I like having the car as it gives us a huge range of travel, of course but as I was saying to Dave, one does feel removed from things.

On the other hand I discovered that when I was working in a field on a tractor, wild life ignored me as just another noisy herbivore or something.
The minute I got out of the tractor I was a human being and everything immediately went to ground!

Same thing with the neighbourhood cats - they'll sit and watch the car arrive, but as soon as you get out, they scarper.
I wonder if you'd get the same effect sitting on a horse...
