Welcome Elaine,

Thank you for following our guidelines. As you are aware we do not allow any self promotion.

But we will be happy to add you to the thread which the moderators promote on behalf of our author members.

I am late to the party in terms of welcoming you and I can see that my great assisting mods have beat me to it by already saying hello; and they have also provided you with some fine links to help you get to know us.

By all means, please jump right in to any of the upcoming discussions.

We are delighted to have you.

Bentley

Welcome Melinda,

We are delighted to have you join us. There are some great discussions going on...so jump right in. Please take a look at the links that Alisa so kindly posted for you in message 1358. This will help you get to know our guidelines as you are beginning to post.

We have some wonderful discussions that are already on going so please jump right in.

Elaine Cunningham (elainecunningham) Thanks for the welcome, Bentley. I had no intention of using this forum for self-promotion. I mentioned that I am a writer for the same reason that I mentioned I'm a former history teacher: In short introductions, people tend to self-identify by profession.

message 1304: by Brad (new)

Brad Mohr (bmohr) | 1 comments I'm Brad Mohr with a History/Zoology degree from the University of Arkansas back in 1975. I'm now retired from the U.S. Army and Department of Defense after 35 years working intelligence and special operations. Now splitting my time between Arkansas and Florida. I read almost exclusively histories - focusing lately on a lot of American history but also have read a lot of world history (still do). Can't seem to part with any hardbound history book so the collection just keeps expanding.

message 1305: by Alisa (new)

Alisa (mstaz) Brad, welcome. We look forward to discussing great books and moments in history with you. Please explore the threads and join in.

message 1306: by Bryan (last edited Jun 24, 2010 10:34AM) (new)

Bryan Craig Welcome, Brad. Glad you could join us and you have an interesting background.

You probably read Alisa's earlier message, but here it are highlights:

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

Take a few moments to read our policies:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...

and our guidelines:

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask us moderators. I look forward to your postings.

Yes and I appreciated that. I am especially cognizant of each new author who joins and we are delignted to have each and all. However, for every new join we try to point out the guidelines at the beginning to avoid any accidental issues down the road. As you can see our assisting mods post the policies and practices and orientation and roadmap for everyone.

Take care and enjoy the group...it is a good place.

Alisa (mstaz) Daisy, welcome! You are among many that share your love of history.

We do have a few important and easy to follow guidelines, one of them is the use of the add book/author feature whenever you reference a book. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

Bryan Craig Hi James:

I'm glad you found us!

message 1344: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Hi, I'm Gundula, and while I have a degree in German literature, history has always been my first love. I love both history and historical fiction, being especially partial to British and Canadian history (don't know nearly enough about US history, but I hope that will change). And, if I can figure out where I managed to hide my copy of Guns, Germs and Steel, I will definitely be joining the group read in September.

message 1345: by 'Aussie Rick' (new)

'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) Hi Gundula,

Nice to see you join the group. I am sure you will have a great time discussing great books and great moments in history with the rest of the group.

When referring to a book its requested that you use the add book/author feature to show the book and author like this:

message 1346: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Sorry, about that, I only noticed later that I had to add the cover image and the author (that will take some getting used to, but thanks for reminding me). Also, while I love to read, I am not very computer savvy, but I'm learning.

message 1347: by 'Aussie Rick' (new)

'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) Hi Gundula, don't worry too much about it, I had the same problem and it took me a little while to get it right :)
I'll be looking forward to chatting with you more about good books, have fun!

message 1348: by Alisa (last edited Jul 07, 2010 04:46PM) (new)

Alisa (mstaz) Gundula, welcome to the group. There is much here to explore and the group has no shortage of folks who like to discuss it all so you are in good company! The add book/author function is pretty easy once you get the hang of it but if you need help please ask. We look forward to your participation.
