Jim,

This Tsarina facebook thing reminds me so much of Christopher Priest's The Islanders, have you read it?

message 1507: by Jim (last edited Dec 17, 2013 05:08AM) (new)

Jim | 21813 comments No, I'd never even heard of Christopher Priest until this point :-(
It strikes me that we might both have been influenced by writers like Jack Vance when it comes to settings, and looking at the review, even Lord Dunsany

message 1508: by David (new)

David Hadley The Islanders starts out as a sort of travel guide to the Dream Archipelago, which is what reminds me of your Tsarina pieces.

Priest's stuff can be... er... imaginatively convoluted at times, but I've liked his stuff a lot since I fist came across it back in the 80s, probably.

Can't think of much Vance I've read. Must've read some at some point.

Lord Dunsany is a pretty new one to me. Sounds interesting. I've heard of the King of Elfland's Daughter, but that's about it.

message 1509: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I'd recommend http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anthology-Fea... as a good place to start :-)

With Jack Vance, it depends whether you like SF or Fantasy. His best fantasy is probably Tales of the Dying Earth: The Dying Earth/The Eyes of the Overworld/Cugel's Saga/Rhialto the Marvellous or The Complete Lyonesse

Jim | 21813 comments Mind you, to be fair, on the https://www.facebook.com/TsarinaSecto... I'm sort of playing and exploring the background. Some of the places covered are there because they're fun, they might get mentioned in passing in the book, or stirring deeds might be done there :-)

And no one will have to do this https://www.facebook.com/TsarinaSecto...

Looks interesting, thanks.

Tales of a Dying Earth sounds very familiar. I may have read that one.

Just found Gutenberg have a heap of Lord Dunsany books:

Did you stay dry?

message 1542: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I managed today. This afternoon I sat down to write a bit more of the next Tsarina sector novel and discovered that whilst I've got the book mentally mapped out in two chunks, I've never really thought about how to join the two chunks together.I'm now at the end of one chunk. If tomorrow is fine I've got some stuff to do in town so I'll walk in and that will give me time to think, plot and put things together.
