Ally (ally1604) | 58 comments I've joined in before but haven't read much at all since my dad passed away last January. I want to get back into my old habit of averaging a book a week so I thought this would be a good way to encourage me to do that, and I'd like to complete all the 5 and 10 point tasks as a minimum! I am also aiming to only use books that I already own for the tasks, as I have bookshelves full, most read, some unread, and about 400 unread on my Kindle! Good luck everyone :)

message 252: by [deleted user] (new)

Last challenge I wanted to complete all the 30 point challenges- and I met that goal :-) So this time I'm going to challenge myself to get more than 800 points (I don't think I'll complete the challenge- I'm pulling a lot of extra shifts at work this summer).

message 253: by [deleted user] (new)

Since the Fall Challenge is right around the corner , I thought I'd ask if any of you guys have new goals for this one ?

My goal will be to beat my own record from the Summer Challenge .

How about you guys ?

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments My goal is 12 books for the season and 100 points. My aim is low because I am in other challenges. Also to stay off the wall of shame.

message 255: by btwthesepages (new)

btwthesepages | 71 comments I'm doing this for the first time so my only goal is to finish the challenge.

message 256: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) It's my first time doing this and my September is crazy busy, so I think my goal is to just have fun, but hopefully I'll be reading close to 30 books! I'm really hoping I'm able to pull it off, but we'll see :)

message 257: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 421 comments I definitely want to stay off the Wall of Shame this time!

I like the idea of trying to complete all the tasks in a point number, like the 5s, 10s and 30s....

message 258: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments well, there is going to be the new 20 pointer for completing all the 5 and 10 point tasks - starting not next season but the one after

message 259: by Meghan (new)

Meghan (meghanly) | 336 comments I think I am going to try and complete all of the ONE-BOOK tasks.

Also... I hate seeing my name as a screw-up on the Wall of Shame, so of course I will be checking and rechecking before I post each time! :)

Happy Challenge, everyone!

message 260: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) My ultimate goal for this season is to read MORE. My reading time has decreased due to my job and other real life issues LOL.

In order to meet my ultimate goal of reading more I think I am going to try to finish the 5,10 and 15 point tasks first.

THEN if I still I have time, I will start on the remaining tasks.

Have a great challenge everyone and happy reading to you all :)

message 261: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 786 comments I managed to stay off the wall of shame for the summer challenge (yes!) but I didn't complete the challenge either, which was a disappointment for me. Just too much real life in the way.

I'm going to finish it for Fall - mostly because I really want to clear my TBR shelves!

message 262: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (ladybugh) | 286 comments I didn't post my goal for the summer challenge but it was to get 50% of the points and I made it!! I still have two more books to finish though to squeak in two more tasks.

For the Fall Challenge - I will be again shooting for 50%. It will be difficult though as I work full time and will be taking a u. course that has a hefty reading list.

message 263: by Lindy-Lane (new)

Lindy-Lane (moonbacklit) | 567 comments my goal is to complete at least 30 tasks. and to enjoy the experience.

message 264: by Deana (new)

Deana (ablotial) | 276 comments I'm so torn on this challenge, whether to do the usual strategy or to shoot for the "nickels and dimes". I don't have as much time to read as many of the people here, so there is no chance I will ever FINISH a challenge...

I usually average between 13-17 books in a challenge, but I try to read longer books and go for the big book tickets. And I try to do the 15/20/30 point tasks.

But I think if I were to focus on REGULAR sized books instead of BIG books, I would have a chance at completing all 20 of the 5 and 10 pointers.

Decisions decisions...

message 265: by Rita (new)

Rita My goal is to clear my TBR shelf of some books!! And enjoy myself.

message 266: by Cheri (new)

Cheri (jovali2) I have many other reading obligations (book clubs, courses), so my goal here is to give myself permission to read things I really want to. My to-read list is so long that I don't even remember what's on it, so I'm going through the tasks and matching them to my list. It's been fun to re-discover things I put on a few years ago and never got to!

message 267: by LouLouReads (new)

LouLouReads | 221 comments I'd like to get 250 points, read almost entirely books that I already own, and read at least one book in German :)

message 268: by Pamela Su (new)

Pamela Su (thebluebaroness) | 247 comments OH NUTS! I forgot the challenge ended in August. >.<

I shall do better this round!

message 269: by Johanna (new)

Johanna (demurefairy) | 22 comments My goal is to read as many books as possible from my TBR shelf

message 270: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm working on reading the classic novel list in The Well Educated Mind by Susan Wise Bauer, so my path is already laid out for me. I'm currently reading Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, followed by The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy, The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, and The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane. This is my first challenge, so I'll be trying to get as many points as possible for these books (and more if I get to them) and using that number as a benchmark for next time! I can already see that Anna Karenina will fit into Task 26.5, Option 5: a book written between 1815 and 1914. If anyone enjoys working out the puzzle of how to maximize scores, please have at it. :)

In general, the 20 point tasks give you the most points per book (20/book). Then the 1 book 15 pointers and the 30 pointers (15/book). Then the 25 pointers (12.5/book). Then 10 pointers (10/book), 2 book 15 pointers (7.5/book), finally 5 pointers.

message 272: by Diane (new)

Diane (didi3023) | -18 comments My personal challenge is to read through the rules and understand how to do the challenge. One step at a time, you know...

message 273: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd just like to check a few books of the TBR list by the end of the year, and this looks like a really fun way to do it!

message 274: by Beth F (new)

Beth F | 669 comments My usual goal is to either improve my score from the previous challenge or read a higher number of books. However, the last challenge I participated in was fall 2012 and I only reported one book—talk about a boring challenge to overcome!

Using my personal src-challenge shelves I decided to calculate some averages. I discovered that I finished approximately 27 books during the fall challenges from 2009-2012.

So that’s my number to beat. I aim to finish 28 books for Fall 2014!

message 275: by Jessie (new)

Jessie This is my first challenge -- I love this idea. Before I launch into my goals -- how do people actually finish this?!?! I don't think I could do it if all I did was read. I'm super impressed with you all!

OK -- my goals are to read as much as possible since this is my first challenge, I have no metric on points.

I'm currently in the midst of a personal goal to curb book buying until I've read more of what we own, so I'm trying to get as many tasks completed as possible with the books we own.

message 276: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 786 comments My personal goal is never to actually buy a book that I can borrow from the library or check out on SCRIBD. I love the feel of real books, and I look at returning a just read book to the library as the ultimate recycling.

I DO own books - quite a few - but the kind of stuff that I keep on my personal shelves are reference type books.

message 277: by Peebee (new)

Peebee | 481 comments I love this challenge so much, that I think with the last challenge, I met all my goals. I have:

*finished early/written 30-point task
*finished/written 25-point task
*written 20-point task (Moderator's Pet -- staying off the Wall of Shame will probably never happen again!)
*finished first at the midpoint/written 50-point task
*Top 3 at midpoint/picked a Group Reads category
*Top 20 at midpoint/nominated a book

So unless I become a moderator, I've pretty much covered it. I guess my goal could be to be the fastest finisher (to write Task 30.1) but often how fast I progress is out of my hands with work and personal schedules.

message 278: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (_lindsey_) | 498 comments Congrats on all the accomplishments, Peebee! Maybe the challenge will continue to grow with different things to achieve eventually.

message 279: by SamZ (new)

SamZ (samwisezbrown) My goal for this challenge is to have fewer books at the end of it on my to-read shelf rather than more! As of now I have 1051...

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments Ummmm, that goal may be difficult since I added books to my TBR list since I joined in October 2009.

message 281: by SamZ (new)

SamZ (samwisezbrown) Yeah, it seems to me that for every one book I read off my list, I add at least 3 more!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments My Goodreads TBR list has 705 books on it. That includes the ones I own and the ones I added since I been here.

message 283: by Julie (new)

Julie I organize my shelves a little bit differently.

I have a To Read shelf for books that I actually own (921). I created a Wishlist shelf for books that catch my eye on here and would someday like to read (2663).

There's no way I'll ever get to all of them!

message 284: by Bea (new)

Bea Julie, I like the wishlist shelf idea. I also have a GR Recommends shelf and a Friends Recommends shelf.

message 285: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenia) | 1119 comments Winter 2014-15 is my first SRC so I'm aiming for 300 points. I'm having so much fun with this and definitely reading more than ever! I have six books going at once...the problem becomes deciding which one I want to read when I have a free minute!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I have a hard time reading three books at once.

message 287: by Donna (new)

Donna | 1271 comments I have found that setting goals for reading challenges are irrelevant. I am like a dog with a bone on these types of challenges. It totally takes over and consumes my life. My husband and my kids know to steer-clear when I have a book open. Reading is an addiction for me. I only have room for one addiction at a time in my life. In the spring, it is usually gardening, so I wonder if I can combine the two.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments You mean read while you garden? A book in one hand and a spade in the other?

message 289: by Teri-K (new)

Teri-K I took this challenge to see how big a dent I could make in my TBR piles/lists by forcing myself to use those books first. I calculate that 59 of the books I read for it were TBRs, so I feel pretty good about that.

message 290: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiabaxter) | 4 comments My goal is to at least get half the total points! [*snort...lol]

message 291: by Bouchra (new)

Bouchra Rebiai (bouchrarebiai) | 97 comments I haven't been in the challenge since Summer 2013, and I look forward to doing two this year.

My aim for Spring 2015 is to get 500 points, as I'm pretty busy this spring with work.

I also want to keep myself off the Wall of Shame ... let's see how this works out :)

message 292: by Beth (new)

Beth Robinson (bethrobinson) After not reading much the second half of 2014, I started using Goodreads in January. I discovered the challenge then and tested the waters with fitting a few books in.

I want to complete the challenge in Spring 2015.

Except I haven't read that many books in a three month time period since I was in college, so this will be different! Especially since it already includes books I would have never read otherwise and the tasks aren't all posted yet.

It will be fun to see what happens.

message 293: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 64 comments My goal for the Spring Challenge is to not have any errors in my postings! In my first challenge I had none, but the last two I seem to make errors left, right and centre. So I am going to be extra, extra careful this time and hope not to find my name in the errors thread...

message 294: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) This (Spring 2015) is my first challenge with the group. Really looking forward to it.

My primary goal is to reduce my TBR so most of the books I'm using are ones that I already have. My secondary goal is to see how many tasks I can complete this first time.

Good luck, everyone!

message 295: by Teresa Jo (new)

Teresa Jo (teresajo) | 246 comments I was just under 70% of the total points for the Winter challenge so my goal this time is to (1) complete the challenge or (2) achieve higher than 70% of the points possible.

message 296: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (vicki_c) Victoria C

To do better than I did in the Winter Challenge (my first). I earned only 175 points out of 1000+. One issue I had was too much reading that wasn't in my Winter Challenge plans - things became available from the library and I spent time reading those. Also, I had a number of "two book" tasks of which I only read one book, for multiple reasons. I'm going to try and avoid that issue. I see now I will never get close to 1000+ points in 3 months - I just don't have the time, but would like to improve on my past showing.

I'd better get planning though - have barely looked at the Task List so far.

message 297: by Pat (new)

Pat (peakles) | 145 comments Peakles

My goal is to complete all of the 30-point tasks early, and to surpass 500 points this time. I also hope to have zero errors!

message 298: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenia) | 1119 comments I'm going for zero errors and improving my score over Winter. The Winter challenge was my first and I got 395 points (my goal was to get 300 so happy with my first showing!) This time I'd like to get at least 50% of the points so 520, I believe.

message 299: by LouLouReads (new)

LouLouReads | 221 comments I aim to get over 400 points this year, and hopefully no errors :-)

message 300: by Papermaker (new)

Papermaker | 144 comments My goals are no errors. And close 500 pst this time.
