Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. You will see plenty of examples in our threads.

Welcome Donna to the History Book Club. We are glad to have you with us and glad that you like the group set up.
And a Happy New Year to you too.
And a Happy New Year to you too.

I'm Laura, and I live in suburban Maryland with my husband, two cats, and our daughter when she's not away at college. I own and operate a small CPA firm, and tax season is sniffing at my heels once again.
Like Elizabeth (Alaska), I took up a presidential challenge on another group, and was quickly swept away. History and geography were my worst subjects in school, but I've always loved politics. So a couple of months ago, I decided to start with Washington and work my way forward! I'm hooked on history now, loving every second, and I never thought I'd say that.
This group is so well organized, and full of so much fantastic information and great book discussions that I just had to step out of the shadows. Thanks to all of the moderators for putting this place together. I'm looking forward to learning a lot here and hopefully participating in some great discussions too!

Please have a look at message 2014 above from Bryan which provides information and links to a number of useful rescources required to navigate around the site.

My name is Branimir and I am 23 (nearly 24) years old and live in Bulgaria. I love reading history books (both fiction and ones analyzing/summarizing facts) and that is why I am glad that I found this group.
I hold degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science and I work in a company, providing micropayments solutions.
To add up to my varied interests, I am a sworn gamer, preferring any story-developing game on whichever platform. When the muses come to visit me I love going out with my Nikon, taking pictures and enjoying the life ;)
Last but not least, I love hiking and that is why I am glad that I am in Bulgaria, as we have wonderful mountains here.
I guess that this is more than enough to get to know me :) I would be glad to be part of the group here.
Regards,
Branev

There are many discussion threads so please feel free to join in any that interest you. We look forward to your participation!

I'm new to GoodReads (only started up here yesterday) but love to read. I'm currently a college student studying history and French language, although I plan to transfer to a university that offers Middle Eastern studies and Arabic &/or Turkish for language.
I've only recently discovered a passion for history and am looking forward to sinking my teeth into more dense reading. :)
Next semester I'm taking courses on French revolutionary history, modern South Africa, and then a survey course on U.S. history from 1865 to present. It looks as though I'll have quite a bit of reading to do for those classes, but I'm going to try to shoehorn a few more books in by reading while waiting between classes. *grin*
I currently live in NE Ohio in a 1905 Victorian in desperate need of renovating (and in process thereof), with 7 cats, one miniature poodle, and two housemates (one of whom has two dogs). Thankfully, the house is huge!
I've read through the guidelines and read the post on mechanics as well. I'm looking forward to reading and discussing with you all!

'Aussie Rick': Well, we'll see about offerings, I'm only a baby historianlet so far. ;) Spent ten years in the School of Hard Knocks before getting back into college, so I'm only doing undergrad work right now. But my goal, at least at this point, is to become a college professor of something (what, I'm not positive of yet... so many choices!).

Good to see you join the group. I am sure you will have a great time discussing great books and great moments in history with the rest of the group.
Below are some links that will help you navigate the History Book Club and what our requirements are. It would be very helpful if you took the time to familiarise yourself with these:
