A.J. Deus (ajdeus) | 4 comments Hello everyone
I am A.J. Deus. History is my life, and I write about it. Social economics of poverty is my primary focus. As one of the drivers of poverty, I have studied religious terrorism through the ages and for all three Judaic belief systems, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Welcome Jenny and AJ Deus.

AJ, just as a reminder, we do not allow any self promotion on the site whatsoever. We do have an author's thread which the moderator team uses to post books by contributing members of the group.

Please be mindful of the guidelines for the group.

Link to our guidelines:

Take a few moments to read the orientation:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

We also have a Help Desk folder for those needing some assistance on the format for the citations, etc.

Here is that link:

Alisa (mstaz) Hello Ben ~ Welcome, we are glad you have joined the club.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how books you mention should look:
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot by Rebecca Skloot Rebecca Skloot

message 2312: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin | 1 comments Hi, my name is Caitlin. I'm 21 years old and am a history major at the University of Illinois. I'm hoping to go to grad school in a couple years for either Irish Studies or History (preferably English or French history). I am part of a history club and the history honor's society on campus. I'm also interested in theatre and have participated in a couple student-run theatre groups. I love reading... well, ANYTHING, really. I love music and enjoy some films... Psychology and history are my two favourite subjects... My favourite historical era is either the Victorian era or the Tudors in England. I don't care much for US history, except up to the Reconstruction after the Civil War.

I just wrote a lot and it's so unorganized, sorry!!

I have a Bachelor's in History and am considering a Ph.D at some point. I have been teaching 8th grade Social Studies for the past 6 years. I also continue to do research and write in my spare time. I am currently researching life in the Pacific NW during the late 1920's.

Emily, sorry but our pop up tells everybody before they post for the first time that we allow no self promotion. We are happy to welcome authors; we love authors; but we want them to get to know us first and become part of the fabric of the group. We will honor our contributing authors on the promote authors thread; this is done by the moderation team however.

I have taken the liberty to post your intro minus that segment:

From Emily:

Ahhh, HERE everyone is! I have been a Goodreads.com member since the beginning of the year and am very happy to find a group so intellectually devoted to historical fiction. As a military brat I have lived in a number of U.S. regions, The South, The West, Midwest, and currently I reside in the Pacific Northwest.

Historical fiction written about the Civil War has caught my attention lately, resulting in my just having completed, 'The Wench'. My bookshelf contains mostly historical fiction, and political science-related titles.

This month's reading selection, including 'All's Quiet on the Western Front' should generate impassioned discussions.

______________________________________________________________

Additionally Emily we do have some guidelines regarding citations:

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque Erich Maria Remarque Erich Maria Remarque

Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez Dolen Perkins-Valdez Dolen Perkins-Valdez

The books and authors mentioned should have the bookcover, the author's photo when available and the author's link. We do not allow self promotion for the obvious reasons which we have explained in our guidelines.

Alisa (mstaz) Emily, welcome! We are delighted to have you as a member and hope you enjoy discussing books and exploring areas of history that interest you. Non-fiction and fiction are both discussed here so plenty to choose from in topics. We look forward to your participation. BTW, I also live in the Pacific Northwest - a population that enjoys a high ratio of bookstores per capita which is a nice feature for those of us who read constantly!

Jennifer (sirenicangel) | 12 comments Hello, I'm Jennifer, but call me Jen or Jenny. I'm 27 years old and currently living in Birch Bay, WA but will be moving to Albuquerque, NM next month (Where I'm originally from). I want to hopefully attend University of New Mexico to major in Anthropology/Archaeology with a minor in History, my dream is to become a Museum Director. I am in love with American and Northern European History. My dream is to do underwater archaeology in the Northern Sea, Baltic Sea and North Atlantic to do research on the viking ships that lay on the sea bed. I love Celtic history, it's truly fascinating. I love studying Colonial America, American Frontier, the stories of the Oregon trail are amazing. I enjoy reading anything related to Anthropology and Archaeology, I love reading about evolution and the many discoveries that come with it.
I also enjoy the light reading of romance novels, fantasy, biographies. I also enjoy some good political reading.
For hobbies I enjoy of course reading, writing (I'm a hopeful to-be some day author lol) I love blogging, hiking, camping. Sitting by a campfire in the wilderness with a good book and roasting a marshmallow is pure heaven for me lol.

I'm looking forward to getting to know others here, this is a great group.

Elizabeth S (esorenson) | 2011 comments Welcome, Jen. Glad to have you join us. There are lots of great discussions going on in the group, so read and join in!

When you comment, be sure to always site any books or authors you mention using the "add book/author" feature provided by goodreads. It makes things so much easier for people to see what book you are talking about, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. And it is a requirement for our group. Here is an example of how a book should look:

Legacy of Ashes the History of the CIA by Tim Weiner Tim Weiner Tim Weiner

If you are unsure how to do this, either ask one of us moderators for help or go to the following thread for more information:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

Please also take a moment and look at our orientation thread:

Oana | 4 comments Hello everyone, my name is Oana (pronounced like "Juana"). I saw that you will be reading A Distant Mirror, which I was hoping to start again (and finish) this year, and joined this group. I usually read about 5-10 nonfiction history books about wherever I travel during the year. This year, I am going to France, so I am brushing up on my French history. Occasionally, I also read some fiction from that country's authors too.

A Distant Mirror The Calamitous 14th Century by Barbara W. Tuchman Barbara W. Tuchman

Outside of reading and travelling, my other hobbies are writing, studying Romanian culture, and German-style boardgames. I live with my husband, a cat and two guinea pigs in Vancouver, and work in the museum field.

Hello, Oana and welcome! It's so great you get to travel so much, that is one very big dream of mine. It's also great that you work in the museum, that is also another big goal of mine. I would love to know and learn what all you do in the museum. Enjoy all the wonderful reading.
