Mark Goldstein | 4 comments As Luck Would Have It

My book will be promoted for free on 3/2 and 3/3. Thanks for looking.

Meet Clifford Andrews, a sometimes confused, often cynical, and always entertaining middle-aged baby boomer, whose amazing streak of good luck began when the slightly effeminate but likable Joseph moved in just down the block, right before entering their dreaded three-year prison term called middle school. If having a gay best friend would have rattled the typical heterosexual teenager in 1973, you are about to learn that Clifford is anything but typical.
Clifford’s luck seems to shadow him everywhere, but he is often forced to ponder the question of whether it has been a blessing or curse. Left an orphan at the age of 14, he is forced to move in with his overbearing aunt and somewhat detached uncle. Joseph is regularly bullied in school for being different, but Clifford is determined to protect his friend, and their true friendship endures for more than half a century.
Clifford stumbles into a mundane career as an accounting consultant, but good fortune has seen to it that he never has to work hard or gets into hot water with the insufferable management. Only later as he nears retirement does disaster intervene and enable him to strike a balance between his luck and the reality of living as an adult in a world that has suddenly changed seemingly right before his eyes.
Narrated from Clifford’s distinct blend of sarcasm and humor, the reader will be drawn into his surreal world of luck, tragedy and growth.

Carry Lada (carrylada) | 43 comments My humorous short story is free 2/27 and 2/28 on amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/A-Very-Ugly-Sto...

Carry Lada's A Very Ugly Story: (Short Fiction: approximately 4000 words)

Immerse your imagination into this silly story that will tickle your funny bone.

Warning: In this story there are plenty of nipples. (o)(o) Don't reach for a paper towel just yet, because this is not erotica. ;)

An amateur mad scientist, a mean boss, a very ugly mishap, some beautiful people, and a bouncing bikini babe running away to retain her beauty.

Excerpt:

She fell off of the balcony face first and a branch of the ugly tree broke her fall as it sprung back. Boing! It tossed her to the branch on the other side of the tree again and again. Each time she hit a branch it altered her. Her look, color, and form had drastically changed. She fell down the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

"Boing!" her skin became green.

"Boing!" hair grew out from the most embarrassing places.

"Boing!" her nipples swelled like never before.

She transformed into an unrecognizable beast. She became a grotesque being that was almost as ugly as her personality. Like a caricature of herself. Once she hit the bottom branch she spun into a tizzy and fell on her duff. She sat on the ground dazed and her eyes looked crazed. Her chunky-hairy arms, chest, and legs were fazed and her armpit hair was out of control. Her teeth were the color of cinnamon raisin bread. She had bags under her eyes and a big wart on her nose. Crusty hairs protruded out of the sides of her panties, which was revealed from under her tattered once beautiful black dress. She still had pointy nipples, but they were now the size of cocktail weenies. Her black F-me boots were now more like black don't F-me boots. She had the same red lipstick.

Read this story, because it is fun. :)

HAVE A NICE TRIP? SEE YOU NEXT FALL! Attending their daughter's wedding in South Africa promised to be the vacation of a lifetime. But first, they had to face the treacherous gauntlet known as modern day travel. Join this hapless, sometimes helpless couple as they brave their way through a never-ending obstacle course filled with such hazards as flight delays, the purgatory of layovers and an incompetent, uncaring air carrier that treats its passengers worse than their luggage. Waiting for them on the other side of the world are an honest-to-goodness safari with amorous lions and elephants with anger issues, a life-affirming visit to a South African school and an anxious bride and groom, standing patiently at the airport with a sign that reads: "WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG? " The answer lies within the pages of PLEASE HOLD THUMBS: A NOT-SO-ROUND TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA, a true tale of turbulence and triumph from Scott Cherney, author of RED ASPHALT and IN THE DARK

In 1985, at the age of 12, she realized she wanted more. It was then that she discovered The Sunset Strip in Hollywood was a bustling scene of glam rock bands, local and transplants, where everyone was scraping to make it in the music scene.

At 13, she went to The Whisky a Go Go for the very first time. By the age of 14, she was a regular at the clubs on The Sunset Strip. Being a tomboy, she was a bit unconventional for the wild, Hollywood scene. But after surviving the psychotic nightmare of her first boyfriend, she wasn’t about to conform to anyone. She was determined to create her social standing on her own terms.

Take a walk with Marisa and her friends down Sunset Blvd as she recalls what it was like being a teenager, battling through the perils of stalkers, cheating boyfriends, groupies, suicide, emancipation, arrests and debauchery during the decade of decadence."

My name is Kait Neese and I am the creator of this wonderful group of ours! I work full time with my publishing firm and work this Goodreads group as a side project because I really do love the concept of authors being in charge of their own success. However I have a responsibility/duty to my direct authors and my employers to make sure that comes first - which I am sure you can understand.

I have so enjoyed watching this group grow and authors around the world coming together to help one another out. So a big thank you to everyone out there who is taking their success into their own hands and realizing other authors are not the enemy and that working together will take you so much further than working against one another. (Ok ok end of cheesy moment, smile)

I posted a thread a few months ago about what three things matter most to you, as an author, that a publisher could do to help you out. Really help you out. I had some great feedback and really appreciate the comments made! (The post can be found by clicking here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...)

That being said I noticed a few authors mentioned distribution as something they would like publishers to help out more with. I do quite a bit of traveling to international book fairs and specialize in helping authors and sm/medium sized publishers “go global”.

I will be hosting a webinar on book rights (translation rights) and distribution into China on August 6th at 2:00 pm EST. I wanted to give my appreciation and gratitude to all of the authors in this group for their continued dedication and participation on these threads so I thought this might be a really cool thing to do. (Free of charge of course : )

Please see my latest thread for more information on what we will be discussing and how to sign up here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Hope you can make it!

Wendy (citywoman) | 86 comments Free for the next 5 days starting 26th July:
'The Other Side of Nowhere'by Wendy Rawady
This haunting thriller, idyllic yet violent and cruel, will take you on a journey through exotic and harsh lands, accompanied by many of the characters who live and love there. Episodic, at times epic, it covers many of the agonies of country life which, at times, can be ultra-conservative when it should be conservationist. The people of this region, however, have big ideas. And big tragedies to overcome. City folk, perhaps, just don't get it.

How simple it is for bureaucrats, comfy in their Aeron office chairs, to destroy the ambience of a shire! With just a few emails they can green-light paved roads, bridges, noxious waste dumps or destructive mining projects trampling over the environment, traditional owners and locals. When residents are consumed with their own cares - fire, flood, illegal refugees, drought and murder, all of which occur with surprising regularity in a typical Australian outback shire - vested interests can strike a mean blow.
Despite it being referred to as ‘the other side of nowhere’, there is an impressive quality of life here. People are good and kind. Tradition rules. It’s safe. But uninvited, heinous crime sneaks in when an eccentric American woodworker and his art-teacher girl-friend squat in the holiday house of a city family. When these owners come for an unexpected visit, the pair of psychotic squatters decides to fight for possession of the old ruin and the garden that holds the key to a sunny future.

The shire survives the outcome of this catastrophic event just as it has for more than a century. On its coastal fringes, it has been fortunate to become the unwitting host to a shipload of refugees. Their skipper has taken a wrong turn en-route to New Zealand. Any increase in population is appreciated and these skilled Asian migrants are greeted with particular joy for the improvements they bring. Except by one veteran of the Vietnam conflict.

All newcomers and visitors, gay, straight, old, young or foreign are welcome, as long as they love the land and tolerate their neighbors. It is not just the harsh weather and climate that test the locals, but the strangers who drift in and out of its borders.

In a lightning fact-finding tour, the Prime Minister, glad-handing the residents to secure their support, misses the point. His barren wife, Mary, is wooed by delicious and inventive produce but he sees just a potential juicy investment. Public servants are briefed, instructed to alter the boundaries so that the shire’s by-laws can be supplanted with new laws that make the P.M.’s investment viable.

‘The Other Side of Nowhere’ tracks emails between two football-obsessed pen-pushers regarding a massive shire that stretches from the coast to lignum scrub and outback desert beyond. The border reassignment bounces from high priority to back-burner and the outcome ultimately rests on the level of preoccupation amongst its troubled residents.

Check it out - please review on amazon.com if you have time.

Mostly, enjoy this book that has been structured for today's busy life. You'll see what I mean by that when you read it!
Cheers,

Wendy (citywoman) | 86 comments Just a reminder that my book, 'The Other Side of Nowhere' ('The Other Side of Nowhere' available at http://tinyurl.com/d7kt9wn) will be on free promo for Kindle from tomorrow, July 26th. 5 days of free downloads! The synopsis is on the site but if you like a book that is a good page turner as well as episodic so that you can read it on a plane, a bus, last thing at night and so on, this is for you! Great characters that leap off the page and beautiful locations.

It's a contemporary novel, no vampires, werewolves or fairy tales ... !

Please download and enjoy and leave me some feedback in the way of a review on amazon if you have some time.

Cheers,
Wendy Rawady

What if one day you woke up in a world where everything you loved an knew no longer existed?
A sinister destiny looms over our world, an invisible, deadly one.

THE BLEAK DOOR immerses us in a world in which certainties, those things we trust in and feel our own will turn threatening, uncertain. It will force us to draw the veil of the inexplicable, to fight for our lives. But the enemy presents itself as very resolved, lethal, and its purpose, impenetrable. And, maybe, just maybe, our reaction might have come too late.
An intense, action-packed, suspenseful, unpredictable plot and a background that moves not only emotionally, but also intellectually, from start to end.

Have a great weekend all of you!!
