I have to finish the book first before I can make better parallelisms, but I think plagiarizing is too strong of a word for it. If Rizal was inspired by the book, which is likely since Monte Cristo was his favorite, there's nothing wrong with that.
There is a lot of similarities that for sure. I want to hear Rizal's side first ;p.
Oh, man, I wonder if I can finish by the 3rd. I still have about 400 pages left, hahaha it's such a huge book.

I love it! But that was expected, since I've always been a big fan of Dumas. Mahaba lang sya, so I was always delaying in picking it up before -- marami kasi akong gustong basahin ng mabilis.
I resumed reading this last night because I finished my two books (Ishiguro and Doyle) already. I think I made a good progress. I will post tonight. I want to finish this on Saturday so I can start a new book on Monday.Frankly, I am barely liking the book. However, this is a classic so I guess I need to adjust my yardstick a bit. The story seems contrived and oh yes, like a radio drama.
@Rachel: I did not like "The Three Musketeers" and "Man in the Iron Mask" so I was actually surprised that I liked this.@KD: I would love to read your review. Everybody seems to like it! haha I think Jzhun and Kwesi liked it haha. Its not a favorite of mine but I rated it 4 for its "readability" (or maybe because it was translated and is abridged) and a story that's easy to follow and so close to Pinoys' hearts! hehe
Krizia Anna: Well, different strokes for different folks hak hak. I am now in that Chapter (I forgot the number kasi Roman Numeral na malaki na), that the Count is doing his revenge to Danglars. I dunno. When it comes to revenge, however wronged the person is, I still don't agree and the way the Count goes through to scheme and executes the revenge is just too long and taxing. I know it is readable and entertaining but I just don't think it is realistic. Kung ako, ipapa-salvage ko na lang siguro sa mamang nakamotorsiklo isa-isa ang mga yan. Kay Danglars yong wife nya na unfaithful at si Eugenie na anak nya, isasama ko na lang para matapos na ang mga kaartehan nila hak hak.Parang telenovela lang. So, parang naging ordinaryong YA lang. Mas gusto ko yong may "matured" na writing in Victor Hugo sa Les Miserables. Parang parehong era sila sa France pero mas pang adult ang Les.
Around 50 pages more to go and it is done. Ganoon pa rin. Parng pinahaba lang ang revenge. Di ko makita ang point. Siguro sa ending. *hoping*
I finished it a couple of hours ago! I'm about four days late, haha.
I am done as well. I will review tomorrow. It is nice overall. 3 stars!!!
