I shall direct a look of icy disdain in their direction, and I may even sneer.
How do you know what direction they are in. For instance I may not be in Dublin aty the moment, and if you directed a look of any sort in the direction Dublin it would miss me...

I made a charity quilt from charity shop shirts. Gave it to one of the charities to raffle.
But there again, I suspect we're old enough to remember the rag and bone men, when everything was recycled.
I am, that's for sure! The Japanese make a lot of things from old kimono material. They do some fabulous patchwork there. Their belief is that you have extended the life of the fabric by reusing it, so in giving it to someone, you are wishing long life upon the recipient. I think that's a wonderful way of looking at it.

The native Americans also have this respect for materials, especially natural ones. We've lost so much since the Industrial revolution. We're so keen to grasp the new we lose much of the old.
I'm not sure it's just the Industrial revolution. Terry Pratchett picked up on the second hand clothing shops, and even forty years ago people expected clothes to wear well.I remember my grandfather and uncles working in the clothes that had been 'good' twenty years before. I still work in 'hand-me-downs' that have done good service in less stressful conditions.
I think the real blow came with cheap disposable clothes so that a girl will only wear the dress once on a night out and never expect to wash or wear it again.
It is interesting that men often horde old clothes because they're comfortable (if scruffy) and it can be wives and girl friends who throw them out.

i bought 28 pairs of pants at tesco before the holiday and Im binning a pair a day.kidding!!!

It might be older!"It's rare for a pair of jeans to last a year with me. OK they last longer now, I perhaps get two years out of them, but I could wear out any pair in a year :-)
I just cut a bit of fraying off the bottom! They are worn in circulation with several other pairs of trousers so it's not continuous wear. The t-shirt has a depiction of Monet's garden on and says Monet. Jardin a Giverny.
Sorry for butting in but my daughter's off to do a Textiles and Fashion degree this autumn and she is heavily into old fabrics, scrap stores and "preloved" clothes, maybe a lot of that is my influence but I think there maybe is a move in the young towards a less throwaway mindset. I hope!

Normally I've worn them thin across the thighs and sides of the legs from carrying stuff, and they're torn or the seams have pulled.
I used to reckon I would get two pairs of jeans in September, and by the following August they weren't even fit to be used as patching material :-)
Mine always go on the bum where I ride my bike and the seams between the legs where my chubby thighs rub together. Phnark.Cheers

Well your request fetched a lot of stuff back that I'd half forgotten. Me and Sal (the young dog) went round stock this morning, and the words of 'Johnny come Lately' just kept haunting me as I tried to remember them.
