Adding a book cover image

How does one add a book cover image to an existing book that doesn't have one yet?

Assuming you have an image ready to upload:

1) Click "edit details" on the specific edition's page.
2) Underneath where it says "Add a cover image for this book.", click "Choose", then find and select your image file.
3) Click upload photo, then you're done.

Oh, thank you Amara! I was looking for something similar to when one first uploads a book (in the top right hand corner with the "browse" button) & couldn't find anything. I though the "edit details" was for editing my personal review of a book! I'll try that now=:)

"Your permissions will only allow the editing of the metadata"

There is no "Add a cover image for this book."

So now what do I do?

Only librarians can add cover images. You can ask a librarian to add the cover for you or apply to become a librarian yourself.

Unless when adding a new book not already on Goodreads then anyone, not just librarians, can add a cover.

So anyone can add a book and all its data plus a cover but only librarians can add a cover to an existing book that lacks a cover. Does that make sense? No. I didn't think so either but that's the way it works.

Only librarians can make changes to books already existing in the database, which includes adding or changing the cover art. This makes perfect sense because leaving these things open to all members would result in many changes that do not abide by the librarian manual.

I suspect it would be difficult to leave covers open to all users to add while still keeping the rest of the book locked down.

Yes of course. What doesn't make sense is that any joker can join Goodreads and add new books to the database whether or not the data is accurate and whether or not the book actually exists and whether or not it is a duplication.

Actually, they need to have been a member for a minimum number of days, and must have a verified email address.

And we have several librarians who regularly check all newly-added books. So if a user is adding things that should not be added, they don't usually last long.

Thank goodness for that~!

I do sometimes see separate listings generated by alternate spellings of author's names and different editions of the same book not being combined but it is minimal.

I'm pleasantly surprised that you are so well organized and on top of things. I don't know how you do it but I'm so pleased that you have this place so shipshape.

I greatly appreciate the hard work by some very talented people who have earned my utmost respect.

Please don't link to a bookseller site as we can't use them, but author website or publisher is fine ;)

You don't have the librarian status that's why you are not able to add the cover. Please provide a link with the cover and we'll do it. Also if you have the missing information(publisher, year, number of pages etc) please provide them
