Ana | 410 comments My Goals for the Summer 2013 Challenge

1. Stay of Wall of Shame
2. I would really like to finish the challenge. If I don't I want at least 630 points a hundred more than last time.
3. Stick to my plan

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments My library book was due back last Wednesday. It is ouverdue by 4 days because I am not done reading it. :)

message 203: by Robyn (new)

Robyn yep i bring in an actual book bag and load up on the free books. i feel like the librarians in my little library are all knowing so they must know about my book hoarding habbits lol. i realize they dont know or even really care but still it would be nice to be able to return a stack of fully read books next time around

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments My library only allows 14 days for new books.

message 205: by Jayme Pendergraft (new)

Jayme Pendergraft | 762 comments So I guess you're all saying the 14 books I have checked out right now are a good thing :)

My goals for this challenge are to:

1. Finish half
2. Read only books I already have/are from the library. I have a TON of books to get through on my ipod too.

I know I won't come close to finishing but it'll be fun to try.

message 206: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments I'm keeping it simple this go round:
1. 500 points
2. Stay off the "wall of shame"

message 207: by Megan (new)

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments 1. No Wall-o'-Shame

2. Read mostly books I already own (more than 75%)

3. Enjoy the books I read (and if I hate one, don't feel bad and keep reading--I'll be okay if I discard it)

4. Finish! :D

message 208: by Coralie (new)

Coralie My aim is to finish which will be quite a challenge as it will take an extra two books per week above my comfort zone.

I wish I would have discarded a couple of books I read last challenge. I might have gotten a lot more points.

message 210: by Aleksandra (new)

Aleksandra (aleksandrakonwa) | 752 comments My main goal is to stay away from "wall of shame" and complete all 30 points tasks and 25 points tasks (for the first time I see so many tasks in 25)
BUt the most important is to enjoy reading:)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments There are 20 tasks in the 25 point value.

message 212: by Bea (new)

Bea Sandy wrote: "I'm a heavy library user, and one of the librarians told me that they really appreciate it - the circulation numbers show that the libraries are used, and help to keep them open. So, whether you actually read the books you check out or not, you're doing a community service by checking out books, LOL!"

I had a similar experience at my library. I was not sure which of two Abraham Lincoln books were on my challenge plan. When I voiced that thought, the librarian suggested I take both since it helped with the usage statistics.

message 213: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 910 comments My goals are to find as many new authors as I can find to fit each challenge. If I can't find something new to read, to enjoy one of my favorite rereads.

message 214: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (goodreadscomboddy_l) | 69 comments This is the first time I have tried this challenge and I'm involved in several others, in different GR groups. I think I can manage 200 points, if not more. Better to start low, I think. My other goal is to make all of my posts correctly, and avoid that WALL OF SHAME everyone mentions. Additionally, I am trying to use books from other challenges, in this one.

Looking forward to making lots of new friends! Am a retired elementary teacher from Canada.

message 215: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments I have been doing this challenge off and on since just around when it was created. And in all this time, I have never gotten over 500 points (I am not even sure I have gotten over 300 or 400). This is probably the wrong time to be so ambitious (since one of my younger sisters is going to get married at the end of December and I am the wedding coordinator), but my official goal is to get over 500 points. And also, not to quit after one month.

message 216: by Angela (new)

Angela | 919 comments I have not participated in this challenge in a few years because it became to daunting for me and I found myself reading books to complete a certain challenge that I had no interest in reading. I have completed the challenge one time in the past and my goal this time around is complete it for a second time. I am looking forward to being active in the challenge again and have been planning my "plan" of action to get it done in time! Cannot wait for September 1st :)

message 217: by Ana (new)

Ana | 410 comments 1. My goal is to get over 600 points. I didn't do so well over the summer.
2. Stay off the wall of shame. I was so close last time.

message 218: by Anne (Booklady) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 754 comments 1. My goal is to finish the Fall Season. So I will not be reviewing every book that I will read for the Fall Season.
2. Stay off the Wall of Shame.
3. Use all of my owned books and refrain from buying some.

message 219: by Kathy G. (new)

Kathy G. | 1931 comments I have to hold back on buying books, too.
Man, do I COLLECT!!!
I want to beat my high of 525 from the season before.
I couldn't do it this time. Life got in
the way too much!!!

message 220: by Megan (new)

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments I've only bought one book for this season specifically, but it's a book I'll want to own anyway. Two of the others I've had on preorder forever, so those don't count. Most of my books are from the library, so that's not too bad.

My main goal is to finish by November so I can do NaNoWriMo again this year. No Wall-o'-Shame, too, of course, but that's standard, and finishing...well, that goes without saying! lol

Only about half an hour left before we can get cracking on a new season!

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 855 comments My personal best is 380 points (Fall 12). I would really like to beat that total this season, even if it's only 5 points more. I'm being cautiously optimistic about this because I'm going to my parent's for Thanksgiving and might not get the opportunity for some last minute cramming.

This being the case, my secondary goal is to have 350 by 22 November -- even if I don't get much reading in over the holiday, it's still more points than this summer (335 points)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I reached my goal of staying off the wall of shame. I am going to try to complete 10 tasks and reach 250 points.

message 223: by Laurel (last edited Aug 31, 2013 09:45PM) (new)

Laurel (goodreadscomboddy_l) | 69 comments This will be my second challenge. I am aiming for 300 points, now that I have a better idea of how the challenge works, and how to plan my reading, even though I am doing a lot of knitting for a grandchild expected in November! I will still be entering posts as Laurel CA.

message 224: by Lacy (new)

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 161 comments This is my first challenge with this group and I'm just trying to learn the rules and not make any mistakes!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments Make sure you read the requirements carefully before you post the tasks. This keeps you off the wall of shame.

message 226: by Bec (new)

Bec (foreverfnm) | 132 comments Revisiting my goals from "Summer";
1. Stay off the wall of shame - DONE
2. Earn at least 350 points. - Got a PB with 460
3. Stick to my plan - DONE
4. Read all library books before returning them. - Didn't get through two.

Goals for "Fall", "Autumn" & "Aussie Spring"
1. Stay off the wall o' shame.
2. Earn 500 points.
3. Complete all the 20 & 30 point tasks.
4. Read more on kindle.

message 227: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (kheleyr) | 120 comments My goal is to do better in the Fall Challenge than I did in the Spring Challenge (must break the 500 point barrier! and no posting mistakes) and ultimately to complete a challenge (it will happen!...just not sure when.

message 228: by Jolie (new)

Jolie | 53 comments 1. Score more points than I did in Summer Challenge 2013 (315)
2. Read at least two books that have been on my TBR list for more than a year
3. Increase my reading in science fiction and speculative fiction—two genres that I rarely explore

message 229: by ilona (new)

ilona (svaubajkama) | 34 comments I'll try to make 150 points at least. That would be ok for my first chalenge here. I have 18 months old boy, and examination term at University during 2 of 3 months. So.. :)

message 230: by Julie (new)

Julie This is my first time participating in this challenge.

I would like to score at least 250 points, and it would be nice to not have any of my Completed Tasks posts show up on the Problem Discussion!

message 231: by Anne (Booklady) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 754 comments I did my personal best last season, so I'll try to beat it. And I made the Wall of Shame last season, too - I'm an idiot! So no Wall of Shame this season!

message 232: by Deana (new)

Deana (ablotial) | 276 comments I did my personal best in the fall as well -- rather than trying to beat that goal, I think I am going to try to focus on big books. Get a bunch of those out of the way during this season, and maybe have the most big book tickets on the readerboard :)

message 233: by Setalpgninnpsekil (new)

Setalpgninnpsekil | 51 comments This will be my first challenge with this group, and because there are so many options, I think I'm going to use it as a way to read an entire series. I would like to read all of the James Bond novels this season.

message 234: by Julie (new)

Julie Looks like I am going to be a bit short of my goal from Winter Challenge. So I guess my goal for Spring will be the same as it was for Winter.....to score 250 points or better!

message 235: by [deleted user] (new)

My goal for Spring is to complete all the 30 point challenges- I haven't managed to do that yet :-)

message 236: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 151 comments I've just started a new job, therefore I don't think that I will have a lot of time for reading.
My goal for the Spring Challenge is to read only books that I own and I want to try to read at least twenty.

That is a really good goal Natalie! I have so many books on my shelves at home, but I continuously check out books from the library. I am going to try & read mostly books I own as well. I am going to shoot for 80% of the points I earn to be owned books. Thanks for the idea!

message 238: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 151 comments Julie wrote: " I have so many books on my shelves at home, but I continuously check out books from the library. ..."

same here :)

I have an entire bookshelf waiting to be read and yet I can't pass by the library without taking some more books home...

message 239: by Pamela Su (new)

Pamela Su (thebluebaroness) | 247 comments My goal for the Spring Challenge is to not get distracted by reading too many non-challenge-related books. Haha.

Eepa *mm loving bookworm* (eepa) | 187 comments Pamela Su wrote: "My goal for the Spring Challenge is to not get distracted by reading too many non-challenge-related books. Haha."

Every book can be put into challenge if it's long enough to qualify. It's just the amount of shuffling that increases with every unplanned read. ;)

message 241: by Pamela Su (last edited Mar 01, 2014 03:33AM) (new)

Pamela Su (thebluebaroness) | 247 comments Trust me, Eepa. Those extra books were my downfall near the end of the challenge. :)

Once most of my tasks were filled up, there's less wiggle room to move books around (even if I were to take previously completed tasks and re-shuffle) or randomly fit books in.

The last month was when I started wandering off and reading other books that couldn't fit in the remaining tasks.

message 242: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 910 comments My goal really doesn't change from challenge to challenge - to read as many books that fit into the challenge and enjoy them all. These challenges make me stretch to enjoy new genres, authors each time.

Eepa *mm loving bookworm* (eepa) | 187 comments I was very lucky last time and could fit pretty much every qualifying book I read into the challenge. And I learned that if I wanted to get the more boring non-fiction books or any non-ebooks read I have to multi task and read something from my kindle during the day and then get to my non-ebook books in the evening when I'm home. Or read in small doses so I don't get bored to death. =D

message 244: by Asho (new)

Asho | 181 comments I think this is my 16th season doing the challenge! My point totals are usually pretty low because I have a toddler who keeps me busy. I'm thinking setting goals for spring might help.
1) Read all 4 of the books that I currently have borrowed from other people and fit them into the challenge somehow.
2) Read only books that I already own but haven't read yet (there are so many of these...many were my husband's from before we met, but still!).
3) Read 9 books total. That's only 3 a month (which is nothing compared to what many of you get through during the challenge!). I do read some really long books--The Game of Thrones series has been killing my points totals here--but I know I can average better than the 2 a month I did the past few challenges.

message 245: by Amber (new)

Amber (ambersworld08) I want to set some goals for myself :) Keep me pumped and going even though I really don't need it seeing as this is my first time participating and I am stoked!

1) Read at least 2 NEW to me books a month= I am a single mom to 2 young kiddos so, I am trying to be realistic :(

2) I don't know much about all this yet but, I saw something about a Wall Of Shame??? I definitely don't want to be on that so I will do what I need to do to stay off it :)

I know I will end up having more goals once I learn more about how all this works exactly ;)

message 246: by Bea (new)

Bea Goals for Aptil:

1. Finish Les Miserables.

2. Complete Beloved.

3. Read the second book of two book tasks I have started by end of March.

4. Read two of my short books.

message 247: by Pamela Su (new)

Pamela Su (thebluebaroness) | 247 comments My original goal was to do the challenge without any mistakes...that flopped almost instantly. Shouldn't post when sleepy! *grumble*

message 248: by Julie (new)

Julie My original goal was to score higher than last time, but that is definitely not going to happen!

You know how it is.....so many books, so little time :(

message 249: by [deleted user] (new)

My goal is to have fun ! No pressure to get a big score, just have fun and make some Book Friends .

message 250: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (goodreadscomboddy_l) | 69 comments LAUREL CA

I needed a break, so I skipped the Spring Challenge, and plan to participate in the Summer one, & will continue to use my current reader board name. Looking to have some fun, and use up some of the huge backlog of TBR book list I have.
