Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The googly eyes or the plastic slippers?

message 3452: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Obviously it's a specialist taste because it does nothing for me :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hey MTM. I've just finished finally reading book 3, and about to start book 4.

message 3454: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments They're good aren't they. No squid though

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Jim wrote: "They're good aren't they. No squid though"

Lack of squid is not a major issue for me.

message 3456: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I confess I've managed to get by in a largely squid-free existance

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Me too, barring the very occasional plate of calamari.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments http://ilarge.lisimg.com/image/648710...

My only knowledge of squid, from a childhood-watched cartoon. They appear to be remarkably talented.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Actually looking at that image has just left me wondering where he has plugged in his guitar.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments An electric eel's backside, I expect.

message 3461: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I'm not sure I've even eaten Calamari, genuinely cannot remember.
Might have had bits of squid in other stuff, who knows. Probably tastes of chicken

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Nah, tastes of rubber.

message 3463: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Ah well, not missed much

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I haven't had oyster. Not sure if I've missed anything there.

message 3465: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Same here actually

message 3466: by Richard (new)

Richard Martinus | 551 comments Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "I haven't had oyster. Not sure if I've missed anything there."

Mrs Martinus has. She likens it to seawater mixed with snot.

message 3467: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Not a combination I've ever tried to be honest

message 3468: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Never been swimming in the sea, Jim?

message 3469: by Richard (new)

Richard Martinus | 551 comments And yelling "Eew, James, these things taste of snot!" during the audition does nothing for your chances of landing the role of Bond girl.

message 3470: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "Never been swimming in the sea, Jim?"

I was going to say 'Not for forty years' but remembered I'd swum in the Med so not for thirty years then.

To be honest I've always found swimming pretty boring. Especially when you have poor eyesight and cannot wear your glasses. I'd far rather go for a walk

message 3471: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I have the same problem. Hate swimming blind. That's why I prefer pools.

message 3472: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments You can get prescription swimming goggles, I hear.

message 3473: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've heard that too. I'll stick with pools.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments They only do to -8 diopter. No use to me, and I agree with Jim, swimming is boring anyway.

message 3475: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments What's a diopter?

message 3476: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Measurement of short sight (in crude terms)

My eyes were worse than -10 so I got free eye tests
When I had my cataracts done there was 12 diopters between each eye, the brain refused to believe both of them and ignored one, so I lost my depth perception.
Snapped back in within seconds when I had the second eye done

There's prescription swimming pools?

Tim | 8539 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "What's a diopter?"

American for dioptre ;)

It's a measurement of optical power for lenses (= the reciprocal of its focal length in metres) A 3 dioptre lens has a focal length of ⅓ metre (333mm)

message 3479: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I still have no idea what a diopter is.

message 3480: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments The more deportees a lens has, the stronger it is.

message 3481: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Bloody autocorrect! Dioptres!

Frighteningly, that made sense.

message 3483: by Richard (new)

Richard Martinus | 551 comments I spent my formative years in the Caribbean. I've ever since been unable to understand the point of swimming if there aren't tropical fish and coral to look at.

(Disengage smug mode, Mr Chekov.)

message 3484: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I pass among assorted guests with a collection plate

Perhaps you'd feel differently if you had to squint at them. ;)

And I'm sure all the funds raised go to worthy causes and not 90% admin fees.

Jim | 21813 comments As the man said when they asked him about the money he stole

"I spent half of it on drink and women and wasted the rest."

I heard that attributed to George Best: http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quo...

message 3489: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I think it's one that's done the rounds. Once you hear it, it's too good not to use if you get the opportunity :-)

David Hadley Jim wrote: "I think it's one that's done the rounds. Once you hear it, it's too good not to use if you get the opportunity :-)"

Well, when I get the chance, I'm going to use it.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Haven't seen you for a few days. You okay?

You know this bloke?

http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-3221...

message 3493: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I don't know him as such, although he might have been at events I was at. He's from over Penrith way which is an hour and a half from here but I do know some people who farm over that side.
Most of the Fell farmers I know are from the southern and central fells. (It's just an artifact of geography :-)

As for me I'm fine, just had a weekend away, leaving the desktop chained to the desk and my phone (such as it is) switched off the entire time :-)

message 3494: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh good. Glad all is fine.

Have all the sheep finally popped?

message 3495: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Yes, the last of the six with crossed legs produced her triplets on Friday. Of the others there are about a dozen left to lamb and they'll probably take the next three or so weeks so we're now in the 'post lambing' phase when we're worming those lambs who've been born a few weeks

message 3496: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That reminds me to worm my chickens!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I saw Have I got New for You, and they had a clip of David Cameron feeding a lamb. Poor thing looked terrified!

message 3498: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Did you see the child having a desk/head interface moment as he was trying to get her to read to him?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yes, I've seen that picture all over the place. It expresses the mood of a large part of the country I would think!

message 3500: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's like The Emperor's New Clothes. Only the child dares to express people's feelings.
