When do you give up on a book?

I think it's something to do with knowing what they are capable off, or in the case of a more hyped author, knowing that they at least are capable of writing a book many people like.


Other times for me, it's pure morbid curiosity.

If I don't enjoy the first couple of pages I stop reading. Unless it's really terrible I'll give it another chance later on.

There are some books I've given up on several times over. I'll get a few chapters in, decide "this isn't for me," and then a year or so later I'll spot it on the bookshelf and think "no, I was too hasty." Then I'll give up at about the same point as before. Then a year or two later...

I've a few books where I've done the same.

Although they are mostly because they are that hyped I believe I missed something the first time around!

When I give up on a book I usually read the last couple of chapters just to see how it comes out.
