Emma's War by Deborah Scroggins:
Not-a-Novel +10

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
Combo +25 (10.7 (if you're female and non-Russian); 20.1; 20.6; 20.10; 20.8 (published serially in Moscow Magazine))
LiT +10 (if you can't, or would prefer not to read Russian)
Oldies +5 (pub 1940)
I knew Master and Margarita was a high scorer. Did Bulgakov have a child who was an author? I saw his father was a professor, but didn't see he was an author.
oh, got the wrong number - I don't think he had children, but the novel got published as a serial in Moscow Magazine .

Thanks for noticing it!I'm sure I have missed some, not having read them, and possibly got some more wrong, too :)
The Handmaid's Tale should also get combo points for 20.7 (as I was thinking of even reading it for that task lol)
Master and Margarita also qualifies for 20.1 (#38 on the best Dark Humor Listopia and the Wikipedia page for Satirical Novels).

I think the dessert word in the title should refer to the dessert, so in this case, Margarita does not earn combo points for 10.9.
I was disppointed that Best First Novel's would not work because Chiefs won that category in 1982. so no combo points.:-(Then I found Stuart Woods was shortlisted for the Edgar in 1992 so the combo is saved! :-)
The Golden Compass also gets a combo for 10.5 Teddy Bears' Picnic as it is on one of the lists (50 best every summer holiday books) under its brittish name Northern Lights.Wow, it must be Monday, I somehow missed that this is already up there....
Would The Golden Compass get combo points for Road Trip?I think Watership Down was also given approval for road trip.
Ceraphina, I updated the post after yours :) I figured that if we have a thread for it, we might just as well have all points in one post for easy c'n'p
Thanks, Liz, added.
Rebekah, Watership down already has the combo, Golden Compass is a no go, I think.
The group, Introducing Russian Literature, read The Master and Margarita for a group read last year. Those of you who have read it may be interested in these threads:Book One Chapters 1-9
