Just as well we weren't having one of our more er, esoteric discussions.

Luckily, it wasn't a squid porn link.

Jim | 21813 comments Just to say that A Much Arranged Marriage has hit Current Sales rank of 10,092 in Kindle Store.
Which is frankly about as high as anything of mine has ever managed to get.

And according to Amazon, I've still not sold a single copy on .com
I suspect I'm just never going to sell well in the Americas :-(

And in case you missed it, Tallis did one of his stories on somebody else's blog

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Well done, Jim; hitting the ground running.

message 3908: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I find that I get my best hit in the first week

Certainly A Much Arranged Marriage is doing better than Flotsam or Jetsam: The Port Naain Intelligencer

Flotsam or Jetsam only got up to 22,225 and it probably takes more sales to get from 20,000 to 10,000 than it does to get from 100,000 to 20,000

Still no US sales

I'll have to remember to work in a squid scene in the next one I do. Perhaps have Tallis Steelyard blog about it

It had a catchy start. The last line I read, with the old lady, pulled me in.

And you did NOT do the dreaded info dump too much - more figure it out as you go. That's what I do.

Grasshopper sits at the feet of the master.

makes note on back of hand, 'Include squid subplot'

It shall be so!

One thing I realised with the 'look inside' feature, is that we have an opportunity to pull people in. Effectively it's Raymond Chandler's Law, "When in doubt, have a man come through a door with a gun in his hand."
With obvious tweaks for genre ;-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments "When in doubt, have a man come through the door with a squid in his hand". That'll work.

Perhaps we should make it obligatory for group writers? At least one book with a squid.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Jim, do you want a 'goodie' squid, or a 'baddie'?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments What if you are in a world where guns havent been invented yet? And a country with no coastline?

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "What if you are in a world where guns havent been invented yet? And a country with no coastline?"

Just because the country has no coastline, that's no excuse. Flying squid are are just as acceptable. As is the giant squid that was abandoned in the sewage system as a pet, only to grow up to be King Calamari.

message 3926: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments You don't need a coastline, just a big well or cenote and an underground river

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Flying squid! That is a terrifying thought. And a wonderful idea for a book!!

message 3929: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Feathered calamari.

Rosemary can draw the pic for the cover.

They look like winged dildos. Before you start the video, anyway. Will play it now.

message 3932: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yep. Japanese winged dildos.

Errant apostrophe in the title is annoying as fff heck.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Yeah. Japanese flying squid's WHAT.

message 3934: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Japanese flying squid's lube, I should hope.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Tthey only fly for 3 seconds. Massive disappointment :( :(

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Will wrote: "Flying squid... an exciteable Greek restaurant?"

I don't think I want to go to an exciteable restaurant of any cuisine...
