By the way, it is also nice when referencing an author to include the photo/link, even if you aren't mentioning a specific book.

I've read McCullough before, but the others look just as interesting. Thanks, Jim, for sharing some of your favorites.
Welcome to Jim and Shannon. We are glad to have you. Back from vacation folks and back in metro New York area.

Sorry to say that's one I didn't read but I loved his book "Batavia's Graveyard" and would heartily recommend it to anyone interested in a great historical account.

I am a former teacher. A long time ago I was a history major in college. I still enjoy learning about history. I like to read, however my job gets in the way some times. One topic I love to read about is WWI.
I look forward to learning from you and hopefully sharing things of interest to the group.
Jim

Nice to see you join the group. I am sure you will have a great time discussing great books and great moments in history with the rest of the group. I also enjoy reading about WW1 so hopefully I will see you at that thread sometime soon and we can discuss our favourite books :)
When referring to a book its requested that you use the add book/author feature to show the book and author like this:

Below are some links that will help you navigate the History Book Club and what our requirements are.
It would be very helpful if you took the time to familiarise yourself with these:
Policies & Practices
(this one is helpful for when you want to add book covers and author's photo's/links)
and:
Orientation & Roadmap

Hello Jeannette; thank you for sharing with us your background. I am happy for you that your parents were and are survivors. And I can understand your attraction to this subject area because of your experiences and those of your family. I am sorry about your mother's recent passing. You handled our no self promotion policy very well by not posting the name of your book and/or any other personal information.
Regarding the Holocaust, this is one situation where one wonders where was the decency or soul in any of the perpetrators. It is such a stain on humanity that this occurred and you have my sincere condolences.
Regarding the History Book Club, we are sincerely happy to have you with us. As you post more, we will honor you and your book in the author's thread. Thank you for joining us.

And a welcome to you too Stephen. Please take the opportunity to look around and get involved in any of the group's discussions. Also please take a look at our guidelines which Alisa cited for Carol.

I got the history degree and then retired from the Air Force with lots of experience in computers.
I worked in computers for one company for 15 years and retired again.
I formed my own company and then retired again.
I'm going to stay retired now.

I'm Nancy and I live in the SF Bay area. I'm an avid high tech entrepreneur with 7 successful startups under my belt and because of that, I'm certified as being crazy. Currently working in the mobile data services space.
I have an undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer and Electrical Engineering.
I love reading, especially historical fiction and biographies.
For hobbies beyond reading I am horse obsessed, a long-time trumpet player, teaching myself guitar and I'm always "learning" to speak French. Ma grand-mère était française.
I found you because I am re-reading a favorite, Irving Stone's "The Agony and the Ecstasy", did a google, and up popped your thread.
à toute à l'heure,
-Nancy
Well we are glad to have you Nancy. Check out message post 1594 which Alisa, one of our assisting mods posted, and that should give you some tips on our rules and guidelines which aren't that difficult to get used to.
We always when citing a book or author add the book cover, the author's photo when available and the author's link which the author's name in text.
For the book you mentioned, this is how it would look:

You are one busy lady and I am surprised you had time to look for us. I was in the SF Bay area just a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed the temperatures which were seasonally low. It was a relief from the weather we have had here on the East Coast.
Glad to have you,
Bentley

I have a PhD in Electrical Engineering and recently graduated with an MBA, but I would happily spend the rest of my life in a library studying history. I am especially interested in World War II, and biographies.
I am currently reading

Welcome to the group, I see you have the process for adding the book and author correct already, well done. I hope you have a good time here discussing your favourite books and great moments in history.
I also enjoy reading about WW2 so hopefully I'll see you soon in the threads covering that part of history and look forward to any recommendations you'd like to make in that area.
