Lauren (lhaddow) Hi everyone! I'm Lauren from California. I'm a grad student in anthropology so I really enjoy ancient history. When I'm not reading for school I enjoy any type of history, although I prefer non-fiction. Right now I'm reading:

1491 New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann by: Charles C. Mann

Looking forward to reading new books and hearing everyone's thoughts on them!

Bryan Craig Welcome, Lauren. Glad you could join us.

Great job on the citation. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

Thank you Byran for helping Lauren out with the useful links.

Welcome Lauren and congrats on getting the citation correct first time.

Wish I were in sunny California now where the weather must be a lot warmer. Glad that you like Ancient History and if you have any suggestions for the Ancient History folder please let us know and/or Elizabeth S.

We want to make your stay here enjoyable.

Catherine Dong | 2 comments My name is Catherine Claxton-Dong. My Ph.D. is in government, but my research for over a decade now has been focused on aspects of western European and United States history.

I don't usually read history for fun - well, it's been years since I've read much of anything for fun - I get too absorbed when I read and get nothing done.

I have spent many, many days practically living on wikipedia and reading bits and pieces from no longer copyrighted histories on the internet.

I like history, its patterns, its surprises, its often astonishingly progressive aspects that reveal the outline of our own cultural preconceptions.

It should be fun not to just write about it, but to talk about it. :)

Catherine Dong | 2 comments Thanks, Ausie Rick, Bryan, Alisa and Bentley. My cousin has been wanting me to join forever, but I'm too addicted when I read (rarely put down a book before finishing it), so I have been "dieting." Now that I've gotten a portion of my research published, though, I want to give myself a bit of a break with reading and social life, etc.

Jim (grishamfan2) | 2 comments Hello everyone,

My name is Jim, I live in The Netherlands and I'm 22, my interest for history started at my primary school, I loved the history lessons everyday, when I was 14 I started to read history books, and I enjoyed it so very much that I decided to make it my hobby, so next to reading books, I subscribed to history magazine, and I joined a few forums. When I had to go to college I decided I would like to studie history, so I chose to become a history teacher, I'm still studying(almost done and then I'm a certified history teacher).

At the moment I own about 280 books, where at least half of them are history books(maybe even more) and I'm not quite done with buying history books, furthermore I own 2 books who are printed in 1884.

That is everything for now :)

Alisa (mstaz) Jim, thanks for posting the book cover, don't forget to add the author links to complete the citation. Cover photo, author photo (when available, in this case it was not), and author link. It should look like this:

102 Minutes The Untold Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers by Jim Dwyer Jim Dwyer

Thanks!

Jason, welcome to the group. I can see that many of the assisting moderators are helping you already. I did not see the author's photo available on that book. So you would add the book cover as you did and the author's link which is the author's name in linkable text; when the author's photo is available then of course you would add that too.

Felina Hello Everybody,

I noticed a friend of mine had joined this group (Hi Terri) and since I've always been interested in history I decided to join as well. I very rarely get to read strictly historical books and I look forward to discussing with everybody. I picked up a copy of A Distant Mirror The Calamitous 14th Century by Barbara W. Tuchman by Barbara W. Tuchman and am planning on joining in the discussion.

Alisa (mstaz) Hi Felina! ~ Glad you discovered the group and decided to join. There are so many areas of history and topics to explore that even for the casual fan there is often something that stumulates curiousity. Glad you are here.

You did a good job adding the book cover and author's photo but remember you also have to add the author's link; like so:

Terri has enjoyed her time here so I know you will. We look forward to you joining the Tuchman read.

A big shout out to everyone! :)
I'm Rein and i'm currently living in Aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud.
i've finished my secondary school and would soon pursue my tertiary education as a registred nurse. just like everyone i love to read books and im challenging myself to read more of historical fiction books. so then i join this group to find more recommendations and of course to share my thoughts about the books that the group are reading...i'm about to start reading the H.M.S Surprise H.M.S. 'Surprise' (Aubrey/Maturin Book 3) by Patrick O'Brian so i can catch up with every one. happy reading!:)

First welcome Rein and glad you found the Introductory thread; that is one of our first requirements for everyone who joins.

I had to look up where you were stating you were from: Aotearoa I had to say where is that?

Wikipedia helped out with this explanation: "Aotearoa (pronounced Māori: [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa], commonly /aʊtɪəˈroʊ.ə/ ( listen) by English speakers) is the most widely known and accepted Māori name for New Zealand. It is used by both Māori and non-Māori, and is becoming increasingly widespread in the bilingual names of national organisations, such as the National Library of New Zealand / Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa.[1]"

So I assume you are from New Zealand. I am glad that you like historical fiction and history and we are delighted with that.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. I can see that you added the bookcover which is terrific; but remember that on our site there are three parts to our citations: book cover, author's photo when available and always the author's link.

There are a few helpful links which may be useful to you.
