SOLVED. WW2, plane crash, kimberly?, survive with help of aborigine [s]

Can anyone help with the title of a book ?
Set in WW2, couple fleeing war in asia , plane crashes in australia, possibly kimberly, discover a gorge with water and survive with help of aborigine, I seem to remember another character possibly had escaped asia with precious stones or they find precious stones in the gorge?
Story eneds years later when the old lady aborigine who had looked after the female crash victim dies.
Does that ring any bells with anyone?
This story may have appeared in a readers digest condensed book?
