I'm new and new to groups as I've recently just joined a couple. I love reading about history and I'm currently interested in the history of India and Indian culture. Feel free to suggest any books in that area.
I'm a photographer but I also have to have a real job to pay the bills. My dream job would be a Travel Photographer (well who wouldn't want to be one).
I'm Canadian, live in Vancouver with my two cats.
Looking forward to reading Novembers book....I'd post it but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Now I'm off to set up my new "History" bookshelf!

I am an author and military historian. I write about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and have published four books on the subject. I am eager to become a part of this club. I am hesitant to provide much more information as I have already been warned three times that no self-promotion is tolerated in this club.
Please reach out to me if you would like to know more.
Richard S. Lowry
Good Richard...perfect. However, as we surmise it was the goodreads software acting up.
For all authors, please no personal links to any urls, blogs, sites even on goodreads that are in some way connected to self promotion. If in doubt, just contact the moderator and they can advise. We have to be consistent with everyone.
Richard, we are delighted to have you here and please post on the threads themselves here in this group and you will get plenty of folks asking questions about the topic on the thread itself. We are all here to discuss the group selected books and the historical topics on the threads.
And I know you will get the hang of things very soon. You are doing great already.

I am rather new to Goodreads, but have been a long time lover of historical fiction. I am a voice teacher, retired professional singer and author. I live in upstate NY w/ my husband. We spend a great deal of time visiting family and grandkids around the country. Keeps us busy.
Although historical fiction is my first love, I have read all Jeff Shaara's books and going to tackle Team of Rivals soon.
Thanks,
Holly

Nice to see you join the group. I am sure you will have a great time discussing great books and great moments in history with the rest of the group.
When referring to a book its requested that you use the add book/author feature to show the book and author like this:

Below are some links that will help you navigate the History Book Club and what our requirements are.
It would be very helpful if you took the time to familiarise yourself with these:
Policies & Practices
(this one is helpful for when you want to add book covers and author's photo's/links)
and:
Orientation & Roadmap
Great intro Holly and we all realize you are just getting acclimated to the site.
Here is how we do citations for all authors and their books...we like to provide the links for all books and authors cited so that the powerful goodreads software can do its job.
Here is how your citations would look.
When you cite an author, we try to post the author's photo when available first and then the author's link (which is the author's name in text)
Jeff Shaara
When you cite a book, we always add the book cover, then the author's photo if available and then the author's link like below.
Doris Kearns Goodwin
This citation standard is part of the rules and guidelines. There is also a Mechanics of the Board thread which can give excruciating detailed instructions on how to do the above.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello Rhoda and welcome to the History Book Club.
Please make sure to take a look at our guidelines and rules:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
We have many different members from across the globe who have varying ideas on all sorts of things with contradictory views. What we try to have here is a space where everyone's views are accepted and respected even though they may be contrary to our own.
It is a good group where so far that has worked well.
I do admire you for having a three year old and such a span between that little one and his siblings.
I am sure you will have an interesting time here and we hope you enjoy your stay.

Rhoda,
The rules here at HBC do not allow me to promote my work in any way. I do have an author page here on goodreads. Simply click on my photograph to view my author page. If you befriend me, I can answer anything you would like to know outside HBC.
Regards,
Richard
