I've thought about this a lot and think it has to do with trust. She has those nightmares but when Roarke is there, she can count on his comfort and presence to pull her through. She has anxiety when he's not there and she has to sleep alone. Roarke has peace of mind when he sees that troubled mind fall into a restful sleep. It's the perfect illustration of their relationship, where he is one of the few Eve has absolute trust in and Roarke admires her strength and vulnerability.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I agree Eve has absolute trust in Roarke, but also it is the knowledge that she doesn't have to face life alone, as she has done throughout her life. I find it amazing that when Roarke is away that Eve will invariably have a nightmare. I wonder if that is going to happen in the later books.
