I was impressed :-)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Isn't it Roger that? My name is M T McGuire. Goodnight.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Roger what?

Jim | 21813 comments Oh and not literary, just goodbye to an old friend

message 765: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hey Jim, you'll miss her. I didn't follow the link at the end but I'd guess it's the one about 'giving your heart to a dog, to tear'? I think Kipling got to the heart of so many things.

message 766: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments That's the one. The older I get, the more I appreciate Kipling.
At the moment I still find myself unconsciously keeping an eye out for her. She had a habit of lying in doorways so she could keep a watch on both rooms simultaneously, which meant I had to keep stepping over her

message 767: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Just to show how pathetically easy we writers are to please. I just checked my Amazon author page to discover all three books have just had people buy them!
Pathetic I know but it's just made a nice day seem nicer :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I can totally understand that Jim.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Me too, Jim!

message 770: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I suspect that it's something that we do but in reality we don't have any absolute guide to whether it's good, bad, or largely indifferent. When someone does a good review (which needn't be 5 star) or actually puts their money down, it feels as if someone cares :-)

message 771: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh you'd be happy with the gift of an attractive squid.

Admit it.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments How do you decide the attractiveness of a squid?

message 773: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Patti (Ogre for Hire) wrote: "Oh you'd be happy with the gift of an attractive squid.

'Admit it' sounds slightly less dangerous than 'confess', but only slightly.
It's probably the Canadian equivalent.

Jim | 21813 comments Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "How do you decide the attractiveness of a squid?"

I do not want to know

Tentacles that go all the way up to its cleavage, of course.

....off to put on my fluffy robe. My Canuck seems to be showing...

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Gak! I come here after I don't know how long and read more squiddyness.... yeeeeek!

Cheers

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments The squid is ever lurking.

Omnipresent is probably the word

message 779: by Jim (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And fast cars?

message 783: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I'm still kicking myself that I didn't call the post "The four lesbians of the apocalypse"

I shall defer to Gingerlily in future

For those who wonder what we're on about, http://jandbvwebster.wordpress.com/

What worries me is that Patti is holding a flaming torch in one hand and is pulling the curtains aside with the other as she checks for Lesbians

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Thats your curtains gone again. We have the fire brigade on speed dial here...

message 785: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Haha! Excellent blog post as usual Jim!

Jim | 21813 comments Gingerlily (The One and Only) wrote: "Thats your curtains gone again. We have the fire brigade on speed dial here..."

Funny you should say that ;-)
I just, genuinely, had a phone call from the fire brigade.
They rang earlier, is it OK if they come round to do a farm visit. They do these, some of it is for our safety, some is for theirs. It is doubtless comforting for them to know we don't store ammonium nitrate next to the diesel for example.

Anyway they never turned up and never turned up and Brenda commented they'd probably been called out to a fire.
Just then the phone rang. They had just turned into our lane and got the call out, so they'd had to back all the way out of the lane and go to it :-)
Had I know that Patti was there with the flaming torch I'd have called them back

Thanks lass. The joy of living among interesting people ;-)

Actually I started off going to write about something completely different and that was just an introduction, but it took over

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments These ladies in the fast car had obviously read your goodreads thread, Jim. The instant I saw your thread had floated back to the top I knew there'd be a little adult action ;~)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And of course you are there like a shot, eh David?

message 790: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Only to see what the naughty kids are up to.
