Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments I did find the contemporary stuff interesting. It was the arcana which was dull

I wonder how old the author is?"

don't think he's that old as works in digital world, but I'm guessing

message 3703: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments That's what I was driving at. I would suspect that if he was in his 60s, the arcana and old tomes might dominate ;-)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Finished and gave it five stars.

Gonna read your review now, Marc.

message 3706: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments I think we disagree on the depth of the characters

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Sheesh, you really were disappointed, eh?

Apparently, the cover of the dtb glows in the dark. Cooool.

message 3708: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments so the big question, will Jim read it or not?

message 3709: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The cover of the dtb glows in the dark, Marc!

He HAS to read it!

message 3710: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments he might be a print only man

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yes, our Jim is very medieval.

message 3712: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments then I'm medieval too

Jim | 21813 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "Yes, our Jim is very medieval."

given that the hardback is only a pound more than the Kindle!

At the moment I'm reading 'Cumbria to Canada' by Thomas Park Benson, a cousin of my Grandfather who I've met
And simultaneously Between Empires: Arabs, Romans, and Sasanians in Late Antiquity

Sitting on my desk next to me I've got Gods, Memes and Monsters: A 21st Century Bestiarythat I was sent, as well as Poseidon's Spear and of courseThe Generalship Of Alexander The Great which I picked up for pennies the other morning. Upstairs I've still gotThe Long Warwaiting to be read.

So it's going to have to work hard to get a look-in.It's got to the stage that if the author sent me a copy of the paperback (or in this case the hardback because it's cheaper!) I'd probably find time to read it.
That sounds arrogant and isn't meant to, but there's just so much stuff I do want to read and this one is trying to jump the queue.
If Will produces another Banned book, then that is straight in there. Same way with MTM.

But the problem with writing is that it cuts your reading time!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It certainly does!

I was that way when Wool first came out, but then the hardback was only 20p more than the Kindle ed. Gorgeously produced too. It was that which turned me onto matte covers. :)

message 3716: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Wool needs to have pages pulled out of it.

message 3717: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments People have convinced me not to bother reading it

message 3718: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Not if, Jim, when... I've resolved my plot issues with Working Title and plan to release January/February.

When are you doing more poetry?

message 3719: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments With Tallis, we thought that it might be fun to have Lancet lay down a challenge, along the lines I can pick the first ten idiots off the internet and they will write better poetry than Tallis Steelyard

So we'd publish these poems as Lambent Dreams 2 (name to be decided) but of course with literary criticism and explanation

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Are you auditioning for idiots then?

message 3727: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I haven't been in here since back in 2013... Shame on me.

Just came in to say I've not been having much luck finding a book that will hold my attention but Justice 4.1 has held it (so far!). I shall report back when I am a bit further in to it

message 3728: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Glad you like it Jud, if I'd known you were dropping round I'd have dug out some toys for the little one.
According to some readers War 2.2is better.

But at least Justice 4.1mentions potty training.

The Sci-Fi adventure story with everything! :-)

message 3729: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments She's at nursery anyway so I have tea and cake

Would you like some?

message 3730: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'll have it!

Naw, it'll be cold and stale by now.

Ah you've reached the stage of temporary liberation :-)
And the joy of communicating occasionally to grown-ups

Enjoy it all while it lasts

At least half of this group seem to have already done that.

Through the lentil swamp, quietly past the wrym's lair, around the round thingies, and up the sewers.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "Remind me to not go on holiday with GL again."

There weren't any lentil swamps in Dubai. You were lucky!

message 3738: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I don't recall any round thingies, either.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I think there were some in the gold section of the shopping mall.

message 3740: by Will (new)

I knew it was a mistake to go to the harvest supper, I come back and Gingerlily has led everybody astray. People will be popping up out of the sewers all over Western Europe and the US

Twits?

message 3749: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments No they're Tuits.
You can buy them. I've know many people say to themselves, "I must get a round tuit"
