Visit the OneClick Digital web page. They have released a free app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. I have been using it on my iPad for a couple of months now and this has been the best program OneClick has come out with.I used to have so many issues downloading their books. This app is a direct feed to my iPad (no more computer transfer). It is smooth and seemles in transfering books.

Now if only Overdrive would allow me to transfer WMA audiobooks through their app...
i transfer stuff to my itouch through the overdrive app all the time...but if you use a Mac computer it can't be done apparently...
I transfer open ebooks and mp3 audiobooks through Overdrive onto my ipod touch but not WMA audiobooks (which is like 80% of the audiobooks I listen to). I get a message that I am not able to download WMA audiobooks onto my device so I have to do it through the PC which takes a long time compared to transferring to my old cheap phone or my sansa clip -- those only take like 30 seconds to transfer.
weird - I just loaded 2 WMA ones onto my ipod...someone in another group mentioned they had issues too with that
I've just Googled and I still can't figure out what OneClick is. All I'm getting is info on Amazon's One-Click checkout. Can you post a link? Thanks.
http://normalil.oneclickdigital.com/e...One click is a library funded audiobook website like Overdrive but not as good a section. Luckily for me my library has both!
Dee wrote: "weird - I just loaded 2 WMA ones onto my ipod...someone in another group mentioned they had issues too with that"I guess you must be lucky. I don't even get that as an option - when I check it out on my ipod I just get that message I was talking about. Are you sure they aren't mp3 audiobooks too?? Those are easy peasy to load onto my ipod touch.
I asked a while ago if my library were going to get OneClick (we had its predecessor NetLibrary), but they seem to have decided against it?
Regan, I had the same problem as you! I don't know what a WMA is. And could somebody explain in simple language why OneClick is necessary/good? When I started at Audible they set my system up via Itunes..... Do you mean there is another way of getting the books from Audible over to my Ipod? Please explain why the OneClick is better than going via Itunes when i get my books from Audible. Or is OneClick to be used when you have a CD rather than an audio book via the computer?
OneClickDigital is a program to download audiobooks over the internet from your library digitally instead of checking physical audiobooks out (CDs/playaway). It's not necessary or necessarily better, it's just a different way of doing things. I'm guessing it's cheaper for libraries because they aren't purchasing physical copies of the audiobooks and don't have to worry about scratched/missing discs.Your library has to be part of the system though, so maybe next time you're there, ask them if they have eAudiobooks available.
It would be "better" because it would be FREE! I, for one, can't freaking figure the program out, so I'll just keep getting audiobooks on CD from the library.
Gotcha. I was under the impression that OverDrive is software that is used to catalog and provide downloads for the audio collection. My old library had two different collections -- one of them was managed through OverDrive and the other through some other systems (perhaps Oneclick, though I never really paid attention). I've moved and my current library has a few collections as well, but none of them seem to be managed by OneClick. One is definitely managed through OverDrive.
It sounded like OneClick was some sort of service like Audible, but now I understand it's just the software your library uses for digital downloads.
Chrissie, your library probably offers some sort of digital download collection, and you'll need to first download a small piece of free software to download books from their service to your computer. It might be OneClick, it might be OverDrive, it might be something else. You'd have to check with the library to find out what they use. The information is probably on their website.
Chrissie wrote: "When I started at Audible they set my system up via Itunes..... Do you mean there is another way of getting the books from Audible over to my Ipod?"**If** you have an iPod touch, with Wifi, or if you have an iPhone, then you can download your books directly from Audible into your iPod without going through iTunes and your computer at all. But obviously that won't work if you have a variety of iPod that has no connection to the internet.
I have both an iPod touch AND an iPhone, but I still always use iTunes for my book transfers. I've got lots and lots of books, and it's not only faster for me but also much easier to keep the books organized if I do it this way.
Regan, I have no library with English audio books because I currently live in Europe. Contrarius, my Ipod touch has no WiFi connection, and I don't think it has any connection with the internet. I am a little bit unsure. I will ask..... I have always used a USB cord when I download from Itunes. I do not live in the US. There is a huge difference between what is available for you and what is available over here in Europe. The situation is in fact different in every country.
I am using Itunes with my Ipod and have only bought books from Audible. John said Itunes might let me rip CDs, i.e. get a CD book on to my Ipod. Do you know if I can buy a book in CD format and get it on to my Ipod without internet connection, just using a USB cable and Itunes? And will my Ipod continue to keep track of where I am and let me do the 30 second rewinds?

You can certainly import a book from CD to your computer, and from there to your iPod -- and it's not even hard to do. And it'll work just like any other audiobook once you get it to the iPod, depending on what app you're using to listen to books with.
If you use a Mac, I can help you with the details. But if you're on a PC, you'll have to work it out without me!
nope they are WMA - because my library seems to have those more frequently than MP3 ones...in like a 4:1 ratio...unless it is because you are downloading through the overdrive app...whereas, I use it on my computer and then go to my itouch...maybe that is it?
Heidi wrote: "Dee wrote: "weird - I just loaded 2 WMA ones onto my ipod...someone in another group mentioned they had issues too with that"

Dee - I mean I can only download mp3 audiobooks straight from the Overdrive app to my ipod touch without using the computer. For WMA audiobooks I have to sync my ipod touch with my PC and use the Overdrive Media Console to sync it. This process takes a lot longer than syncing with my phone or sansa -- that is what I was talking about. I am trying to be clear here but seem to be confusing you???? Hope you get what I am saying now. I am guessing the process doesn't seem as long to people who have only ever used ipods or iphones with their Overdrive.
yeah, that makes sense - I don't use the overdrive app on my itouch...I just do everything via the computer - hardly takes any time for me - I plug it in at night move anything over and then charge it and i'm good to go in the mornings
it does seem exceptionally dumb that you can listen to WMA's on your touch etc that you download through the computer app, but not directly...
Dee wrote: "it does seem exceptionally dumb that you can listen to WMA's on your touch etc that you download through the computer app, but not directly..."Agreed :) If it disappears after your check out time I don't know why you can't just directly download it via an app. Who knows!!
p.s. I think if you used another device with Overdrive your would find the ipod download process a lot slower but I am a crazy woman who puts audiobooks on my sansa, phone, and ipod all the time!! I should probably just be more patient. :)
doing it via my computer I have to physically delete the files from my itouch, they don't just automatically disappear
Dee wrote: "doing it via my computer I have to physically delete the files from my itouch, they don't just automatically disappear"Yeah that is a nice benefit of downloading it right to your ipod. I do like to use the actual Overdrive App though because it has a sleep timer on it (like Audible) and I listen to audiobooks before I go to sleep so I just have to listen to an MP3 audiobook in the app. No biggie - it would just be nice to have a bigger selection to listen to while I sleep but they are free so who am I to complain :)
ahh, yeah, I don't listen when I sleep...I'd never remember anything...often at nights I need to go back and re-read what I had read previously to make sure I didn't miss anything
Speaking of sleep timers - I have read several places that there is a sleep timer on the ipod touch but I have yet to figure it out. I have checked the entire settings area on it with no luck. Anyone use the sleep timer on the ipod touch??
Heidi wrote: "Anyone use the sleep timer on the ipod touch?? "I use an audiobook player called "Audiobook and Podcast Player" on my iPod Touch, and it has a very good sleep timer. The Audible app also has a sleep timer, though I don't like it as much.
I don't *think* the native Music app has one, though.
Dee wrote: "doing it via my computer I have to physically delete the files from my itouch, they don't just automatically disappear"I think this is a bonus of downloading through the computer. I don't always get to audiobooks before the expiration time.

I think she meant that it was a bonus :) At least that is how I took it!

Oh oh oh! Is that an app you downloaded?? I must get it! I mean for gosh sakes my $25 sansa even has a sleep timer!
Regina wrote: "I think this is a bonus of downloading through the computer. I don't always get to audiobooks before the expiration time. "Me neither. I usually have between 20-30 audibooks from the library and just listen to them when it's convenient for me. Soon I'll be celebrating the first birthday for A Game of Thrones (it's been on my iPod for almost a year.)
Heidi wrote: "Oh oh oh! Is that an app you downloaded?? I must get it! I mean for gosh sakes my $25 sansa even has a sleep timer! "Yes, you can get it through the iTunes app store. It's got a free version, but you really want to pay the $2.99 for the full version. I use that app for all my audiobooks. I prefer it to Audible's app, and it's much better IMHO than using the native Music app that comes with the pod or phone. It'll play any format I've tried so far, and it has good features.
The one thing it will NOT do, which some people like (I never used it anyway) is speed up the book. But I like the sleep timer better than Audible's, and it's got good jump-back-or-forward features (10 sec, 1 min, 10 min, plus an infinitely adjustable slider) and even a "time travel" feature (you can tell it to go back to wherever you were at a specific time in the past). And of course it always remembers where you left off in a book the last time you were listening, even if you've listened to other books in the meantime.

I am so excited about this app!! Thanks so much for all the info. I'll look for it tonight when I get home :)
Chris wrote: "Sara ♥ wrote: "My library (I'm in UK) has One Click Digital and it has to be one of the most temperamental systems ever. I FINALLY got the program to work, but my mp3 player (which I won't bring up in the Apple thread, since it's made by the enemy) isn't compatible (of course), and the software wouldn't just play the dang thing (couldn't ever get it to start), so I just deleted it. My library system has a HUGE collection of audiobooks on CD, so I'll keep going that direction.

OK Sara, so let me see if I understand your downloading borrowed books and are having a hard time putting them on your ipod? or is it paid books? Your ipod us or uk should accept mp3 or wma format if it's not than the first place I would look is in your itunes settings and see if you have all the different formats listed with itunes being the default. To answer whether or not you can copy borrowed books/audiobooks the answer is a yes with a big but! If you don't know what you're doing than it's not as simple as copying a file and burning it. if this doesn't help lmk i'm a wee bit of a nerd and may be able to help some more. Also I have tons of digital audiobooks I could loan you, msg me if want to know more :)

Heidi
I am a bit confused. My library offers both Overdrive and OneClick. Books available for downloading from Overdrive - 57. Books available for downloading from OneClick - several hundred.
Maybe it's how each library wishes to participate, I don't know. The selection in Overdrive via my library is very meger.
Kyle every Overdrive library differs from library to library - my library has hundreds of audiobooks and ebooks for me to check out. You can actually check the Overdrive website to see what content they have and request your library purchase it - I do that often. Here is the website http://search.overdrive.com/I am guessing almost and recent title you can think of is listed on it. You can join the Philly Free Library for $35 per year even if you aren't a resident and use their Overdrive. I did that last year and used it all the time -- you can go to their website and search their catalog if you want to see if they have anything you want first. http://freelibrary.lib.overdrive.com/...
Hope that all makes sense!

Very helpful and informative. Thanks.
Chrissie wrote: "Heidi wrote: "Kyle every Overdrive library differs from library to library - my library has hundreds of audiobooks and ebooks for me to check out. You can actually check the Overdrive website to ..."Yup.
Chrissie wrote: "Regan, I have no library with English audio books because I currently live in Europe. are you sure about that....I live in Denmark and they have thousands of english audio books, now I just find them online and which ever library has them sends them tp my local library (no charge)....we don't get so many of the newest ones due to cut backs though, but still plenty to choose from.
My libraries use Overdrive too and they have thousands of audios/ebooks available. One of them has even a good collection in Spanish so it definitely depends on the library system.
The Spanish books I've run across seem largely abridged, or kids' books. I have gotten a couple of decent ones at Audible though.
John wrote: "The Spanish books I've run across seem largely abridged, or kids' books. The other day I found The Shadow of the Wind which I've been wanting to read in Spanish.
