Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yeah. The only thing I use a fork for is putting food in my mouth.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've just been reading about using toasting forks in front of an electric fire.

How well does that work?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Fine for miniature pigs.

message 3369: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I can remember making toast over a hot ring on a cooker, using a bent metal coat hanger to sit it on but that is many years ago and didn't involve bacon

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I have a photo somewhere of my brother's lodger heating a can of ambrosia creamed rice over a gas ring, holding it with the can opener he had used to remove the lid.

message 3371: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments David wrote: "Great news, Jim. Did you use any of those listing sites?"

Yes,many thanks for the list. I'm with as many of the free ones as I could get :-). I rather concentrated on the US ones (most of them are) because I thought I ought to try and break into the US market.

Obviously I registered with the premier UK site, BookHippo.UK

Jim | 21813 comments Kath wrote: "Great stuff! Keep going - that's the way to do it!"

Jim | 21813 comments Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "Just finished War and Peace 2.2 Not bad at all."

glad you liked it.
Actually it was short enough that I could probably have stuck it three quarters of the way into War and Peace and most people would never know because they never get that far :-)

message 3393: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Hovering about 1000 in UK, still drifting up in US

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,147 Free in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Free in Kindle Store)
#7 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Military
#10 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera

message 3394: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I'm shallow enough to actually go to the website to look at my book there lying 7th. Then I noticed one of the others, out two years, has 342 reviews!
Mainly 4 star, but a nice range, even 7 one star!

message 3395: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'd like to see it hit the top 100 in the free store.

message 3396: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments What have you got in the way of ads? I got up to #250 in the UK and #260 in the US with just a BKnights and a BookHippo. I think if I could have got some more ads for day 2 (when it started flagging) - ENT or similar, I could have hit the top 100...

message 3397: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments The problem is with the big guys I don't have enough reviews for them to take me
Also whilst some are free, if you want to feature on their front page, you're expected to make a financial contribution

My marketing budget is limited to providing ice cream for Patti's 5 year olds when they come and see the lambs :-)

message 3398: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I had at least half a dozen of the American genuinely free sites, but because I wasn't paying it was a case of 'You'll probably be in at some point between these two days'
So some may yet to come through

It was interesting that I was given a list, and in the few months between the list being compiled and me using it, a number of the sites had switched to charging. Their argument was that there were just so many people wanting promoting

message 3399: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments sneaking up

Amazon Bestsellers Rank: #801 Free in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Free in Kindle Store)
#5 in Kindle Store > Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Military
#9 in Kindle Store > Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera

message 3400: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Yes, I only use the cheapies - BKnights is $5 (on Fiverr), and ENT is only $15 for SF & YA. ENT has always paid for itself, but being accepted is hit & miss. But then I don't always get a slot on Rosen's BookHippo either.
