Danny One of my favourite characters, who I feel is often overlooked, is the lovable Samwise Gamgee. When I read the trilogy, he was my favourite hobbit, including Frodo. His dependability, loyalty, and good plain hobbit sense combined with his simple bravery in the face of overwhelming odds make him a great character.

Serena Huang (marrykatebush) | 259 comments Interesting point, Satia. I can see how some people would have a problem with Sam and Frodo's relationship. Although Sam seemed subservient toward Frodo, but he never groveled nor behaved in an inferior way. Sam's integrity and self-assuredness were well established since the beginning of the story. He's also smart, observant, and has good memory for the lore he is so fond of.

I just love how her presence and power simply pale everyone around her, even her husband Celeborn. He seemed like a mere shadow throughout the story of Lothlórien.

I'm not really sure why anyone would complaon about their relationship. It's not like Frodo ever treats him badly, and Sam is content to serve. Besides, it's more interesting the way it is.
