Shaun The second best of the Ian Fleming series I've read so far (behind From Russia with Love), Ian Fleming got down to business on this one, this is a classic for the bookshelves.

Mark Why 5 stars?

Fleming based a lot of this book writing a tv-format with two others. And when that did not work out he made a book of their efforts.
Hence the 2nd movie based upon Thunderball "Never say never again"

Why five stars? - I based it off the fact that I am huge Bond fan, and a huge fan of Ian Fleming novels with Thunderball I felt he got back on track with a great storyline, plot, concept, characters description and theur involvement in the story no matter the reason why he wrote the book I thought it was great the way it was written, I hadn't felt that way since From Russia with love.

Mark In that case how will you mark OHMSS & YOLT which are the middle and finishing part of the SPECTRE trilogy.

Shaun Well I just started reading OHMSS (and I think the beginning starts off really good) I have yet to get to YOLT (I'm reading all the books in chronological order. but I just completed Carte Blanche by Mr. Deaver and I bought Colonel Sun a well (curious to know what you think of those two?).

Mark I am a great fan of OHMSS & YOLT they are showing the growth of James Bond as a character.
Colonel Sun I have not read in a long time but they are closer to the world of Fleming than any other writer that is non-Fleming.
Carte Blanche is somewhat disappointing, that while I rate Deaver very high his books are a blind buy. He did not only reinterpret 007 to modern times but it somehow seems to be another person than the Fleming creation. He is more the EON creation.

Shaun Okay so this is where I am having a problem with the James Bond author comparisons (and really because I love Ian Fleming's Bond, but I did think it was necessary that modernizing Bond as well and open him up to a new generation), (but first let me say so far OHMSS is a great book the plot, the concept is pretty awesome). I thought Carte Blanche was a good book although it did seem sort fake to me at first when he was mentioning today's products such as Iphone's and Stolichnaya :-, but then again Bond in Colonel Sun & Carte Blanche Bond was a bit more intense and smarter as well (Daniel Craig comes to mind) and that's how I think he should be, with Ian he seems to make silly mistakes alot and get too distracted by women too often.
