end that fell through and i ended up with janina gavankar..
and that's all i have ...(SOO MANY MINOR CHARACTERS, too little time!!)
For Phedre- Ashley Green http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2230865/For Joscelin - Justin Hartley
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1261997/
It gets a little harder after that!!!
For Melisande - someone who looks like Megan fox but dosn't act like her!
So here are my choices for the characters:Phedre = Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones)
Alcuin = Douglas Booth (Great Expectations)
Hyacinthe = Gaspard Ulliel (A Very Long Engagement)
It was very hard for me to imagine any actress out there as Melisande because of the way she's described in the book. But if I've to make a choice, it'd be Marion Cotillard.... or Angelina Jolie.
Amy wrote: "I don't usually find myself picturing anyone real as the characters in a book, but after reading this thread I got an image of James Callis (Giaus Baltar from BSG) as Anafiel Delaunay and now I can..."Yes. He would be so perfect for this character. :D
... I love Giaus Baltar, so maybe I am a bit biased.
I don't usually cast actors in my head, but sometimes someone will stike me as perfect for whoever and I'll picture them as I'm reading. Trying to make myself think of an actor for each role is tougher than I thought it would be, though! Factoring in correct ages would be even more impossible, so forgetting accuracy for the moment, here's my ideas.
Joscelin - He's the only one I already knew who I'd pick. Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) has always been Joscelin to me, hands down. But I do like a lot of the other ideas in this thread.
Melisande - I can see how Angelina Jolie would be an obvious choice here, but she just seems TOO devilish to me. Melisande is more subtle. The more I think about it, I'm starting to picture Jennifer Connelly. Especially as an older Melisande.
Hyacinthe - I'm gonna echo Renee and say Adrien Grenier on this one. Tried to think of someone else, but he just fits. Good choice!
Delaunay - Daniel Craig is my pick. I have no idea if he even slightly resembles the Delaunay as described in the book, but he just feels like the character to me. He exudes that kind of shrewd intelligence and authority that is Delaunay.
Alcuin - I guess because I'm not as attached to him, I can picture a lot of different possibilities. Harry Lloyd (Viserys from Game of Thrones) could work, Jamie Campbell Bower as Clairissa said, or maybe Ezra Miller? A younger Ben Barnes (Chronicles of Narnia) too.
Ysandre - I know I used to have someone in mind, but now I can't remember who. I like both of Courtland's ideas though!
Phedre - Last but not least. I.. have no idea. No one comes close to how I imagine Phedre. Emmy Rossum, perhaps?
Jess wrote: "For Melisande I picture someone like Lena Headey http://www.imdb.com/media/rm255064064..."Yes!!! She could totally pull off Melisande!
@Jes/Iris It's funny you recommended Lena Headey, since I was just talking to my friend about how Melisande is everything Cersei (SOIAF - Lena Headey plays her on the HBO series) strives to be. I personally think Melisande plays utter manipulation better than Cersei.
Cersei is an idiot who thinks she's a genius. Melisande is not an idiot.I was actually thinking Pierce Brosnan for Delaunay...
Crispina wrote: "Cersei is an idiot who thinks she's a genius. Melisande is not an idiot."LOL. As I read Melisande, I thought now here is a woman who could really shake up the world of SOIAF. Cersei eat your heart out. I think Melisande is a great antagonist, although I don't think I'd call her a "villain"
I was also thinking James Marsters for Delaunay -- he has the quiet catlike good looks that I thought of in Delauney.Chris Hemsworth for Joscelin.
Angelina Jolie for Melisande.
Adrian Grenier for Hyacinthe.
I haven't quite found my Phedre.
I also like Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) for Phedre. I think I was picturing her throughout the book without knowing it. Her and Emmy Rossum have very similar looks.I'm still not sold on any actor for Anafiel. Maybe Colin Firth or Ewan McGregor? I just picture someone older, but not over 50. I kind of like the James Marsters (Spike) suggestion.
I think David Tennant should be cast as a minor Skaldi character.
I think Aidan Turner (Being Human) would be a good Joscelin.
No one has cast Waldemar. I think Gerard Butler or Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) would be fabulous.
Renee wrote: "I also like Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) for Phedre. I think I was picturing her throughout the book without knowing it. Her and Emmy Rossum have very similar looks.I'm still not sold on any a..."
Yes! After seeing her performance in Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke certainly has the chops to be Phedre.
I've been imagining Eric Stoltz as Anafiel after re-watching Caprica.
I can see Gerard Butler as Waldemar.
Now that I've seen Tom Hiddleston without his Loki hair, I'm totally thinking him for Delaunay.Melisande - Charlize Theron
Phedre - Natalie Portman
Since we're casting out of GoT, I think Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) could pull off Joscelin. If Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) got skinny, I see him as Hyacinthe.

In the Melisande thread there's been a little discussion on Melisande, Phedre and Joscelin. Some suggestions offered so far:
Melisande - Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron
Phedre - Evan Rachel Wood, Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, young Rachel Weisz
Joscelin - Liam Hemsworth, Paul Newman from HUD (Felicia's choice), Peter O'Toole from Lawrence of Arabia (also Felicia's choice), Ryan Goseling, Chris Hemsworth
I personally like the suggestion of Mila Kunis for Phedre. None of the Joscelin suggestions are hitting the nail on the head though. He's slim and cat-like in my mind, so I see more like Alex Pettyfer.
Hyacinthe, hands down through the entire book was Adrien Grenier for me. I can't picture anyone more perfect.
Alcuin was always William Moseley when I pictured him. I think a blonde Nicholas Hoult would also be good or a younger Tom Felton.
Does anyone have a Dalauney in mind? His appearance was never solid in my mind. I couldn't pin down a good image so I couldn't cast him.
