Helen I enjoyed it very much. I was however, hoping that it would be a happy ending rather than a tearful one as Nicholas Sparks is known for.

Michael My least favorite book by him,it was not that great to me. I thought that the story was weak, especially when the author tried to add suspense to it.

Citra It's boring

deb22luvsbooks Seriously...tired of crying at the end of books......

Davina So so disappointing. I ended up skim reading the last few chapters! It just didn't do anything for me.

Melissa My least favorite of all his books. I was disappointed in all the violence. I read Nicholas Sparks' books for a good, sappy romance and expect to cry. Just overall disappointed with this one.

Got to add my two cents--I was very disappointed in the ending. Wanted it to end happy. Would have been okay if he had figured out a way to do that...

Deanna5333 I loved it. I think the key to not getting bored with Sparks books is to read many other authors in between. I've found that reading all the same author is like reading the same book over and over. Then it becomes predictable. Its been a while since a have one of his so I found it very enjoyable :)

Matthew Ng I feel that the plot is getting predictable. Very similar to Safe Haven...

Carol My best friend was Nick Sparks father the one he talks about in 3 Weeks with my Brother. I am only glad Mike Sparks is dead because the way Nick lies broadly and makes his father look bad would break his heart. Here is one easy to research fact. He talks about how poor they were. They lived in Fair Oaks a wealthy suburb of Sacramento and his mother owned at least one horse thier whole life. He told his father once early in his career that he did not want to write great books he wanted to right the trash women would read and make a lot of money. Well he has done that.

message 11: by Lily (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lily I was disappointed. I am not an avid fan of his but after reading The Lucky One which I enjoyed, I thought I'd give him another try.
His female point of view and the love scene was a let down.

Julie I HATED this book. Everytime I read one of his books I make a guess at the beginning who's going to die. While I do enjoy reading his books, I really wish he would find a different way to end his books besides killing off one of the characters.

Wow, Carol. I'd heard things about Nicholas Sparks. This pretty much confirms it.

Jessica I think the last 2 books (this one and Safe Haven) were mediocre, predictable, and boring. I have enjoyed his other books, so these were a disappointment. So is the news about his background that Carol posted. Hadn’t heard anything about him like that before.

Kathy This was my first and last Nicholas Sparks books

MahRukh The problem with his books is that every character is described so beautifully that you fall in love with them and when in the end things get weird you start to loose your grip on the book.Well that's what i think i loved the characters if not the ending.

Jessica Kathy, you should try one of his earlier books (like At First Sight). His older books are definitely better (I think).

QUEEN BAP I ENJOYED TH BOOK .. IT HAD A SAD ENDING BUT I DO BELIEVE I WOULD ENJOY OTHER BOOKS BY NICHOLAS SPARKS

message 19: by Gail (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gail I really enjoyed that book. I read it a while ago and can't remember why but I've not been a real reader of Nicholas Sparks and it made me want to read more of his books. I know they're known for unhappy endings. But I didn't think that one was. It seemed to leave things open to your own version.

Jools I admit i usually enjoy NS books. I usually read them as fillers between books i am waiting to read, or at a loss to find something to read.

This book i have to agree was not his best work. From the start i was thinking "Okay who is going to die" The ending was predictable.

Maybe i am the only one but i was glad Amanda and Dawson did not end up together in the end.

Redd Kaiman It reminded me of his other work.

message 22: by Jess (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jess I agree...it was BORING! I borrowed this from the library in audiobook form. I have a long commute so I like to listen to a book in the car instead of the dumb radio! I was sooooooooooo bored for like three two discs! Which was the first 8 chapters.

Once the story picked up, I really liked where it was going...and then the end, well, it sucked! Sometimes Nicholas Sparks gets a book right and sometimes he doesn't... I feel the message was received here, and that it was a good book...but it didn't end the way I wanted it to and it was sooooooooooooooooooooo boring. I will recommend it only because it was a decent story line...but other than that, it really doesn't bring much to the table.

message 23: by Jess (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jess sorry, that was supposed to be "two discs".

message 24: by Dena (new) - added it

Dena Not his best work. I didn't like the ending at all. I guess I like the feel good endings. He seems to be hit or miss wit his books. They are either awesome or just ok. I put this one into the ok category.

message 25: by Judy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Judy Collins I loved it..sad but a great read. I have read all Nicholas Sparks' books and you can never go wrong with his books or movies. I have a number of favorite authors and tend to read all their works and never disappointed!

Laura This was my 5th Nicholas Sparks novel I read and I wouldn't rate it his best, but it was still a good read. I think it was quite predictable towards the end. I much prefered 'The Lucky One' and 'Safe Haven' to this. I will continue to read more Sparks books as I do enjoy them.

message 27: by Kavya (new) - rated it 1 star

Kavya Burugupalli Very disappointing . This is my least fav of all this books

Udyani I finished reading it yesterday & was really disappointed with the ending. I was hoping they be together somehow at the end.

Sherry Council This book was good! I loved it!

Rachel Allison I really enjoyed reading this book. I know that most people on here didn't like the book and they said it was sad and predictable. What I like about NS books, is that they are almost real. Nothing in life is perfect. When I read his books, I can believe that what he writes could happen in real life. Unlike other authors, where some rich man comes along and wants to buy you everything and pulls you out of reality. For those who say NS hits or misses, I don't believe that is so. Maybe that book is just not for you. I enjoyed this book and I have and will continue to recommend this book along with his others.

message 31: by Gabrielle (new) - added it

Gabrielle to be completely honest, i felt that nicholas sparks' novels are all about the same thing, but this is so different. i absolutely loved it. i loved how there were flashbacks and how sweet but tough dawson was. i love how at the end of the novel, dawson really gave her the best of him

Maritza Julie wrote: "I HATED this book. Everytime I read one of his books I make a guess at the beginning who's going to die. While I do enjoy reading his books, I really wish he would find a different way to end his..."

Thank you!!!! I hated this book too

Maritza Kathy wrote: "This was my first and last Nicholas Sparks books"

Yeah this is the worst choice for a Nicholas Sparks book....I hated this book! It was awful...try The Guardian....that one was really good. the Choice is another good one. A Bend in the road was also one I liked. But this one was just gross. I never read a book where I hated the heroine....#justsaying

message 34: by simpp (new)

simpp I feel like people are exaggerating a bit with the bad ratings. The story may have been cliche but it kept me reading through it. I like to try not to guess what's going to happen next. I feel like guessing ruins the feeling of the book.

On the other hand, I wanted a happy ending. I was expecting one as well! It kind of ruined my mood when I finished reading it. I think I spent the rest of the day doing nothing!

Molly i really liked the movie but i was a little confused that amanda's soon got the heart

Autumn Culler Molly wrote: "i really liked the movie but i was a little confused that amanda's soon got the heart"

There was a movie?

Kenzie London Very gratefull for this post as I was about to read it and I reminded myself that very few of his books have happy endings. Th reason I read this genre (romance) is for the predictable happy ending If I wanted reality I would read my Journal!

Maritza Hated it hated it hated it and I went into FULL rant mode in my review.....

Julie It's just SAD that almost every Nicholas Sparks books has someone die. Tragedy and heartbreak doesn't have to contain death. Nicholas, PLEASE find another way to end your books!

Maritza @Julie try "The Choice" lots of tragedy and heartbreak....(no death) lol

Julie Maritza wrote: "@Julie try "The Choice" lots of tragedy and heartbreak....(no death) lol"

I said "Almost". I think "The Choice" and "The Wedding" were the only books that I've read of his that someone didn't die.

I love his writing style, but his stories are too predictable and are starting to become cookie cutter. Guess I'll just wait for the movies to come out.

Maritza I liked "The Wedding" as well....have you read "the Guardian"?

message 44: by Alice (last edited Jun 25, 2014 07:27PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Alice Esguerra I hate the paranormal part. Why does he not stick to reality and skip the ghost part of the story? Or is the "ghost issue" figurative? I don't know, but one thing's sure, I didn't enjoy reading this book, sorry :(

Allison Smith As I am preparing to comment on this, I am disappointed by the comments I already see. This book was NOT predictable and as a thirteen year old girl I should know what is and isn't predictable considering all those unoriginal chick flicks and books that girls my age see and read. This book, like all Nicholas Sparks books, teaches the lesson of how love is forever whether it works out or not and the strongest love is the first. In fact, I am watching The Notebook as I'm writing this. This movie is not a chick flick and this book was not something everyone read (to be honest, I try to get everyone I know to read The Notebook, The Best of Me, or anything else by Sparks), it was actually a beautiful movie and book. His books are the only ones that I know of that are truly adapted well into movies. So to Nicholas Sparks, thank you for teaching me and everyone who has read anything by you, that love is something everyone deserves to feel and something that lasts forever. More importantly, the love that is the strongest kind is the first, as I said earlier. :)

Allison Smith Stop saying bad things about this book! This book was not just about Amanda and Dawson, it was so much more than that. It was about Tuck and his wife, Alan and Candy, Abee and Candy; everyone in this book had fallen in love one way or another! If its so predictable why do you continue to read it? Would you rather have an unhappy ending where let's say Frank kills Dawson in front of Amanda? Or would you rather have a character learn a lesson that everyone in love can be taught? I'd rather go with the second option even though I haven't fallen in love yet, but knowing that I will one day makes this books 100% better than you think they are.

Allison Smith His books are a fantasy that everyone dreams about having one day, I know I do. If you want reality, don't read it and enjoy your forever single life while I and others who love and adore his books will go out and find that true love that we want and deserve. Sure you deserve it, but it doesn't seem like you want it so don't have it, see how happy you are afterwards.
k I'm done arguing with haters.

Allison Smith WAIT WAIT WAIT one more thing. I just realized this: as soon as this movie comes out on October 17, all of the people who hate it will either come out of the movie theater with these words:
"The book was better" therefore you will be admitting that the book in your opinion was good.
"THAT WAS SUCH A GOOD MOVIE & BOOK (you'll most likely be saying this in tears)"
so either way you'll love this book. In a way I feel very mature here explaining to all of you how outrageous you're being. Older people who are already married love these books. Note: I AM THIRTEEN doesn't that make me seem like a mature love expert (I'm probably not, but I'm trying to make a point here). So maybe some of you hate this book because you can't relate to the older characters who fell in love before you were born. Moral of your story: YOU ARE ALL JEALOUS. As for me? Hell yeah I'm jealous that people get to have wonderful love stories, but one day I'm gonna fight for something like that. All of you people living in what you call reality aka single lives can continue hating on things you could possibly not have if you don't believe in it.

Allison Smith Some of you are also saying "This isn't something that would happen in reality" and "Why does someone always have to die?"
WELL GUESS WHAT? SOMETIMES YOUR HEARTS STOPS AND YOU DIE THAT IS REALITY. YOU COULD BE IN LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS UGH NOW I'M STRESSED OUT READING ALL THE GOOD BOOKS INCLUDING THIS ONE THAT ALL OF YOU HATE. NOT TO MENTION I HAVE TO STAND UP FOR THESE AUTHORS AND THESE BOOKS WHILE YOU SIT HERE ON YOUR PHONES AND LAPTOPS DESPISING THESE BOOKS WITH YOUR HARSH WORDS

GOOD BYE UGHHHHHHH

Maritza I for one won't be watching the movie....and it's because I didn't like the book. As much I think Paul Walker would have made an excellent Dawson, if he had been doing the movie I still wouldn't watch it. Some things just better left alone....thanks
