Inactivating this default feature will enable your comment to NOT be viewed on the Recent Updates thread.

Special Note: If the group you are “chatting” in is private/secret, it will NOT show on the Recent Updates thread.

However, if you don’t want all of your friends to see what you are discussing in a certain public thread, make sure you UNCHECK the box that says Add to my Update Feed underneath your comment box. (It defaults in as checked in a Public Group; it will not appear as an option in a Private/Secret Group.)

Screen #1 shows the red arrow pointing to the tab that will list all your friends’ posts. The other tab will show all your groups.

Screen #2 shows the red arrow pointing to the little box underneath your comment box. Click on that if you do NOT want the comment to appear on the Recent Updates.

GoodsReads is a Social Network for people who love books. However, if you want to change the default mentioned above:

• Go to your Profile Page.

• Click on the feeds tab.

• Then UNCLICK Comment on a book or group discussion board.

• Click on save feed settings.

I might have to use this as a temporary function when I go around updating all the “GRs How To...” folders. If I can remember! ☺

Mo (goodreadscommrw) | 2 comments Hi Lisa Kay

You said "I might have to use this as a temporary function when I go around updating all the “GRs How To...” folders. If I can remember! ☺"

I am currently a moderator of a private "secret" club, and have been trying to turn off the notifications to the other members when I am making changes / updates to the group site. I turned off all of the feed options for my own profile, but things are still being sent out.

Specifically, I set up a separate folder for each book that we are about to read. I add each chapter as a new topic. I then add 1 "phantom" type comment because Goodreads requires that I do so. (I can't just add the topic without also adding a comment.) It is these phantom comments that I want to stop being sent to members.

I just added a book (folder) with 28 chapters (items) and 28 (*) comments. I got a call from one of the group members that they just received 28 emails. Help! Is there any way to turn this off for our group?

Thanks so much for sharing so much general information in your group. You've helped me in the past on the Moderator's Support Group, and I followed you over here!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments As far as I know, Mo, - and because yours is a "private/secret" club - the "add to my update feed" is NOT an option on your end. The only thing that person can do is control their eMails on their end.

They would have to go into their Profile, under eMail, and then Group Email Preferences; change to none.

Mo (goodreadscommrw) | 2 comments Thanks so much for you prompt response! It's too bad that isn't an option, but at least now I know!

I thought I'd bump this again. I like this one and try to remember to use it when I'm posting an update on what I'm "currently reading" in my group threads. I figure, why have my GRs friends see me post it repeatedly, when once is enough.
