Annashu, it is going... slackishly. I have been running but that's it... I have to start walking longer distances. I'm excited about walking in the Walk for Hunger this weekend though, that's 20 miles. I'm thinking of going on a 5-10 mile walk the day before so I can see how I feel walking long distances two days in a row. I wish I had more people to walk with--I need to go online and find some training walks to do.

Agreed! I am the same with that and when I read her book I just laughed at that part because i'm the same way.

Since we are all so obviously in love w/ tracking things, don't forget that SparkPeople (mentioned in this thread before) is all about tracking! It's been working for me. I love typing in my fitness minutes (don't love tracking my nutrition, but it definitely helps!)
Yeah, I think SparkPeople is pretty useful for people! I've been using DailyMile.com to track my runs.
Haha I feel the same Lynn..I get all excited when I get to put down what I did for exercise and then I feel so bad when I see what I eat! lol
I recently started a group on Goodreads with a friend devoted to losing weight. We've got threads on our struggles, our successes, tips, as well as personal threads to track our progress. It's basically a way to hold yourself accountable and to find people who are going through the same thing as you are. If you're interested in joining, please send me a private message because the group is by invitation only.
My brother took back the Wii that I was using to work out, so I had to find a new way to exercise. I found some sparkpeople videos and youtube and the one I did was actually pretty good. So I decided to join sparkpeople. The nutrition tracker looks like it will be good and the breakdown of what I eat is pretty interesting and scary (no surprise though that I overdo the carbs).
I just started a 12 week program to run a 5k! I'm pretty excited about it. It is only supposed to be a 6 week program, but because I am a beginner runner I also have to do the 6 week beginning runner program. Wish me luck! :)
Stacie, Where did you get the program? I'm wanting to get into running, but the Couch to 5K kicked my butt so I didn't keep with it. Something that would ease me into it would be so helpful.
Lori wrote: "Stacie, Where did you get the program? I'm wanting to get into running, but the Couch to 5K kicked my butt so I didn't keep with it. Here is a link to the site that got the information from: http://running.about.com/od/racetrain...
It was within this program that I found the link to the running for beginners. I think I clicked on a link called "step-by-step plan for building a running base." I apologize, I looked at this again and each plan that I am doing is 8 weeks, for a total of 16 weeks. I hope that helps!!
Very helpful. Thanks Stacie! I keep going back and forth on establishing a running regimen or a walking one where I increase distance and incline.
That's awesome, Stacie! Slow and steady is the best way to build up your running endurance. I'm at the very end of the Couch to 5K running program, which I liked a lot, and I'm getting ready to run my first 5K on June 26.
So I recently terminated my gym membership because I wasn't going very often and was paying too much for it. I recently saw the $99 sale for a year at Planet Fitness, which was where I used to go, but I am worried I won't be able to find the time to go! It stinks, I'm getting really lazy and it's not good. I haven't run in two weeks. I wish I could get up early to run, but I'm bad at waking up when I don't have to be anywhere.
They just opened up a Planet Fitness in my town and I was thinking of joining because of the $99 sale. I think they're open 24 hours every day except for Saturday and Sunday, so I figured I could go when I get out of work at night.I know what you mean about how difficult it is to get up early when you don't have somewhere to be. I was going to get up early today and go running (before it got too hot out) but by the time I got up and ate breakfast it was already 10am and 80° out (I move slow in the morning!).
I'm so glad this thread is here, I'm constantly struggling with losing weight! I've always been big so I'm not trying to lose *everything*, just to get down to a healthy BMI as the closer I get to planning a family, the more worried I am that I won't be able to. I find the Wii Fit is the best, best tool for weight loss as I can do it all a home, instead of letting all the fit people at the gym see my bum wobbling!
Gina, Tahleen, and Jen--If you're interested I'm mod of a private weight loss group on Goodreads. Message me if you're interested in joining.
Of course Anna! After you accept my friend request, I'll send you an invitation because you can only invite friends.
Two quarters ago, I had books, magazines, podcast, and even music playlist dedicated to certain workouts. If I am using the stair master, I need a music. I can't move my hands much- terrible balance. If I was on a bike, I can use a book. You know? I had plans. I was there in the gym, daily. I love to workout. (Well, I hate cardio. I love weightlifting.)
But, now, this summer, I am utterly lazy in the workout department. I take full care of my foodie lifestyle but the workout part? Meh.
Getting out a bed is a big enough workout, you know? Sun-bathing takes a lot of effort!
But, reading some of the stuff here makes me want to put on my Nike's and go for a walk/job/jump-roping adventure.

Oh my yikes! I started doing the 30 Day Shred last Sunday. Eating and doing this workout is such a delicate balance to strike. Eat too far in advance and you just about near collapse from exhaustion. Eat too close and you think you're going to throw up your everliving guts. One day, so far, I haven't been nauseated afterward. But I'm sticking with it. I know that I'm improving because I'm taking fewer few second rests and feeling less tired. I haven't seen any results on the scale yet, but I have no doubt that I will soon. I really do recommend this for those who are serious about losing weight/getting into shape and are on a time budget.
Lori, I am so impressed that you're doing that. I really have to give you props, I tried doing some of her videos and THEY ARE SO HARD. Oh my goodness! She isn't very nice either! "TIRED? TOUGH GET USED TO IT PUNK" geez sorry Jillian, just doing my workout and trying not to die.
Thanks, Tahleen. She's actually not that mean in this one, at least in the first level. It is pretty hard though. The first day I did it, I didn't feel quite right until the next morning.
Do any of you ride bikes? A friend of mine is doing a 100 mile bike ride with a crazy course for Ride To Empower. It is a fundraiser for breast cancer research. The course for those that are familiar with Zion National Park, starts and ends in Springdale. She is crazy, but I admire her for it. Maybe I should start riding.
I seriously need to get into shape! Since I'm only working part time I end up sitting around the house and eating! I haven't really gained any weight but I can tell that all the muscle is turning into fat! And besides, I'll be getting engaged at some point this year so I want to be getting myself in a good shape to look good in a wedding dress so it isn't last minute!
I have some yoga dvds that I do (when I can remember/feel like it), but I find that I'm suuuuper sore for like three days after. Like to the point of not being able to move. Does anyone else have this problem? If I do them more I assume I will be less sore, but do I need to like...stretch before stretching? They have warm ups and cool downs already worked into the routine, but that's not really helping me.
So, the school district I work for is having a pedometer challenge. It's really cool. You just wear a pedometer and record your steps everyday and the top schools get prizes. It's a really cool concept to keep staff working out and healthy. I am having a hard time keeping up with the people I work with. They all like go to the gym and apparently walk a lot. I feel all I do is walk and am on my feet all day and I walk my dogs but still can't compete with them! I don't have enough money to join a gym either, so I can't really go work out. Any suggestions on how to get more steps?
Park the furthest away from buildings before you go in, take stairs instead of elevators, and walk to where you are going if it is close enough instead of driving. Good luck. That sounds like a great challenge.
I've been such a bum since I got back to school...I've only been working out once or twice a week, and this year I live closer to central campus than last year, so I don't even get as much exercise from walking. And everyone in my house cooks/bakes super yummy food, so I'm eating more this year. I pretty easily avoided the freshman 15 last year, but the odds aren't looking too good this year. =/However, in general, I refuse to take elevators (when possible), and park far away from buildings when I drive places.
Janet -- I agree, that's a great challenge!
Alright girls!! I've finally decided to lose weight. I've never actually tried before. I'm going to start a blog but I'm getting my game plan together first. I'm not dieting, I'm just going to live healthier. Eat better, have smaller portions, exercise, and lots of water. Step 1 - stop drinking cokes. Step 2 - exercise 20 minutes a day except on Sundays. Wish me luck!!! :)
Step 1 sounds like a great place to start. I quit drinking anything carbonated and I did lose a little. It is the one and only New Year Resolution I have made and Yay! for me, I kept it. Also, studies show carbonation is a leading cause to celulite, so you get the added bonus of smoother skin too.
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
Good luck Lauren! :) You can do it!I really need to start eating healthier. It's so much easier (for me at least) to eat healthy during the summer when fruits and vegetables are fresh and cheaper!
Jen -- same with me! I ate SO healthily over the summer, and now I'm eating bagels and cereal. I haven't done too bad this semester (though I've definitely eaten too many yummy baked goods that people in my house keep making) because I live in a cooperative house where we all cook, and a lot of people are fantastic cooks so we've had some very good, and often very healthy, food. But now it's finals and no one's cooking, so I've been eating pretty poorly.Good luck Lauren!
Sounds like a great plan Lauren. I've definitely cut back on the exercising now that I am in school again. When I first moved I was on a kickball team and we had a game and a practice once a week and that kept me feeling fit but now that is over and I am a bump on a log again. I do walk about a mile to and from work/school each day so I do something, and hopefully after the holidays my friend and I are going to start motivating ourselves to be active at least once a day.
Recently I've taken up running again. I've had to slowly build my time up (I could barely run for 2 minutes the first day). I'm improving a lot though! The other day I ran for 15 minutes straight. I think I could have gone a little longer but I got one of those side cramps that hurt a lot.
I'm going to start doing the New York City ballet workout on Monday. It's mostly stretching and toning rather than weightloss, but it might inspire me to do cardio and eat much better.
Lori, I've never heard of that workout before. Let us know how it goes!I've noticed that the days I exercise I usually end up eating healthier.
i do alot of exercise through pom, cheer, ballet and track. and i do sparring occasionally, which really helps.
i really wish i had a healthy eating lifestyle though. i eat really processed foods and hardly get my food groups in through actual foods. i need to stop taking supplements and actually eat good food, but its soooo hard.

I started P90X three weeks ago and i can see results. The exercises are very difficult but they rewarding. has anyone else tried p90x.

I actually had to deal with this problem last year. It's really hard for the first several weeks, but after that it becomes much easier. And I found that it really helped with my stamina when I exercised.
yeah, it does. the first couple weeks were the hardest for me, and i felt like crap after practices. but then your body gets used to it and stuff.
I finally sucked it up and am going to the gym regularly. I go every morning around 7.30 (which is amazing since I am NOT a morning person) and run 5-6 miles. I also walk there which is about at 4 mile round trip. I've been feeling a lot better, sleeping easier, and can fit into a pair of jeans from high school! :)
wow I am fantastically jealous. My exercise regime is basically sitting in front of my computer and trying to catch up on college work. I'd love to go running but I'm so paranoid about the fact that people say you should never run on concrete or your knees could get really bad.
For me, it isn't so much as motivation as it is coming up with a plan. Once I have a plan in place, it's pretty natural for me to do it and stick with it.My past quarters, going to the gym was routine. That is where I would read for class, while going on the treadmill, or listen to random podcast. No music, because then I would start to concentrate on the music.
Like, "wait, I don't want to listen to this song.. or this.. or this.. Hey, why not stop working out and make a playlist?"
But now, the gym hours are off. I would have to stay after school an extra few hours to workout. It's not too bad, I could do homework. But, I don't have that much homework usually. I could randomly socialize but small talk annoys me. Bleh.
So, I am moving my gym to my room in the upcoming weeks. I got my yoga mall, big ball, and some other things. Lets see how this goes! Teehee.
/I am moreso attempting to gain weight then lose. Muscle, more then just weight in general.
You're welcome. Should I send some chocolate to celebrate? :) Just kidding.
Did anyone watch The Biggest Loser last night? They were sent home for 2 weeks and it was the one kid's 21 birthday. His "friends" take him bowling and they are all eating pizza, cheese fries, and drinking beer then they come out with a huge chocolate cheesecake. HELLO! What kind of friends would do that?
