Alicia (amazingact21) | 127 comments For the Summer challenge, my goal was reach 250 points; I made it to 235. So close!

I think for the Fall Challenge, I'll keep the same personal goal and see if I can reach it this time around. I'm waiting for midnight to arrive so I can begin reading the book I have!

message 152: by Chaitra (new)

Chaitra (chaitra_ganesh) | 518 comments This will be my second SRC. I had no goals for Summer at all, not even to stay off the wall of shame. I finished the SRC and stayed off the wall. So, I think not having any goals works for me. :)

Two things I did wrong with Summer that I want to correct this time:

1. Not to read too many extra books between this and the million other challenges I keep accepting.
2. Start with striking off the low point tasks first. It was agony when I would finish a big book and see my points crawling from 930 to 935 during the last couple of weeks. I can take that during the first weeks of the challenge.

message 153: by [deleted user] (new)

This will be my 2nd one too. I hope to:

1. Stay off the wall of shame.
2. Reach at least 400 points (got to 325 this time).
3. Read at least 5 non-fiction books. I always want to read these but end up reading fiction instead.
4. Read at least 15 books off my tbr pre-2012 list.
5. Read at least 15 new authors.

message 154: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 587 comments For Fall I would like to:

1. Stay off the wall of shame!
2. Reach 650 points (I got 640 in Summer).
3. Read 45 books (I read 44 in Summer, my record is 51).
4. Stick to my reading plan! I hate having to shift books around mid-challenge, or not fitting a book I've read into the challenge.

message 155: by Carma (new)

Carma | 28 comments Since Fall 2012 is going to be the first challenge that I have tried in a long time, I am going back to basics.
1. Get at least 300 points.
2. Find a way to get my bookclub books to fit the challenge.
3. Find a way to get some of my already downloaded e-books fit into the challenge.
4. Create a plausible reading plan. (Even for the points that I may not get done)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments I wasn't going to set any personal goals this time around, but after a day and a half of reading, I may have to set one criteria--no more depressing books! Especially on rainy days.

message 157: by Riya (new)

Riya (riyaishere) | 188 comments My Fall Challenge Goals

1. Get at least 425 points.

2. Complete at least 7 of the 20-point tasks.

3. Complete the 50-point task.

message 158: by Julie (new)

Julie Copeland | 5 comments My personal goal is to get involved in this, my first, challenge. Learning all the rules and then enjoy reading some wonderful books!

message 159: by Jenifer (new)

Jenifer (jensamaha) | 355 comments Well, last season (summer) was my first doing the challenge. I scored 165 points but probably could have scored a bit more if I'd been more organized.

So, it's not a huge goal but for the fall challenge, I want to score at least 200pts. :)

message 160: by Ally (new)

Ally (ally1604) | 58 comments Wow I've been really rubbish the last couple of weeks, life is getting in the way of my reading!

message 161: by Riya (new)

Riya (riyaishere) | 188 comments Don't get discouraged Ally - I felt like that too during my second seasonal challenge. Don't stress out and start reading again as soon as you get time to do so, even if you only have a few weeks left until the challenge's end date.

message 162: by Ally (new)

Ally (ally1604) | 58 comments Thanks Mariya, glad it's not just me! I'm reading a few pages whenever I can fit it in and hopefully I'll get a chance to get back into reading properly soon, I usually finish a book in one or two sittings, so frustrating! :)

This is my first SRC challenge and so far I'm really liking it. I am getting ready to go back to work and I imagine life is going to start getting in the way of my reading too. Don't get frustrated you'll get back to your reading sooner than you think ☺

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments My goal to read fewer than 15 library books failed (darn you, Kindle, for conking out on me at school and forcing me to go down to the library!), BUT I did primarily use books I owned. I think I did manage to keep the total of library books under 20, so I guess it's not that bad. In the past, I've used tons of them >_>

Anyway, I think its "New-Task Day" today! Yay! Hopefully SOMETHING I've read since Monday will work >_>

I have been saying for a couple of months that I'm going to use less and less library books and start reading from my Kindle/Own bookshelves for all of my challenges.....haven't managed to do that yet....the library keeps calling my name lol☺

GL to you!!!!

message 166: by mstan (last edited Nov 30, 2012 04:41PM) (new)

mstan | 868 comments For the winter challenge, my goal is not to finish the challenge. I've actually not been reading 'big books' too often because one of my previous goals has usually been to finish the challenge. I'm going to read War and Peace this time, or try to! Also, I'd like to try to write reviews for all the books I read... and still stay out of the problem thread.

I am also saying this because I think there'll be tons of tasks for winter and it may be more stressful for me to try to finish then! (Also, while I do try to read outside my comfort zone, there are a couple of tasks it'd be really difficult for me to try to finish, like the one on US presidents.)

Coralie mstan wrote: "For the winter challenge, my goal is not to finish the challenge. I've actually not been reading 'big books' too often because one of my previous goals has usually been to finish the challenge. I'm..."

I am also planning to read more big books and not to finish. I am going to start with only reading books I really want to read or tasks that I really like. However they are predicting a long hot summer so I will have plenty of reading time when it's too hot to do anything else and might be able to fit a few others in as well.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) mstan wrote: "For the winter challenge, my goal is not to finish the challenge. I've actually not been reading 'big books' too often because one of my previous goals has usually been to finish the challenge. I'm..."

I try to read outside of my comfort zone too, but I agree with you on the task about the Presidents. During my planning for the Winter challenge I looked at book after book to try to find something I might enjoy on the Presidents but it was an epic fail. Politics or anything related to politics is just not something I'm interested in as I get bored with it. I ran across Angels Don't Die: My Father's Gift of Faith at the library a few days ago and that's what I'm reading for that task...I don't know if I will enjoy it or not but I'm going to try lol.

One of my goals for this challenge is:

IF it's a 2 or more book task read both books for that task back to back. During the fall challenge I would read one book for a 2 book task and then move on to another task and then have to go back and pick up the second books. I want to work on one task at a time instead of working on several at a time ☺

I'm a mood reader so I ALWAYS have more than one book started. The last couple of weeks of the fall challenge I had a bunch of half read books to finish for the challenge. This time I hope to start and finish a book before I start another one LOL. But habits like that are sometimes hard to break.

I would like to finish the challenge but if I don't it's ok. My main goal is to read and enjoy what I can for the challenge. I also would like to keep up a little bit better with what everyone else is reading as I saw some really interesting books during the fall challenge and should have added them/looked into them more then because I have forgotten now what they were.

message 169: by Bea (last edited Mar 03, 2013 03:52AM) (new)

Bea My goals:

1. Stay off the "Wall of Shame". I found that I ended up on it this past season only because I made stupid mistakes in posting - posted one task twice and messed up my total points a couple of times. I can do better than that. Missed

2. Beat my all-time previous high score (660). This last season was my worst for points - 360. I would like to aim for at least half the point total for the season but, if I reach 665, that will beat my best score since joining SRC. I beat last season's total with 425
.
3. Complete two book tasks before starting another two book task. The challenge will be when I have to wait for a library book. Yet I can improve that issue by requesting the library book when I first start reading the other book of the task. Missed. Ended with one two book challenge uncompleted, so lost points.

4. Have fun with reading! This season I have slotted in a lot of mysteries, my favorite genre. I did that primarily as they are a great source of escape and fun for me, and I need to re-engage in the fun part of reading again. YES!

Oh, I almost forgot...

5. Catch up on all my reviews and stay current. I quit writing reviews due to NO TIME but I want to get back to doing that...and to do the reviews for books read this past season. Made an effort but still behind

message 170: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 46 comments This will be my first SRC challenge --- I'm super excited. I'm not a super fast reader so I'm not sure that I'll ever be able to finish a challenge so I like having my own goals. Here they are:

1). Read from my own TBR or library books for 80% of my books.

2). Try to complete a task from each of the 50, 30, and 25 point tasks and complete 2 from the 5, 10, 15 and 20.

3). Try to make each book I read count for multiple goals (other challenge, bookclub selection or group reads).

message 171: by Kathy G. (last edited Dec 01, 2012 07:43AM) (new)

Kathy G. | 1931 comments I did not meet my goal last challenge at all.
My goal this time is to read the books I own or get them from the library. I can't afford to buy more books!!! I have so many- It's crazy! :-)
I would like to get at least half the points.
But, I enjoy reading even if I don't get lots of points.

message 172: by Megan (new)

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments I want to keep my library count under 10 this season. Right now I've got 5 I've checked out myself: the one for the president task, Maisie Dobbs, the local setting book (because I've read all the ones I own that work), the crummy rating one, and one for the initials to make a word (granted, I don't need to use that book).

Technically, I have two others as well, but the librarian at my school asked me to read those and report back to her any issues that she should be aware of before putting them on the shelves, so I won't consider those TRUE library books--they're an assignment!

Also, no Wall o' Shame this season! I'm gonna pay attention when I post.

And, as always, finish and have fun doing so!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I only read 6 books in the fall challenge. That is horrible for me. I read at least 12 in the summer and Spring of 2012. I only did 5 tasks so I need to read at least 12 for this challenge and get at least 200 points.

Read more off my TBR list.

I managed to stay off the wall of shame this past challenge.

message 174: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments Get more than half the points (that's all I got in the fall, probably my worst showing ever).

Stay off the Wall of Shame.

Don't buy any new books.

message 175: by Katrina (new)

Katrina (katmcv) | 455 comments My goal is to beat my personal best of 705, been a while since I was able to read enough to be able to even come close to that, but it's summer holidays over here so hopefully plenty of time to read. Already gotten through two so it's a start!

message 176: by Kristine (new)

Kristine (kristinekae) | 251 comments My goal is to fully understand the whole thing, lol. I'm getting there.
Also, to use books I already own and NOT buy any new books, unless from the thrift store :)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments My goal for the year is to read 100 books. I had 92 last year but only 53 so far this year.

message 178: by Bea (new)

Bea Kristine wrote: "My goal is to fully understand the whole thing, lol. I'm getting there.

Kristine, I only buy books from my library sale - usually $.50. It supports the library and is cheap. Otherwise, if I do not have a book on my shelves or I find it in the library, I am out of luck. So far, my library has not failed to come through. :) I LOVE MY LIBRARY!

message 179: by Night (last edited Dec 03, 2012 02:04AM) (new)

Night | 57 comments I have been sidetracked by games so I missed several challenges.

My goal (and my New Year Resolution) is to read more books, play less FB games.

Just above 50 points is fine for me. I don't have high hope for myself.

And I will read whatever in my house that I'd like to read. Not picking them because they can answer the task. Hope I can fit them into any tasks later.

message 180: by Meghan (new)

Meghan (meghanly) | 336 comments My goals for the Winter 2012 Challenge:

* Read at least 40 books.
* Write a review for each.

Simple, right?!? :)

message 181: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 46 comments Winter was my first SRC challenge and I did pretty well against my goals.

1) Read from my own TBR or library books for 80% of my books. I hit 78% so I'm calling this a win!

2). Try to complete a task from each of the 50, 30, and 25 point tasks and complete 2 from the 5, 10, 15 and 20. Completed this one!

3). Try to make each book I read count for multiple goals (other challenge, bookclub selection or group reads).
I think that the 5 graphic novels are only counting for SRC, otherwise most many books counted for other challenges (personal and group).

For Spring, I want to
1) Stay off the wall of shame --- I had a minor infraction last time :-D

2) I will try to earn at least half the amount of points available, meaning 435 (only 10 more than last time)

3) Still try to use TBR and library as much as possible.

message 182: by Katrina (new)

Katrina (katmcv) | 455 comments Main goals for the spring challenge are to clear the physical Mt tbr (fair few books on the shelf making it hard to justify buying new ones) and along with that clear mostly from kindle or tbr list on goodreads. Any task that fits my actual tbr list without having to add to it is always wonderful, although great to try new things as well.

message 183: by Bea (last edited Mar 03, 2013 04:00AM) (new)

Bea I updated my goals for last season in post #171.

Goals for Spring:

1. Stay off the Wall of Shame. (For new members, the Wall of Shame is the "problem with post" thread.)
2. Make 80% of books read for SRC count for another group's challenges.
3. Achieve at lest 665 points. This would be a personal high.
4. Score all points for books read. That means, I will not leave points unclaimed by reading only one book of two book tasks.
5. Wrtie reviews on all books read this season and at least 25% of previous reads in 2012.
6. Have FUN!

message 184: by D.G. (new)

D.G. My goals are as follows:
- Stay away from the Hall of Shame. ;)
- Read books I want to read without forcing myself to read books just because they fit a task
- If I have a choice, pick books I already have on my TBR over new ones

I'll try to do better than last challenge (755 pts.) but if I cannot, no worries. My main goal is to enjoy myself and work on my TBR while varying my reading. :)

message 185: by Robin (Saturndoo) (last edited Mar 03, 2013 11:15AM) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I set a goal/resolution this year to "STAY OUT OF THE LIBRARY" until I read quite a few books off my own shelves, books on my kindle, or books downloaded/saved on my computer. This at first was a hard goal for me to start as I love going to the library. I usually don't get the "new books" as there are always long hold/waiting lists so I generally get the new releases from the previous years LOL. So my goals for this challenge are:

1. Read my own books (no library books)
2. Finish this challenge because I didn't finish the last one.
3. Cross challenge(make the books used for this challenge work for my challenges in other groups)
4. Borrowing this one from Bea **Score all points for books read. That means, I will not leave points unclaimed by reading only one book of two book tasks** Which I said I was going to do for the winter challenge but failed :(
5. I set this goal for the last challenge but failed at it too....I want to finish a book before starting another one. I'm very bad about having more than one book on the go....then I end up with several books hanging in limbo(half finished) when the end of the challenge approaches.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I only read 7 books Winter challenge. So I am going to hope to read 12.

Stay off the wall of shame which I wasn't on for Winter challenge.

I am going to cross-challenge books as much as I can.

Get 200 points.

Finish all two books tasks I start. I wasn't able to finish one before the Winter challenge ended.

message 187: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments My goals are:

1. Improve on my Winter Challenge score - it was my lowest ever.
2. Stay off the wall of shame

message 188: by Aleksandra (new)

Aleksandra (aleksandrakonwa) | 752 comments My goal is to stay from wall of shame
and hopefully beat winter score which was my highest.
fingers crossed

message 189: by Marty (new)

Marty (martymill) | 219 comments My goals:
A) approach this challenge in a much more organized fashion
B) pay better attention to the task requirements
C) make at least half the total points
D) use books off of my TBRs for most of the tasks

message 190: by Robyn (new)

Robyn Goals:
1. Stay off the wall of shame
2. Complete 1/3 of the tasks
3. Plan ahead instead of just finding random spots for my books to fit.

so excited for the challenge to start, off to go make my list!

message 191: by Bea (last edited Jun 01, 2013 01:55AM) (new)

Bea Goals for Spring Revisited:

1. Stay off the Wall of Shame. YIPPEE! I did this!
2. Make 80% of books read for SRC count for another group's challenges. I calculated that would have been about 55 books. I ended up with 30+
3. Achieve at lest 665 points. This would be a personal high. Got 400 which is typical for me
4. Score all points for books read. That means, I will not leave points unclaimed by reading only one book of two book tasks. Managed to do this with some last minute moving of books
5. Wrtie reviews on all books read this season and at least 25% of previous reads in 2012. Nope. Although I did write some reviews.
6. Have FUN! YES!

And, I am now on vacation until 6/12/13!!!

message 192: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments My Spring Goals were:

1. Improve on my Winter Challenge score - it was my lowest ever. - Done went from 275 to 455
2. Stay off the wall of shame - nope, I had one little math error that Sandy caught before I could change it.

I need to set my summer goals.

Bec (foreverfnm) | 132 comments My goals for this challenge are:

3. Stick to my plan
4. Read all library books before returning them.

message 194: by Robyn (new)

Actually --- the library doesn't know that you didn't read them. I read in an author's blog that she appreciates people checking out her books from the library because they track and may order more copies :-D I do the same thing though.

I'm a heavy library user, and one of the librarians told me that they really appreciate it - the circulation numbers show that the libraries are used, and help to keep them open. So, whether you actually read the books you check out or not, you're doing a community service by checking out books, LOL!

Kathy G. | 1931 comments Another thing I do is check out the book and the audio CD too--- I never know which I'll choose to use when the time comes to read it. That's double GOOD for the library.
