Can someone please explain how Pinterest works? That website confuses me... (yeah, I'm social media illiterate)

Well basically Pinterest is an online Pinboard, where you can pin pictures. You can pin pictures from everywhere on the internet or you can repin pictures from other Pinterest users. You can make different Pinboard for different topic. For example I have a pinboard for my cover reveal and a different one for my reviews etc. It's mostly about pictures.
When you have an account you can upload pins from your computer, from an url or you can install a little widget thing from the Pinterest site, so there is this Pin It button on your bar on the top of your browser and then everytime you want to pin something from a certain page you can just press that.
You can also follow other people's boards, you can just follow all of their boards or choose the boards that sound interesting to you and follow those. When you go to Pinterest all the recent pin's from people you are following will show up. In the right upper corner you will see your name and if you click on it, you can go to your boards, pins, account settings etc.
If you have any specific questions, please ask. Pinterest can a be very confusing at first, but when you understand it, it's lots of fun.

One of my agency's interns is trying to convince me to join Tumblr, what do you all thank? Anyone on there?

With Yahoo buying it, it is only a matter of time before it dies. If I were you, I wouldn't spread yourself too thin... concentrate on one or two social networks and do those well rather than being on a ton and rarely updating them

I set up a Tumblr, but I never really took to it. I'm on enough sites as it is I think!

I think that if you want that young adult audience, you should definitely do it. My kids (ages 17-19-21-22-22) all live on Tumblr. They've almost abandoned Facebook for Tumblr and Twitter.
Beyond that, all the cool kids have them. So you should too!

I dunno - I'm doubtful that it will die anytime soon. Yahoo has no plans to change it and it's like Goodreads - many people thought that Amazon's aquisition of it would ruin it. But people like us are just fine.
I really do think that Tumblr should rank highly on the priority list of things authors should maintain in terms of social media. If your audience is largely young adult (ages 15-21), then Tumblr and Twitter are your best chances for broad exposure.

I think of Tumblr as a picture oriented Twitter.

That's exactly what this intern is saying and she's young, early twenties. Thanks Jen, I'm going to have to seriously look into it!

Really? I've heard a lot of writers have Tumblr pages and use it to connect with their fans somehow. Honestly, I have no clue as I've never even been to the site lol!!

Okay, David I played around on it for a bit--its been so long since I've been on it!
Here's mine, so it'll give you more of an idea

Basically, its a blog social site--you have your feed just like any site, and you make "posts"--these can be links, videos, photos, quotes, chat, and audio. Most people I know who have it use it as another source for blogging--they post all their stuff on their Tumblr as well. Its kind of cool, its just I do so many other sites!

Probably, i'm just saying that I look at it more for the pictures...but now that you said that, Cassandra Clare has a tumblr, and I really enjoy reading it, here's the link:
http://cassandraclare.tumblr.com/

I'm on there. Well... my blog is. Though it gets the posts later than the actual blog (unless you click feeds)
I think that's the only times on there. :p I'm not exactly as addicted to it as I am to Twitter, hehe.

Some people use it for teasers... I think.

David, definitely do it. I have one - you can check it out here:

It's just me re-posting stuff I see in my feed, stuff I think is interesting or cool. It's not like a normal blog - although it can be if you like - but it's a very good way to reach a wide YA audience.
Following you, Jen! Its a cool set up, and I can see where it would be good to spread news--although I think you can do the same thing with Twitter!
I have never been on tumbler before but I'm game just so I can follow my GRBFF's! ;-D
Here's mine that I'll figure out eventually...

Awesome everyone! Thanks for the advice and examples! I'm going to set one up soon, so I'll let you all know when I do :)

How did u come up with the idea for the book? And did something happen or did u see something or was it just an amazing "boom I'm here" kinda thought!?
Awesome question, thanks for asking it!!
Well, I knew I wanted to write a dystopian book, and I'd noticed that the vast majority of dystopian novels took place on Earth's surface, so just to be different, I thought I'd go waaaay below the surface and think about what things would be like if a relatively technology-advanced society lived down there for a very long time. I'm not sure where the Tri-Realms came from, the names, Moon Dwellers, Sun Dwellers, Star Dwellers, just popped in my head one day. It was completely random but felt so right!
In terms of the plot, I wanted there to be a strange connection between the two MCs but I had to come up with a pretty sci-fi reason for it, but I love how crazy and unexpected it is once you find out :) The rest of the plot fell into place quite easily as I wanted the main themes to be family, honor, strength, etc.
Fire Country on the other hand, was just a random BOOM situation where the main character started talking to me one day (using all her slang) and wouldn't shut up, so I knew I had to write a whole book about her! Now she appears in 4 books lol!
Thanks again for the question and hope you enjoy the rest of The Sun Dwellers and the COuntry Saga :)
