John, you weren't able to edit the book because it was not on your author profile. I moved it there and fixed the pub date. You should now be able to add a cover.

Also, when adding books manually, please keep in mind that you are John-4space-Thompson, and you must put 4 spaces between your first and last name when adding the book for it to show up on your author page. If not, a librarian can edit it to have those spaces (as I just did).

Hi, all. Can someone help me out? I'm a fairly new author and I just had my second book out today. The publisher said they don't put them on good reads and, being a goodreads addict, of course I want it here! I added it myself just fine, but I failed to see the 'add cover image' button in the top right and suddenly the book was there without it's cover!

I guess it takes a Goodreads Librarian to add it. I could apply for that but I doubt I will need it often. Would someone here be willing to add the cover for me?

We cannot use covers or other book data from Amazon or other booksellers. A link to an author or publisher site would work, or you can upload the cover to your Other Photos section and link there.

Those two covers are very different from one another. Can you please tell us which one is ON the edition that you have read. If you can also provide an ISBN number for it it would be great. Also is there authors/illustrators? Any information you can give would be welcomed

I think that's why there are editions of a book. I noticed the book description is in the language of its edition

I thought so too, but this ISBN is for a book in french, but the description, is in german. Should I change the description to a french one (available from the publisher)? Thanks!

From the manual:
"description

The description field is for entering a summary of the work. The best description to enter is one found on the back cover or on the dust jacket of the book. If the book does not have a summary listed anywhere on the cover or pages, you can copy a description from a different edition or you can write your own. The description can be a couple of sentences or a couple of paragraphs describing the content of the book. It should be a generic summary and should NOT include reviews or personal feelings (i.e. "This is a book about sisters. It was good. You should read it"). The summary should also NOT contain any important spoilers such as mentions of characters deaths, how the book ends, major twists or other information that would spoil the story for those who have not read it.

Descriptions copied from an outside source, such as Wikipedia, should contain a short citation stating where the summary originated from. "

So yes, a book should have a description in the language of that particular edition... Only when not available it's acceptable one from a different edition or one in another language!

I tried to put up my new book cover (http://www.goodreads.com/photo/author...) for First, I Love You (First I Love You) as a new edition but it won't let me use the ISBN. So I am wondering if you can just switch the covers or tell me how to get around this. I want people to see the new cover as the default and be able to click on the buy links and they will need the ISBN/ASIN to do that. Thank you guys for your help!

We do not switch covers around but create alternate cover editions.

GR policy is for the ISBN remains with the first published edition

You can set the default edition that displays using these instructions in msg 4
